Other than a vehicle run, what would you want the final campaign mission to contain in infinite?
A (big) battle with some of your favourite characters against banished armies, the created or flood?
A (longer than usual) boss fight against a buffed up/special banished scarab?
Siege into a halo ring control room controlled by banished (and/or flood)?
Or something else?
I would love to see a Bro-Hammer rescue mission. Maybe the Banished kidnapped Bro-Hammer and plan to use him to threaten the humans. Threaten them that they’ll fire the ring using Bro-Hammer, or something like that, and Chief is sent in to stop the key from turning. Maybe one of the Banished leaders is a closeted Covenant believer, and decides to fire the ring for that reason.
Ultimate scarab fight, UNSC last stand, MC is the turning point for the battle, and the battle is a mission itself

I’m actually thinking the final mission of the campaign is going to be a much slower affair gameplay-wise but with absolutely huge narrative impact I’d expect the penultimate mission to be a much bigger set piece battle to break through to the control room.
I’d then expect the final mission to be more of an exploration of the control room’s structure and area itself. I’m imagaining the scene from the trailer with the Cortana voice-over (and the big battle preceding that will have been responsible for a guardian’s arrival potentially).
I expect the follow-up campaign expansion to then pick-up with something fairly major
I want a mission where control doesn’t get taken away from the player. That means no QTEs whatsoever! H4 and H5’s endings would have been so much more fun if I didn’t have to sit there with my controller off to the side. H5 was especially bad because I had no idea whether or not my inputs were even doing anything. Dramatic endings, terrible gameplay choices. Other than that, I would be content with a boss battle, large battle, or a driving segment. For the sake of tradition and pure epicness, I’m a bit more partial to a driving sequence.

Cannot agree with this enough. QTEs may as well be cutscenes
If I was to have a final mission that’s not a vehicle run. It would have to be something similar to Halo Wars 2 where you have to fight waves of enemies and even have optional objectives that gives you access to bonus weapons. Especially if you can use vehicles that are typically not in a Halo campaign, imagine you’re trying to protect the Infinity or a similar ship from being destroyed similar to the Pillar of Autumn that has critical information or a weapon power enough to stop a Guardian? You start out on the ground using regular weapons then as it gets harder reinforcements and allies drop in to help you, you lose control of portion of the ground and now you have to use a tank to defend or maybe a Blisterback to hold them, and then finally take the Battle to Space using a Super MAC or the Infinity guns to make sure you can make a clean getaway? Something you know?
I would like to see mulit-faction fighting. As iconic as the hog run in The Maw was, the coolest part about that level for me was the 4-way faction fighting. You would sneak through a hallway and turn a corner only to find yourself in a free for all against the flood, sentinels, and covenant. Unlike the Maw, please don’t make it a corridor level or mostly corridor level. Halo is at its best when we have most of the sandbox and multiple approaches at our disposal. Also, no QTE’s. If you can’t convey a scene through normal gameplay, make it a cutscene.
I would like to see something reminiscent of H2’s final battle.
Imagine this: A huge battle between remnant UNSC forces and The Banished, when you and your allies finally beat back The Banished you go in to a control room similar to the one in H2’s final battle. (minus the big beam in the middle of the arena) From there you must face Atriox, who is furious that he has lost to the likes of a human, you must battle him and some of his cronies and stop him from activating a freshly built ring. You are then forced to make a choice, allow him to flee with his last remaining forces and banish him from the ark, or kill him and put an end to The Banished.
I definitely want to go out with a bang. Infinite is going to be the spiritual reboot of the franchise so I suspect that there will be a warthog run at the end, but with a twist.
Maybe the final level will have you facing like 10 hunters at once while dealing with a horde of your run of the mill covenant/banished enemies; a determined master chief fighting his way to Escheraum
Obviously it would be choosing who John gets to finalize his romance plot with and retire from action at the end of the story :
- Kelly - Geeky ODST girl - Sangehilian girl who is the “Michelle Rodriguez” type
Boss battle. a legit, boss battle. Before the boss battle, you turn the tide of a mass scale battle. (who knows what infinites campaign is like except the devs). We might be stranded with bro-hammer til the final mission and UNSC forces arrive and we just go to town.
My greatest hope is it ends with a 1-on-1 duel with Escharum (Blow Me Away playing for greater epicness), with MC then making one final run to Bro-Hammer’s Pelican as the whole level collapses around him. I could see no better end to Escharum than that.
Of course, that’s probably not what’s going to happen, but a man can dream.
Hopefully a 1v1 vs Escharum. With the game ending having a huge narrative impact for the future (return of the Flood)?
If 343 sticks to the lore of zeta halo, id love to see us fight off against a LEGIT boss battle
The boss battles in previous halos are kinda underwhelming in my opinion. ex. shooting the oracle in Halo 3 with a spartan laser a couple times or basically -yoink- slapping didact a couple times till you que a cinematic to put a bomb on him isnt really what i had in mind when you compare it to games like Gears of War / God of War / Dark souls / etc.
Just want a challenge at the end.
Mendicant Bias and the primordial have huge ties to zeta halo. It could be possible we end up seeing/teaming/or HOPEFULLY fighting these dudes in some form. Again i could be wrong i havent read too much into it as I’d like too so please fill me in if im wrong.
Look, I know this sounds dumb, but hear me out.
In the mission prior to the final mission, I think in a cutscene Flood combat and infection forms should breach into where you’re at and infect multiple Banished members and you escape out with yourself intact, with Cortana achieved and you progress the final mission on an infected part of Installation 07. You encounter a Flood-infected Scarab and Hunters, you defeat the hunters and board the Scarab with Flood ambushing you. Of course, since you are Mister Johnathan One Hundred Seventeen, you destroy it. You enter a room with Escharum in a “Playable-cutscene” or a normal cutscene, you battle Escharum and win just like the lucky spartan you are. Then… A version of One FInal Effort or that amazing Halo theme we saw in the trailer plays, the Warthog Run begins…

Escharum is going to be the toughest fight for Chief yet with the way they’re building him up to be. Regardless, the boss fights, all of them, will need to be challenging and unique to make them all memorable and respectable.
ready for this?
Master Chief wins. The banished are defeated, Zeta halo is in self destruct. Before it’s destruction, MC finds cortana, and discovers she’s remade herself into a new AI, a daughter so to speak. They’ve discovered a way to kill flood spores using sonic waves, leaving living creatures unharmed. Chief grabs the AI and runs to escape Zeta before it goes. He gets in a banished aircraft and takes off to space seconds before the explosion. The explosion sends a shock wave throwing chief into the cockpit of the aircraft, knocking him out. The screen goes black…silent…then, you begin to hear muffled voices…
MC wakes up in a crypod. But wait, you’re back aboard the pillar of Autumn. You’re being hailed by Keys to get to the deck. The cryo engineer says the covenant are attacking. Turns out all this was just a cryo-sleep dream…
edit
I’d legit throw my controller.
I think we will most likely see the final Halo Infinite campaign mission going in a similar way like the Halo 2 final mission where we will see Master Chief, UNSC Marines, ODST Troopers and the Swords of Sanghelios teaming up to fight the Banished.
What if you lose ? You just restart the game, like halways. I would love a cinematic where you see the ennemi win. Imagine in Halo 2, you see Tartarus kill the arbitor, then the Halo kill everyone !
