After much time lurking in the forums and grinding schoolwork for my college courses, I must admit I am quite excited to finally participate in a flight. It’s been a long time coming and honestly, I did so much during my long break from the Halo franchise that I almost can’t believe I’m ending up back at the game which sparked my love for FPS and Tactical shooter games. All of this excitement leaves me with no choice but to recap some general things I did over the past couple of years while waiting for a Halo game I believed would be worth my hours.
-Ghost Recon: Wildlands. I took down the entire cartel, completely upgraded the rebel support, found every gun, found every document, surveyed the entire map, reached max level. I also had some very frustrating playthroughs of previous missions with my friends: they went something like this: one friend flies us in by helicopter and after pretending to be professionals, our sneaky approach to the cartel base is usually cut short by me trying to snipe a guy and missing gis head by an inch. At which point my friends and I are driving hastily in some stolen jeep while the entirety of Bolivia fires at us with most of the conversation centered around how we could have done better. Usually one of my friends would say something like “Titan, what the -Yoink-, mate. That was an easay shawt.” And I normally be like “Tom, shut up, you couldn’t hit a cartel gunman if he was strapped to a lawn chair and had a head the size of a hot air baloon.” And this would go on for quite some time as we tried to lose our pursuers and restart the mission. Anyway, you get the idea. Typical Ghost Recom experience of driving around for half an hour trying to get away from the Unidad and Cartel.
Battlefield V: I actually was part of a clan on here for some time and reached rank 62 or so after playing so much. Best known for only playing as the medic, I ruthlessly mowed people down using one of the game’s most underperforming guns: the Sten. Which, in BFV, only fires about 520 RPM. Often times we played operations and just charged headlong into the firefight (a tactic I would later dispute and not have much luck replacing.)
Counter-Strike Global Offensive: I played about 400+ hours of Counter-strike and until my CS stopped working properly, I played this game everyday for its simplicity and (mostly) chill community. CS was my vacation spot while I waited for a new Halo to be developed.
And so after I had played these and like 40 other games to my heart’s content, before I knew it, college was nearly over. So here I am in the last semester of college getting ready to play my first days of Halo Infinite. I remember when I used to play Halo Reach non-stop everyday. I played until I could go on a kill frenzy with just a DMR. Then I played until I could basically dodge people’s bullets, jump over them, and assassinate them. Finished the campaign on legendary and reached Reclaimer while easily stacking up like 4 million credits. Not to count the forge maps I created specifically for clan battles and meetings and training. I was just so involved with Halo that I never played any other games. I played Combat Evolved on the original Xbox when I was 10 and I’ve been a hardcore spartan ever since. I’ve watched Forward Unto Dawn and all the stories from Halo Legends with “Prototype” being my favorite because if you think about it, although Spartans are augmented, they are still human to an extent; just ordinary men and women doing extraordinary things for humanity. All of this is to drive a simple point: some people want specific stuff in Halo, but me? I’m just happy to be playing a Halo game after such a long time. Granted, I could always download MCC or Halo 5, but I’m most interested in playing the newest additions to the franchise so I can see what the future has in store. I’m just happy to be here. Halo is basically the game that raised me and I don’t regret that statement even if it is a bit cringe. I’m looking forward to just playing Halo and making the most of the flights and all that. So if you’re in-game this weekend be on the lookout for a dude named Trisonix. I played some fast games while I was away, so I’m excited to fight against the other Spartans around here and see who comes out on top. And of course, at the end of the day, it’s all about sportsmanship and enjoying the game.
But enough rambling. I’ll see you on the battlefield, Fellow Spartans! Wishing you all the best these two weekends.
Cheers! To a new Halo and a new decade of gaming!
Let’s finish this flight (this is quite possibly my worst Halo pun of all time, but -Yoink- it, I’ll leave it here at the end anyway lol).
