Firefight AND Spartan Ops in Halo 5

One of the biggest questions (or not, just one of the biggest I have) about Halo 5 is what we can expect to see other than the traditional Campaign and Matchmaking. I personally would like to see both Spartan Ops and Firefight reappear.

Firefight provides a replayable thing to do when you’re not in the mood for killing real players. It’s a fun survival mode, and perhaps with the inclusion of Prometheans and/or Flood, it could be better than ever.

However, I also enjoyed Spartan Ops. It gave me something to look forward to each week and while many didn’t like it, I did. It provided a new story and allowed me to kill enemies in locations other than those provided in the campaign.

Anyways, what would you all like to see? None of them? Just one? Or both? Or maybe even something new?

I would love for firefight to return. I could never really get into spartan ops because I felt like a majority of the early missions in it had no effect on the story.

That’s true, although I think episodes 6-10 were much better.

Gonna bump unnecessarily once. I’m just curious to see what people have to say about this.

I would like to see SO return, but it has to be done right. Episodes 6-10 were actually decent, so I hope that they can build off that.

I liked Firefight in ODST, but I didn’t really like it in Reach. I couldn’t put my finger on why I didn’t like it in Reach though. Spartan Ops was way too samey and repetitive to be enjoyable, couldn’t force my way through it.

Firefight, yes. It was a fantastic mode added in ODST and perfected in Reach. Spartan ‘play the same levels over and over again’ Ops can go die in a hole. Along with all of its God awful characters.

Yeah, I’m pretty sure one of the main issues was their “uncreativeness” when designing it. Same places, little to no character development… I still liked it for some reason, though. Perhaps if they made more than 7 or 8 locations Spartan Ops could actually make an impact on the community.

I posted this a few days ago:

I feel like both Spartan Ops and Firefight would be awesome! However I feel like they wont. But bare with me what if they brought back firefight, and made each level be a story all its own, keep the area style play and make you play as Marines ODST’s or Spartans and each has a separate storyline. You could also okay each level without the storyline. ODST story could be like four levels defending Acadia the Spartans could be four levels defending Reach and the Marines could be four levels dropping on installation 4! You could Also unlock armor and customize one of each and for sandbox you can choose waves in free play not in firefight campaign. Feels like it would be frigging sweet.

Personally I think they should combine them. Spartan-Ops was meant to be a second campaign, and one of the best parts of campaign is the unique missions and battlegrounds which S-ops lacked off. Most of the levels tried to mimick the fun “hordes of enemies” feeling that firefight had without the best part of the fun arcade feeling. I propose basically bring back firefight with some unique battlegrounds and maybe a few campaign locations, then every week or even every just every month give us the CGI episodes with story driven firefight games and maybe even some new maps. I think this would take the best of both modes!

It seems like both of you have the same ideas. A combined firefight would be genius. It could be a lot like GoW 3’s Horde mode. Survival, but with added objectives, fortifications, and map-specific elements. That would be great. Plus, a new map addition every now and then… sweet.

I would really just like to see highly customize-able firefight.

Firefight would be a plus to have in Halo 5
