In each of the previous Halo games the last mission asides from great cutscenes and dialogue, has featured a wide variety of playstyles with a final ‘challenege’ below is a refresher of how the previous games have concluded:
HCE/A: conventional combat, ‘puzzle’ (engine cores), warthog run, timed
H2/A: Vehicle combat, conventional combat, aerial combat, boss battle
H3: conventional combat, hold position, boss battle, warthog run
Halo Wars: time limit to complete ‘puzzle’
H3:ODST: conventional combat, vehicle combat, hold position
REACH: conventional combat, hold position, MAC turret
(epilogue is hold position on ‘lone wolf’)
H4: Broadsword run, conventional combat, quick time event boss
SA: hold position, boss battle (DLC: hold position, timed objective)
SS: hold position, conventional combat, defend the hornet
Enemy types:
HCE/A: Flood, Covenant, Sentinels
H2/A: Brutes and Covenant loyalists TARTARUS (brute boss)
H3: Flood, Sentinels 343 GUILTY SPARK (forerunner boss)
Halo Wars: Covenant, Flood, Sentinels
H3:ODST: Covenant
REACH: Covenant CRUISER (ship must be taken out with MAC)
H4: Prometheans, DIDACT (Promethean boss)
SA: Covenant, MERG VOL (elite boss) / Covenant + Forerunner Focus Turrets
SS: Prometheans, Covenant
What did you feel was the best combination of objective types and enemies? Personally I felt Halo CE had the most hectic and ‘organic’ feel to it- no contrived sequences- but all of the games had pretty memorable climaxes. I know it wouldn’t really work for halo, but the only type of finale that hasn’t been tried would be the ‘extended QTE’ cinematic similar to how ‘Ryse: Son of Rome’ ends. Although this would just be a more cinematic version of the ‘lone wolf’ sequence in Reach. If we face just one enemy faction, I hope it would feature all enemy types and vehicles.
boss battles sound always good on the paper, but they’re very difficult to implement right into FPS games.
i don’t think i’d like a boss battle like in H2 with tartarus. it was kinda boring since he was nothing more than just a bullet sponge.
so yeah, i wouldn’t like a boss battle just for the coolnes.
it should be a decent challenge, not just like, shooting and going for cover and repeating this process again and again and again until the so called “boss” is dead.

DooM would like to have a word with you on that one.
Start with a gigantic space battle, then the infinity crashing, surviving on the crashed infinity(hold position) massive vehicle battle, conventional combat, a puzzle type scenario, then a boss battle without quick time events
to say “Prometheans” instead of “Forerunners”? I know I’m being nitpicky, but I actually find your OP really good and I don’t want to see it spoiled by a tiny bit of misinformation.
A boss battle that isn’t a mindless bullet waster. I want it to be on the Gaurdian, like we have to take it down and you need to use the different Spartan abilities to take it down. Clamber, thrusters, sprint and sliding for a parkour section and then eventually parts were you have to ground pound or Spartan charge into armor or so thing to reveal a shield you have to shoot. And the entire time there would be other enemies.
If there’s going to be an escape situation, I’d like to see it More so mid-mission than anything. The ending doesn’t have to be a boss, or a frantic escape of any kind. I’m just suddenly worried it will be a cliffhanger ending. Halo 2 you traumatized me.

It’s probably going to be a cliffhanger 343 said something about the ending which went something like…“the end, or is it”

Fixed. suffered from early morning syndrome, thanks for correcting me.

I personally really liked Spartan Assault. It had Halo Wars units in it, had some pretty memorable moments, and made me like the Spartan IV’s better than Spartan Ops, Initiation or Escalation (up to that point) had.

I know, I know. I have yet to finish it myself- so lookied up the final mission on halopedia, only to have it be the most incomplete page ever. Now i’m home, I have educated myself through the miracle of youtube, and amended the OP accordingly.
Its great to see all your ideas, all very good ideas about the parkouring. Could really add some sweet escape action with those abilities.
