Finally completed Halo Infinite Campaign - my 2 STARS (out of five) review

I’m 40 and also former Army, 11C. Same sorts of interest in Sci-Fi and Fantasy.
I enjoyed a lot of the lore stuff in Infinite like John’s code word too.
Still haven’t finished the campaign but have enjoyed a lot of it so far. There have been a lot of boring parts though, mostly the open world aspect. There just isn’t as much going on as I was hoping for. I found myself rolling my eyes at some of the interactions between characters but there were also plenty of nice moments.
Not sure where I’d place this campaign overall but I don’t see it displacing CE or Reach for me.

Sse that’s just it man, you claim because some might think Infinites campaign was great, that they gotta be a YouTuber. I’m a YouTuber myself, but I’m not counting on Infinites campaign to be push any revenue for me. Actually though I think people do look at Infinites campaign and can call it great, why? It’s just an opinion dude. They don’t gotta be YouTubers to see that.

It’s a lazy game to you, that’s your opinion and that’s your problem. You’re very opinionated on Infinites campaign and it doesn’t work like that. I genuinely think Infinites story was solid, and the open world was great. The only collectables that aren’t on the map are the audio logs and the spartan cores being on the map are no big deal. Still you have to search for them because the game doesn’t tell you where they are. I can tell you how long I actually spent looking for the spartan cores when I actually came to the area on the map where they were.

It might be a 2/10 for you but it’s a 10/10 for me and I’ve played a lot of RPGs and open world games.

It depends on what you choose to play with. Any normal weapon that is available in any mission in CE you can reliably play with the entire mission once you find it, with the exception of the needler (or obviously plasma ones which you are forced to cycle) but I never play with those primarily, and other than weapon drops, the needler only has actual ammo in one mission I believe, it is still a pretty common drop though.
I think you are partly right, but I very much doubt in a game where you can carry 660 rounds the AR the sole purpose of 2 weapons was to make you cycle and scavenge. CE started it all.
Each game needs to be evaluated individually as they have changed ammo capacity and damage each game, and especially with ammo the trend has been less and less.
I always assumed 2 weapons was just for a touch of realism and to stand apart from other shooters as well. Multilayered decision.

cause devs are dumb and/or don’t care about lore what a missed opportunity

Yeah considering this was the game to represent MS’ new flagship console… slipstream engine a bit lacking for that mantle of responsibility.

I feel you. I also wanted to write some review and include everything that I felt war missing, wrong or bad. Yeah sure some things were okay or good.
I stopped after like a page of just keywords. Didn’t seem worth my time.

Agreed. In every 343 game I feel like I’m running around with my head cut off just looking for guns and ammo. I just replayed Reach and ODST this week, and it was never an issue.

Disagree, felt there was quite a bit that happened (especially in the character department). But to each their own.

The campaign is impactful enough for my liking, should try legendary out that’s hard enough and loved every bit of it

I rarely use the AR in CE except the first room with the popcorn floods. And I can’t believe youre trying to re-invent a reason for the 2 weapon system. It adds a layer of strategy where you have to scavenge ammo and swap weapons. But who cares they wont change the game. The people who enjoy grindy hand holdy games win, Halo is no longer the same kind of game and lots of “Halo fans” dont see a problem. You win. You can enjoy a hand holdy trip to the candy store while the fans that made this franchise famous in the first place keep waiting for a game that we enjoy.

Actually the campaign is more based on the books where master chiefs emotions are concerned and other things so I’ve heard anyways

Heroic was boring and too much of a grind. The gameplay is too unlike Halo and too much like a weird RPG or Japanese game with all the ability spamming ya need to do to survive. No thanks for Legendary.

Not even a Scarab in the game. Some of you guys should replay Halo 3. Hell more events happen in ODSTs campaign and it’s like an hour long.

