File Share/Forge Improvement Ideas

The File Share, a place known for its incredible amounts of creativity and the possible upcoming maps to be seen in the community playlist. So how about we make it a bit more interesting? Here is a nice list of improvements that would make it a bit more fun than hitting “Download” a few times during your hours of searching.

Problem: There are not enough sorting options.
Solution: For that little drop-down, how about a “Most Downloaded” option and a nice “Most Popular in the last X weeks” would work nicely.

Problem: There is no tagging system
Solution: Add a tagging system; Not every match is good for every gamemode. Lots of Racing themed maps are out there as well as the likely new resurgence of Infection maps and maybe even some King of the Hill. (Also, any chance you could bring back Dominion from Halo 4?). So to sum it up, we should be able to mark maps as being made for a specific gametype, as well as being able to attach a custom gametype to a map would solve the problem that has been around as long as file share: A map’s description saying “Use With XXXXXX Gametype that you will have to search for in the other file share category and might not even still be around”

Problem: There is no reward for making an excellent map/clip/gametype.
Solution: (That wasn’t much of a problem) But anyway, how about if you reach a specific amount of downloads on your map/gametype or views on that gameclip of you bashing Warden Eternal’s head in with an energy bayonet would grant you some well-deserved REQ points? I don’t mean like getting 1 REQ point for each download but instead having thresholds to reach so that getting to 10,000 downloads would get you a gold REQ pack (For the sake of example). Not 100% sure how this could be balanced but there is a promising concept with that one.

Problem: No REQ points are earned during forge,
Solution: This one is tough but I think that if you do forge for a good 3 hours you should get about a silver pack. This would work with a system that would track if a player goes AFK for more than a few minutes to stop their gain of points but would be a nice bit of a reward for pouring your heart into a map. But to be honest, going with that last idea of points for downloads this sort of system might be less necessary but hey, I think that no matter your level of skill you should get a bit of a reward for sharpening your forging skills.

Problem: There isn’t a good way to do racing maps.
Solution: This one is pretty simple, for ages we have used King of The Hill markers to act as a goal line or sometimes even Dominion Terminals (Yes, I would love to see dominion again) but this is almost impossible to balance for a circuit race (usually requiring a tough to measure jump through a King of the Hill radius) so yeah, could the Race gametype of running through gates come back?

Problem: Not All Warzone Weapons/Vehicles are in Forge and the ones that are aren’t very manageable.
Solution: So yeah, everyone wants warzone REQs in Forge but while I seriously appreciate the Rally Scout Warthogs showing up I think the way did wasn’t the optimum way. How about we look at the different colors of vehicles in Reach? You would switch through variants with a simple list and that could work well with Warzone variants as well. I mean if it could be done it would be incredible but if not, how about making each gun/vehicle a category where you pick the variant? I mean this could be a bit slower than it used to be but I think we all agree it would be worth it. Also, different colors of Mongooses, Gungooses, and (Scout)Warthogs would be awesome.
