Firefight 3.0 Mega Thread

Hello everyone, I want to list off some ideas of what I would like to see from a new firefight if it was included.

Some background on firefight: Firefight has been apart of the Halo series since Halo 3: ODST. Firefight was introduced as a new game mode with you and three of your friends or A.I. depending on if you had friends. Your goal was to stay alive as long as possible and t rack up as much points as you could. This same experience was later brought to Halo: Reach with a few modifications as new enemies and armor abilities. Plus you were a spartan and not an ODST.

1. Boss Waves

I don’t know how many of you have played Gears of War 3 but it featured a really good firefight mode called Horde mode. It had similarities to Firefight but one feature stood out above the rest. every tenth round/wave there would be a boss that would spawn and it was difficult and fun. The boss would change every 10 rounds which would make it even more difficult.

I would like to see this feature in the next Firefight than anything else. Sure there are some traits of it on the Halo: Reach Firefight with showing hunters and Brute Chieftains, but it wasn’t much of a struggle.

2. Survival Aspect
I felt like Halo: Reach’s Firefight was lacking this, i felt overpowered against everything that came way and smashed through it like none other. In ODST I got a different feel though, like I was fighting for my and the life of my teammates. I hope the next Halo title adopts the same aspect of survival and not make it like a zombie game but more of a battle for your life.

3. A.I.
I hate how when you spawn the A.I. already knows exactly where you are and unleashes their full arsenal against you. I want a smart A.I. system but advanced to know its visual range and sensory range. I also think it would be cool to see how in each encounter with a group with different species how they would react to killing you in a unique way and not just pew pew pew.

4. Maps
I loved some of the Halo: ODST maps like Lost Platoon and Lat Exit. They were some of the most unique maps I ever played and was very fun. I think the next Halo title should make unique maps that visit older places in the Halo series like maybe Halo 2 Tsavo Highway or Halo 4 Requiem level. Maybe even new experiences!

5. Vehicles
In ODST it was pretty heavy on some vehicles, I liked how on Lost Platoon there would be two wraiths and some choppers that were used as scout vehicles. I would always be the guy with two of my friends in a warthog drifting corners with my passenger with the splaser and the guy on the back that can’t aim. I hope to see the return of vehicles in Firefight, Reach had a lack besides the mining map for DLC… I would also like vehicles to be rewarded kind of like ordance, choose from three and kill waves.

Well that’s all I could think of, what do you guys want to see from the next Firefight?Does the purple help you read or is it just annoying? Studies show reading purple text soothes you and makes reading text more calm.

Bosses. I felt the Hammer Chieftains in ODST were suitable bosses since you couldn’t sprint or fly away with a jetpack. Still, a range of different bosses would definitely make firefight more exciting.

Survival Aspect. Totally agree with you there! The infinite ammo crates and armour abilities in Reach killed it for me.

A.I. God I would also love A.I that didn’t know exactly where you were at all times. If they did that then at least there’d be a stealth aspect in firefight for those who prefer to be sneaky.

Maps. While I preferred the maps from ODST, I hated how all the non-DLC firefight maps were cut from the campaign for both games. I completely agree that they should have unique maps or at least more unique maps than those used in campaign.

Vehicles. I’d also like to see vehicles dropped in as some kind of reward. I liked how on Installation 00 the Pelican dropped off a Warthog with a marine every so often, but something more extensive would be nice.

As for an idea of my own, I wouldn’t mind the addition of friendly A.I like the ODSTs on Installation 00. However, I’d prefer it if they actually respawned via a pelican and actually followed you around.

Basically I agree with everything you said. As for the purple text, it was different in a good way!

I would like to see stuff like a scarab or two! Maybe a flood infected hunter, or brute chieftain! Maybe even add random events on a map, like lets say that a super carrier is sitting above your location and you and your teams job is to ready a mac cannon to take it down.

Since you mentioned GOW3 you know how every 3 (think it changed to 4) waves you get a bonus objective how about they do that like assassinate the enemy leader on the battlefield, defend this generator that has suddenly went out of lock down, get this medal so. Any times etc. and this would reward you with a vehicle drop, and AI backup drop or a weapon drop

Scarab boss wave. That is #1 on my list.

Like these ideas, but since I want AAs to stay, counter jetpack with enemies that will jump or jetpack up to grab you and bring you down. Therefore jetpack is used for movement and positioning rather than convenient escape.

I also want to see the locust make an appearance as well as a boss. It would be awesome to fight one of those things :D.

Hopefully, they aren’t sitting ducks like they are in previous Halos.

How about having maps the size of New Mombasa, with good indoor and outdoor segments the players can be in, and the AI spawns enemies made to handle different situations that the players put themselves in. For instance, the players have entranched themselves indoors with closer quarter weapons, the enemies spawned are good against that sort of behaviour. A player decides to snipe outdoors, a wraith spawns that start raining plasma mortars upon the sniper, and so on.

Mix it up with personal ordnance, where it’d actually make sense. Have it stack so you can buy weapons, AI reinforcements, vehicles, cover and so on, all cost different amounts of Personal Ordnance points and all needing special locations to be called down.

Further mix it up with different factions, Flood, Covenant and Prometheans, all customisable to fight each other, ally each other so you could have different teams.

Many possibilities.

This is what I want from survival game modes.

Maybe for a different mode of firefight, that would be cool.

That would be one of the best firefight maps ever. It would need have a couple bunkers (think Halo ODST campaign hidden weapon staches) around the area though.

An 8 player firefight would be cool. Have two teams of 4 players separated and try to regroup. For the New Mombassa idea we should see the buildings full of infantry and have the main roads full of wraiths.

I don’t want to have to engage every enemy all at once I just want to be able to survive for as long as possible and that would include sneaking around wraiths. Ordinance such as ammo and power weapons should drop on the roofs of random building so you would be constantly on the move.

Once you do regroup you can either choose to hold out in a location or move around. If you choose to hold out on an area your stuck with that choice because their is no way in hell they can leave unit the round is over. Underground tunnels into the sewer would provide a quick route in between the buildings if you don’t get lost. Their would be A LOT of jackals in the sewers though :slight_smile:

Once in a while a scarab could drop down and you can either take cover from it in buildings or get on the rooftops and tops and drop down on it like in halo 2. Once you destroy it though your going to be separated from your team and stuck out in the main streets and you would have to fight your way back.

Much later on if your still alive you can get a gauss warthog and stay alive by driving around. Your probably going to find that a lot if the streets are blocked by rubble and you might ind yourself cornered. Maybe for the 8 player firefight you can get a troop transport warthog :))

New Mombassa will also have settings for the time of day and weather. It would be awesome to play in the middle of the night during a thunderstorm. It would be pitch black but the lightning will allow you to see wraiths and enemy troops in the distance for a split second.

I would really like more factions in FireFight. Instead of just UNSC vs. Covenant, give us Flood and Promethean forces as well.

Variety is the spice of life!

I’d like to see friendly AI as well (much like Installation 04).

Their AI should be improved all around (no more driving off cliffs).

Include a few different types (Marines, ODSTs, Spartans, etc).

They should have their own traits menu when using custom skulls.

Their respawn settings should be changeable (i.e. respawn on timer, on wave, on round, on set, never).

All of my yes.

I just played through Gravemind in Halo 2 and there is so much unused potential when looking around High Charity outside the map. Not to mention you could have Flood Juggernaut boss fights, maybe even a fight with Gravemind.

If this happened I would spend most of my time yelling at my friends to play Halo Floodfight with me.