And again, what would stop an Armiger from utilizing non-Forerunner weapons in a new configuration? Especially considering the shock rifle does a type of damage that the Sentinel Beam and Heatwave do not - and behaves in a way that hardlight does not.

Halo Infinite had less romance - i.e. a “love story” - than Halo 3: ODST. Just for comparison. The story that we have in Infinite was not quite a “love story”, and more a story of loss and betrayal, self-blame and reserved distrust of AI, and teamwork. The “love story” of John-117 and Cortana is not one of romance, but efficiency. Protecting each other. And in the end, it became a new beginning, and learning from Cortana’s mistakes.

So you’re pretty much saying you’re a Bungie fanboy, is that right? The “fans” that made this franchise famous in the first place are still here dude. But because 343 has a sketchy track record, you’re using that as the excuse for your statement pretty much.

Face it man, Bungie no longer works on Halo, and any other studio that you want to take up the franchise, I guarantee it won’t be like Halo at all.

Nah that’s not what I said. You should avoid the phrase “so you’re saying” it usually comes before a bunch of fluff you just made up for the sake of your own argument. 343 have a sketchy track record full stop. I think I gave Infinite a fair chance.

Other companys can take on major game franchises and stay faithful to the fans. Gears of War. DOOM. There’s no excuse for some of the oversights 343 makes they are so careless with Halo. And very very slow to fix their mistakes.

I did fine the pilot to be annoying… till I found out he was a Civi who grabbed what he could and ran for it. His squirliness made sense then.

I find The Weapons potential Eye Rolling lines to also make sense when you get the whole picture. I find her… Youth and Naivety to be… endearing and kinda cute.

John was perfect level of Badass and knowing those around him, looking to him for solidarity and leadership, arn’t Spartans. Just people; Scared, Broken, Beaten, Lost. He is finding his humanity again.

At the end, Its, story wise, Tied with CE and Reach for me. I literally wanted to cry at the end. The same way I did at/for Lone Survivor. I had to sit in the theater and just decompress for a while after that. I felt the same, just to a lesser extent at the end of Infinite.

Reach is like Lone Survivor. For me.
Infinite Is Closure for John and Cortana. And us.
CE is the opening of the Odyssey.

Actually man, that IS what you said, because you pretty much told the person you just replied to that they aren’t a real “Halo fan” because they accept what 343 is doing to Halo. It’s not a bunch of fluff dude and I’m not making up anything. When you make statements like the one I just quoted and then try and tell me that’s not what you meant.

Also you said this earlier in a reply.

And you gave Infinite a chance, really? Comparing it to a genre its not even remotely associated with? Right…

I never said anyone wasnt a Halo fan, stop making stuff up. Some of us just bought and played the original games and we want more of that… I liked Halo because it had a lot of quirks that other games don’t… But not anymore. Now Halo shares so much in common with generic dumbed down games. It’s a lazy open world. I can’t believe there are people who can look at any of the previous Halo games and not notice that Infinite is really lacking a lot of what makes Halo, Halo… but some people just like easy games. The main campaign should have been a bonus mode, the Bandana Skull is a joke, you barely even need that skull.

I played the whole campaign minus the collectibles ( i did all the assassinations). And I listed some positives in my original post. You seem like you’re just being irrational due to anger.

Honestly, legendary is actually pretty easy. I’m about 70% completed without any spartan corr upgrades applied (except the first grapple upgrade). Even with that, I’m finding this one is easier than heroic on some halo games IMO. You can 2 burst the regular brutes with a BR. Grunts/jackels are 1SK to the head. The plasma rifle melts elite shields, and you can take most engagements from very far. Some of the boss battles are difficult but after a couple deaths and using the nearby weapons, you can usually kill them pretty easily. I certainly struggled much more completing legendary in every other halo game.

I sincerely hope that when coop is added, the difficulty will be much higher without having to resort to skulls.

Although I definitely agree with something someone else said that this is the first legendary that is way more on the fun side of the spectrum instead of chore.
