This is going to be a short one cause 343 and the contributers of the new maps have made it so easy to complete this playlist and move on to hooking up other playlist.
Remove the evade infection gametype, uncaged, asylum and arena zealot from the voting hopper and replace those with all alpha zombies on the new maps, keep some of the old favorites like sword base so the tunnel guys can get their fix every once in ahwile and walk away, we will be just fine in the living dead playlist until the release of Halo 4.
It shouldn’t be a playlist at all…
> It shouldn’t be a playlist at all…
Come now sir, it was very popular in Halo 3, why would a developer not include it as a dedicated playlist in the next installment?
> It shouldn’t be a playlist at all…
Nice opinion…
Here’s a couple of little facts for you:
- it IS a playlist.
- it is a POPULATED playlist.
Now… if you don’t like it, there are plenty of other playlists out there. Find one.
Infection can be fun other times it can be irritating.

The general consensus of EVERY GAME by varying opinions.
> Infection can be fun other times it can be irritating.
I play often and rarely see it voted in on purpose, but it is a harder varient than alpha, something now represented in the new maps.
In my opinion, alpha zombies is vastly more popular(95% maybe more prefer) and that having the new maps and some old favorites, would allow for a more consistent playlist playtype with sprint as the only AA. Also it would allow for more of the new maps to be showcased, they are all worth playing and it just seems that infection is just a waste of space in the voting hopper.
> Remove the evade infection gametype, uncaged, asylum and arena zealot from the voting hopper
Yes, yes, yes and YES.
As much as I’d like it to happen, I don’t think it will. Only a couple days since the update, and people vote for the default maps all the time. I’ve even had Condemned/Uplink come up a few times (finally DLC maps are showing more), voted down for Sword Base or Uncaged.
I can only speak for myself and WebFootJr on this. The reason we vote for Alpha Zombies over Infection is simple: its easier to shoot runners than evaders. As a zombie we would much rather have evade over sprint. Uncaged would be the sole exception.
I’d be willing to bet that we are not alone in that either.
How about Loadouts for Zombies… Pick Sprint or Evade?
Yes it is my opinion
The reason its populated is because its easy to get kills, this leads to bad kids playing, and people going in to just boost k/d. In halo 3 it was a double exp weekend so the k/d boosting wasn’t a problem.
Infection and other game modes (Grifball) need to go back to being double exp weekends rather then playlists.

I like how stupid you are. Do you care about others stats?

I had that happen on the first day =( but people are starting to become more aware of the new maps, this weekend and the next will give us a good indication of response. A few times I have seen old maps played over the new, which is fine, people like the old stuff too.
Maybe next TU, but 343 will most likely turn their attention (as they should) to other playlist that need attention. Arena and invasion could use some new maps, frankly every playlist would benefit from new maps.

Its not like that on the new maps, you most likely know this. See if you can get a +20 kill game on a new map.

Those were and are very popular playtypes, I am sorry that having a living dead and griftball playlist that you may enjoy at your leisure is troubling to you, just close your eyes and pretend LD is not one of the most popular playlist, and griftball holds their own too, just as much as MLG.
swap “asylum” with “sword base” and you have yourself a deal.
You see, you say “let the tunnel campers get their fix every once in a while” and it sounds good, but as long as it is there, campers will still vote for it.
we really need CUSTOM maps. not more creepy versions of the current ones.
Remove Infection and only keep alpha zombies. I think they should also have a throwback zombies with no AA and with Halo 3 movement speed

As it stands now K/d is a reasonably good, not perfect but decent way to judge how a person is going play before game. So in that aspect yes I do care about other peoples stats.

I have played the new maps and from what I’ve seen yes these maps are a bit harder to camp, but the fact remains that it is a playlist that makes stats boosting ridiculously easy.

Honestly if I never played the old maps again, I would not care, but some like it.
My understanding is because of the amount of guest that are allowed when people play LD, omly certain maps are availible.

You seem to be under the mistaken impression that this issue is inherent to Infection.
If every single last -Yoink!- one of the default maps are removed, and if the community-made variants are tweaked – and I guarantee at least one of the authors will improve their map as a result of feedback, though I don’t know if 343 will update the playlist with new versions – then the problem will be massively reduced.
If, after that, the playlist is lowered to local-max 2, and adequate Infection-oriented maps built from the group up are added, the problem will be almost entirely solved.
In fact, this set of fixes (very similar to those listed in Plunder’s OP) would have a very high chance of solving the problem entirely:
-
Disable Betrayal Booting and Friendly Fire in all game variants in the playlist.
-
Remove Infection. Keep only Alpha Zombies. Consider testing different Havens settings (based on Alphas) from time to time.
-
Remove every single default map and never put them back.
-
When the map authors update their maps, implement the new versions ASAP after a quick test.
-
Lower the playlist to 2 local max.
-
Add Infection maps built from the ground up on maps with the Forge World palette or a comparable one. Quality can vary even more with from-scratch maps than with those based on other templates, so if a mapmaker has not tested their map for at least a month, do not even consider its implementation.
If a sufficiently-high standard of quality were used when selecting maps, Phyre, then do you think that the playlist would still be prone to exploitation and boosting after the above fixes?
Thank you for the well thought out post.
While I relise that stat boosting does not only happen in infection, it still happens a lot. Needs to be fixed in grifball among other playlists. With the changes your suggesting it would go back to being an enjoyable game mode where people don’t slaughter the hordes of iron kids charging at them.
Tho my opinion still stands game modes like infection don’t belong as a playlist they belong as double exp weekends or some varient on them.
