- Halo 4 removed Campaign Theatre from Halo for no good reason. - Halo MCC removed fileshare browser from Halo for no good reason. - Halo 5 removed split-screen from Halo for no good reason. - Will the next Halo game remove forge mode for no good reason? We seem to be going in that pattern…It seems that each Halo game keeps removing a feature. So much for next gen (Xbox One leap from Xbox 360). Shouldn’t next gen move things forwards rather than backwards?. Its fine if 343 wants to remove stuff if there is a solid reason behind it, but these 3 modes. Campaign Theatre, Fileshare, and Splitscreen have all been removed for literally no good reason. If we keep going down this backwards route, expect Halo 6 to remove forge mode.
Dear Halo fans:
We need to make noise so that 343 at least keeps campaign theatre and fileshare in Halo. Or else guess what? Forge will be the next to be removed if this trend continues. We need to set our foot down and say “enough is enough” and put an end to this downwards trend of a feature being removed every Halo game.
Dear 343:
I love you 343, but you need to listen to the fans. Removing these features not only hurts your sales, but upsets fans. I want Halo to do well 343, I want the fans to do well, I want YOU guys to do well! But it won’t happen if you guys keep chopping out features with each new installment. Please listen to what we have to say.
You may disagree with their removal of split screen, but don’t give me that BS about them removing it for “literally no good reason”. Apart from that, I agree with you.

60 FPS is not a good reason for the removal of it.
(Not to mention Black Ops 3 runs at 60 FPS and it has Splitscreen.)

It’s a subjective matter, not an objective one.
Getting back on topic. There really is no excuse for Fileshare and Theatre mode not to return in Halo 5.
The better these consoles get, the more complicated it is to create experiences on them. It’s not like they can just port over a firefight mode and click the new enemies and ship it with the game. Thousands of hands-on hours have to go into each and every game mode. On top of this, some of the features listed were used by a relatively small percentage of the community and thusly may have been determined not to be worth thousands of hands-on hours by 343i. I have a specific memory of trying to share a screenshot with some friends using the file share system and I had to explain how it worked to every person I wanted to share it with. They had no idea it was there and had no interest in using the system after it’s discovery.
I’m not justifying 343i, just pointing out that the process may not be as easy as people think. We as the community need to give constructive criticism for sure and we are each entitled to our opinions, but there also needs to be some form of trust that 343i is making the best H5 that they can. That trust may not be strong because of past experiences, but the process doesn’t work very well without trust. I hope I don’t sound like a 343i fanboy.
Anyway, Happy Haloing!

Thanks for your friendly feedback.
The issue is that the Xbox One is supposed to be a step up from the Xbox 360. Better graphical capabilities, more space, ect. Otherwise who on earth would spend monney to buy the next generation leap if it is worse than its predecessor?
Halo on the Xbox 360 could run Theatre Mode, 4 player split screen, Fileshare, ect. So there isn’t an excuse for Halo on the Xbox One not to be able to do the same if not better.
It’s a balance, they are trying to maximize there profits because they are a business but they have to keep there costumers. They need to be careful with what they decide to take out and listen to their fans.

Removing fileshare, splitscreen, campaign theatre to maximize profits? I’m sure 343 cares enough about their fans not to let something that cold happen. Even Microsoft knows that angering fans like this will hurt sales.

You make very good points that I agree with: the Xbone is supposed to be a step up from the 360. I think most people would say that it is objectively a better console than the 360. I has better graphical capabilites, more space, etc. just like you mentioned. But that is kind of the problem: it’s a different console entirely with more graphics potential. Software will need more manpower to be designed well. Where 720p and 30 fps were the norm on the 360, that will likely not be acceptable statistics for those that invested in an Xbone. That means everything 343i built with H4 and Bungie previously pretty much has to be thrown out the window and completely redesigned from the ground up. 343i would need to rebuild the theater mode, rebuild the local coop mode, the firefight experience, campaign, the maps, everything. Whatever they build must be virtually from scratch. With the enhanced processing power and graphics potential, that also means they would have a lot more work to do in the same time frame. Especially if they include these features from past games and plan on unveiling new features as well.
On top of this, they can expect smaller monetary returns from H5 because it is released earlier in the console cycle than H4 or even Reach. **Many think **the smaller potential install base virtually guarantees they will make less money on H5.
So it’s just a tricky topic that has no clear-cut answer. Sure, as a fan of Halo I would love for a good PVE mode to ship with H5. I would LOVE all the modes and features from previous games to appear in H5. That would literally be a dream come true for me. I just don’t feel it’s a realistic expectation. I stand by my statement earlier that says we as fans need to have a degree of trust in 343i that they are making H5 be the best game it can be. There will be additions, and there will be cuts.
I am also appreciative of the calm manner in which we are discussing right now and the polite response to my earlier post.

