I have a theory of the fan fic variety about how the game will end: may this entertain you…
Final Act:
Apparently the enemy (I won’t spoil it all) needs to take over the Infinity b/c it has a special Forerunner warp drive it needs, and is going to jump to earth after escaping Requiem. (AND KILL ALL HUMANS)
This is why you see Cortana, who is trapped in the UNSC Infinity’s bridge at the time, trying to stop this entity, scream “I WILL NOT LET YOU LEAVE THIS PLANET!!!”
She is struggling with the entity but can only hang on so long…this is where stuff gets awesomely weird:
MC has to fight through the ship to extract Cortana from the bridge. It all has to do with the entity needing to use coordinates that only Cortana knows after she deleted the Infinity’s AI (not sure why, maybe it was weaker and would have cracked?) and is fighting the hacking attempts of the superior entity (like she did with Gravemind).
She starts to succumb and the ship slowly starts to life to take off, and the entity locks MC out of the bridge, having taken control of the blast doors, and it looks like its curtains for them.
But then Cortana is seen ghosting about the ship like at the end of Halo 3, and MC follows it, and the Cortana ghost keeps seeming to lead you into one ambush after another, so its unclear if that’s even her guiding you…
Until you reach a vehicle bay and there’s a MAMMOTH. yes, a MAMMOTH (new elephant)
There’s like a lift or something that takes MC who is piloting the Mammoth up to the access ways on the Infinity’s 3 mile long back. Meanwhile the ship is slowly rising in the air and heading up to this hole in the sky portal thing that exits Requiem.
So as the angle of ascent slowly increases and the ship rises into the clouds, you do a warthog style Mammoth run along the access ways, getting pounded by enemies. When you sustain enough damage, the Mammoth explodes, but there’s a First Person cut-scene where you jump down into the Mammoth bay and drive out 1 of three vehicles (warthog, mongoose, I’m not sure)…
And continue the run. There is no timer visible, but the ship will reach a certain angle of ascent and vehicles will slide backwards and you can, if you are very close to the finish line, jump out on foot for like 30 more seconds I believe it was, at that point. But eventually things fall off the ship’s back and fall towards the planet (and you die).
The end, if you reach it in time, triggers a FP cut-scene where you jump down this series of antennae on the front of the ship and get to the window of the bridge, unload a bunch of rounds on it, until it cracks, then MC punches like a madman (I think this part was player controlled, like a button mashing event) and finally breaks through,
and falls into the bridge. The camera flips to show you that while the ship is vertical, artificial gravity is present. There is then a boss fight on the bridge with a tough (I won’t spoil it) enemy, and when it is killed, all of a sudden there is a cut-scene:
The Infinity exits the portal finally into space, but as it does so it turns on the giant vacuum effect! The enemy MC killed is blasted out the hole of the empty bridge window MC broke in atmosphere!! MC is almost blasted into the nothingness of space to drift along for all eternity as all the air in the ship is squeezing out the little pee-hole of the bridge window as massive speeds.
MC grabs on to the window’s edge and you can see the metal bend he’s hanging on but it’s a losing battle.
But then: Out of the blasting air that is so thick it looks like a cloud appears a PURPLE HAND!!! IT GRABS MC BY THE WRIST AND PULLS HIM INTO CORTANA’S ANGEL OF DEATH LIKE GLOWING EMBRACE as the winds swirl around them…and slowly die down, as a series of metal blast covers come down and cover the hole behind them.
She caresses the cheek of his helmet and touches something that lets air escape with a hissing noise and her somehow solid glowing purple hands start to lift the helmet, and MC halts her by suddenly grabbing her wrists, as if to see if she were indeed real.
“HOW.” says MC.
Echo-y girlish giggle…"a parting gift…from a friend (slowly, softer) John. There’s a reason for everything (almost ends in a whisper)
Close up shot on Cortana’s face smitten with creepy, cocky, devilish smirk.
