If any of you were around during Halo 3’s glory days (and i’m sure many of you were), then you all know how important the file share and bungie favorites were within Halo 3. I know that while sitting in a lobby I would always check through everyones fileshare to look at their awesome pictures, and find cool maps or gametypes. Each person’s fileshare was so quick to get to and it really added a personal touch to your service record, almost like a bio explained through the things you like. I hope to sweet baby jesus that Halo 5 has a decent and quick fileshare system as well as a 343 favorites or featured page, because it really gives the community incentive to create awesome things. You all know just as well as I do that community is what keeps people coming back and determines the retention of a games online component. Hopefully the nail it.
Has anyone heard any word of such a system being in place for Halo 5?
I want the replay free cam option after games… it was great for replays.
“Community” was always, imo, a way for fans of any particular video game to make it sound as though being a fan of that particular video game meant so much more. A way of saying, we’re not just fans, this is way more special than that! Cynic that I am, I would just role my eyes and give my most patronizing “Sure, kid.”
But the file share system in Halo 3 truly was something special. It was the essence of “community” in Halo.
My friends and I would download maps that complete strangers on the other side of the world created and play customs. I’d download other player’s beautiful screenshots to use as wall paper. I’d get all giddy anytime someone would like any of my video clips.
Bungie did a good job with this in Reach too, but it’s been gone since then and you can really feel the loss. I really hope 343 can bring it back somehow. For me, it takes precedence over things like Warzone and Halo Championships.
Please bring back the file systems per individual players. It was amazing being able to utilize it for finding awesome things. During its use in Halo 3 I found some very funny stuff.
I hear what you are saying, but imo file share and custom games are not enough. Getting 8 people together of similar skill, for a custom 4v4, is vary rare. Forge needs full blown matchmaking support and a streamlined means to promote content to a dedicated community playlist.
Without a genuine means to showcase the end results of forged content, then what is the point of forge? When 99% of forge’s content, even back in the Halo 3 days, went unseen, unused, unplayed, and unappreciated. Its like the movie ‘Field of Dreams’ but without any baseball equipment. We built it, we came, but there is no means to actually PLAY.
I put a lot of time into Halo 3’s forge, but have not touched it since. Once I realized that forge is nothing but a digital abyss that sucks away my time and creativity into oblivion, I vowed to never touch it again. But… once I see actual support for forge’s content, I would put my heart and soul into creating maps.
Personally, I expected the file sharing system to be overhauled with major improvements in MCC. Unfortunately they went about as far backwards as they possibly could have. For Halo 5 I’m once again expecting a file browser overhaul. I have mixed feelings about a custom game file browser. The main thing that worries me is people that are terrible hosts and/or have terrible games taking population away from matchmaking and quality hosts. If there wasn’t any sort of reputation system for that, then it would be flooded with kids who don’t know what they are doing. Fortunately it’s much easier to find lobbies on the Xbox One with the larger friends lists, but you do have to spend some time finding and adding friends that like Halo Customs. I forge a lot of minigames and frequently host lobbies, so add me if you like customs and send me a message mentioning customs to be sure that I add you back.
It’s not in the game, at all. Sorry but it was confirmed on Twitch.

makes sense with forge not launching with the game
it was an amazing feature i hope it works as easily as it did in halo 3.
I remember finding that sharks and pirates game where it was infection but zombies had super speed on sandtrap and the non zombies spawned in an elephant (pirate ship) with blunderbusses (shotguns) and they had to drive the boat around haha and it had life boats (ghosts) incase it got to hairy.
i could only imagine what this new and improved forge will create.
They NEED fileshare… if there isnt then forgers, theater… ists… will be furious! its the way to download maps… so it will be there! as for 343 faviourites i really REALLY hope they bring this back, its somethings thats needed to be in the game since halo 3, everyone used it… its where you found the best pictures, best maps, best game modes, best video clips! It NEEDS to return!