If you guys started packing legitimate arguments 343 may take you more seriously. Stop ignoring glaring issues, and present a constructive argument and case for your point. That may work on twitter and tumblr but not with professionals that want to get their work DONE.
(Honestly most of these issues I’d say is the fact that Halo is already pushing the limits of what consoles can do, and would be better suited to be on PC)

“Probably for a good reason” yet you don’t state that reason. There is no good reason. Campaign and Multiplayer use the same engine in Halo 4. Theatre worked in multiplayer, there is no reason they couldn’t work it in campaign. Not enough time? 343 could have patched it in post launch.

No. They could have patched it in post launch.

You don’t think about all the other people who care about split-screen? Many people have friends, family, partners who they live with and can’t enjoy the game with them now. Not to mention BO3 runs splitscreen just fine at 60fps. No reason Halo 5 can’t do it, especially given it should make better use of the Xbox One’s hardware than BO3 (Halo is an exclusive not multiplat).

Really? So you are grouping me with one of those “I hate 343 no matter what they do people”? Did you even read my last paragraph? I said I love 343. I want them to improve and keep these features in. Was that personal jab really necessary? Personal jabs lead to flame wars and it goes against the waypoint forum rules.

This is constructive. Non constructive would be “Halo is dead! 343 ruined it! I hate 343” I am not saying that. I am saying how they can better themselves. Not everything that is crticisim to 343 is non constructive you know.

I see what you are saying now. I guess the only thing we can hope for is that Halo 6 has enough dev time for 343 to remake splitscreen, campaign theatre, and everything from the ground up.

That would be fantastic! I can think of nothing that would make me happier as far as Halo is concerned lol. I would probably have to quit my job to play full time!
None of that besides the 3rd one is relevant to Halo 5.
Theater is going to be in Halo 5 and they are still working on it and are not sure if campaign theater will be in or not. File share was added into the MCC so there is no reason to assume that it won’t be there in Halo 5 either at launch or post launch.
Splitscreen has already been discussed. The game runs with the frame rate. People have already explained that it is a problem of the game not being able to run on a 30fps simulation. Maybe if they had another year of development it woul be in, but that’s not going to happen.
Assuming Forge will be removed with your only evidence being mostly made out of speculation is a bit of a stretch.

Fileshare has been added to MCC?!
If thats true, I’ll test it out for myself, then update the OP.
Good work 343i
It isn’t complex, but you can now search for people which is the basic component. None of the fancy stuff from the previous games, but if you want to find someone’s maps or screenshots and know their gamertag you can do it.

Can you at least browse through a list of publicized forge maps?
There is a surprising amount of maturity in this thread, are we still on Waypoint?
I am also hurt by 343’s decision to cut some of those features as I really enjoyed Firefight and I was looking forward to using the new Spartan abilities to demolish countless waves of enemies.
I think 343’s focus is what has lead to a more stripped down Halo, however, I truly believe that the investment has payed off.
Multiplayer is looking so slick this time.
Because the Xbox One is using an x86 architecture, I would expect that 343 are actually saving time with development compared to developing for the 360. I guess only they know though.

You are wrong and here is why. MCC does have a fire-share now and it is working decently. No its not a full blown file=share from Reach but it is implemented so your point is moot. They already stated that Theater would indeed be in the multiplayer aspect of Halo 5 and that they are working on trying to get it in the campaign as well but they aren’t sure that they can BUT they are working on it so you can tell that they are removing it to spite you, although I wish they would cause you need a huge attitude adjustment.
