Firefight commendations

Recently (as in within half an hour of writing this post), I had the desire to go back to Reach every so often and complete a few commendations in Firefight. I have some questions about them though.

What weapons count for small arms kills? Magnum and Plasma Pistol? Anything else?
Does the Magnum count for precision weapon kills too?
Does the Needler count for automatic weapon kills?
Does the Grenade Launcher count for Get Loud? And does it count for grenade kills?
Does the Plasma Launcher count for grenade kills? Or only for Get Loud?
Lastly, I think I know the answer to this, but can commendations for Firefight only be done in matchmade games?

To my knowledge :

  • only those two - yes - no idea - no, the weapon is heavy - only Matchmaking Firefight2X Score Attack is the best for most of them, kills with heavy weapons are better in Arcadefight for obvious reasons but for kills with pistols, 2X Score Attack might be a better choice, no random player to kill your target before you do and weapons dealing twice the usual damage (playing a round with a single weapon is absolutely possible if you have enough ammo) , still 120 enemies to kill on average (drop pods can raise your kill count beyond 130 at best) , Arcadefight can go beyond 250 kills.

EDIT : and being slow in Arcadefight = chances to not reach later rounds = less kills.

Awesome, thanks for the detailed reply

Pretty much how I increased the ‘kills with vehicles’ and ‘enemy vehicles destroyed’ commendations, turrets count as vehicles (both ways) and in that case Glacier is the best there is like 3 turrets for the player to use.

In 2X Score Attack most of the enemies between wave 1 and 2 are too weak to be killed by supercombine (they die before) , that’s how powerful the player is.

Ahh did not know that turrets counted as vehicles. That’s definitely going to help for next time.

For ‘enemy vehicles destroyed’ , the one behind the turret must be killed at the same time it is destroyed.

In 2X Score Attack you need to be careful when engaging an enemy vehicle, it’s not very hard to kill the driver (been a while since the last time but if I remember correctly a single ‘boarding punch’ in the back of a Wraith blow up the mortar) .

About yourself, watch out for enemy shots touching you, if you killed the said enemy the shot suddently take your damage value (overcharged shots one-shot your shields instead of removing one layer) .

More detail! Thanks for continuing to be so helpful.

If you’re having a hard time with your enemy vehicle destroyed commedation, Holdout and Installation 04 are great maps for getting progress towards that. There are mountable machine gun turrets easily within reach to dismount and shoot at Banshees when they spawn. Just keep an eye out for enemies spawning in sometimes as they can essentially flank you if you aren’t paying attention. This beats the alternative of attempting to destroy Wraiths on Unearthed or Beachhead which is a bit less practical and takes more planning and seizing the moment, or hoping that a Ghost is dropped off on Outpost (As there is a chance that this doesn’t happen).

Also, on a fun note, make sure that you’re ready to dodge a banshee as well as sometimes instead of firing back, they thrust right at you. In extremely rare cases, they will thrust away right into a death barrier or an incoming Phantom and end up causing their own demise. The Banshee AI Response to you shooting it in FIrefight can be unpredictable and funny. Also note that when a Banshee spawns in is unpredictable, so one might spawn in at a really bad time (Like in Arcadefight when Heretic Elites spawn in). Those moments hurt alot.

Turrets count as vehicle, that’s not a good idead to dismount one the A.I. can use (the one in Installation 04 is and quite dangerous if you are caught off guard, require a player to hang in the front of the said turret, the attack range is decent) .

The turret in Holdout directly after the door can be used by the A.I.

Banshees aren’t different from turrets most of the time, they tend to simply fly around being a completely harmless enemy until the player hang in specific locations where the Banshee should actually try to attack.

But they can shoot if you happen to be in the front of one, regardless of your own location.

The magnum DOES NOT count for precision weapon kills (use a designated marksman rifle, sniper rifle, needle rifle or focus rifle).

The needler DOES count for automatic weapon kills.

Both the grenade launcher & plasma launcher only count for heavy weapon kills, not grenade kills.

Needle Rifle for a bonus round, DMR for everything else when it’s not sniping time (Corvette is good if you have a guy at the enemy side while you stand at the opposite) .

For sniping it’s up to someone’s choice…

Sniper Rifle :

  • more powerful - can hit multiple targets in a single shot - damage vehicles easily - is in a loadout - headshot medal (and bonus points too)Focus Rifle :

  • better to kill a soft target after another (even better if the A.I. flinch) - misses aren’t costly - easier time to assist - can randomly get the kill if the target is also shot by another player - not too hard to use it like an assault rifle
