HALO 4 FILE BROWSER IS OUT!
looks like things are still rolling out, so proceed with caution, and ctrl+F5
Issues to date:
No “send to Xbox” option (as there is in the Reach file share).
–Workaround: add files you want downloaded to your file share and download them manually. works fine until your file share is full.
UPDATE: Functionality will be added soon, but not timeframe is given source
No “rendered films” feature for easy viewing of films (like there was in reach).
BUG: Tag textbox becomes unstable after applying a tag
If you apply a tag to a file and then immediately start typing another tag, your text will be deleted as it is entered. This bug lasts for about a second or two after the earlier tag was applied; once it ceases, tag typing works as normal.ISSUE: There is no way to view one’s Recent Screenshots. !RESOLVED! File Browser > View Your File Share (right above game selector) > Recent Screenshots
Historically, one could view Recent Screenshots (those auto-uploaded by Theater) by using a Recent Screenshots page on the website (Bungie-era, not sure if Waypoint had it for Reach) or by doing a Custom Search by Author in-game. Neither of these options are available in the online File Browser.
Adding the ability to search by author would alleviate this issue, in addition to making the online search functionality more useful in general.
BUG: Screenshot downloads do not have a file extension.
The files generated by the File Browser do not have extensions. Screenshots are and always have been JPEG images, but users unfamiliar with past File Share systems will not be aware of this, and will not know what to save their files as. This is unintuitive. Screenshots sometimes don’t download (possibly due to missing file extensions?)
BUG: no way to remove obscene tags from your own files.
SUGGESTION: Allow people to view all tags on a file, rather than just the top tags
Right now, the File Browser only appears to show the top tags on a file. A button to show all tags on a file would be helpful, as many files have relevant tags that fall to the bottom and should be upvoted.SUGGESTION: Option to sort one’s Tag History by the number of times each tag was applied
For people who actually apply relevant tags, this could be a nice way to see what sorts of content one encounters, and how often one encounters it.SUGGESTION: Make it possible to open a file in a new tab, when viewing a Share or a search
Currently, it is not possible to open files in a new tab. It is possible to have a tab open to a single specific file (full-view a file, copy the URL, paste it into another tab), but when viewing a set of files, you cannot middle-click a file (or use the right-click menu) to open it in a new tab.ISSUE: Fancybox behavior is unintuitive
When you browse a collection of files in Full view (this icon), the behavior of certain links is unintuitive. Clicking one of the thumbnails in the “carousel” at the bottom of the Full view dialog will trigger a file download.
Instead, clicking the thumbnail should jump to that file (so that you can browse a little more quickly than if you were limited to the previous/next buttons).
BUG: Download counts are not shown for map variants, game variants, films, or film clips.
BUG: Intermittent locale bug with the File Browser
On a page load, one of the filter drop-downs had its options in Spanish. Everything else was listed in EnglishBUG: Every time you go into Details View on a file, a new copy of the JavaScript handler for the “Tag” button is attached to that button.
The first time you open a file’s details, things work fine. You can apply as many tags as you want, and it’ll be normal.
The second time you open a file’s details, you will send two requests every time you apply one tag, making this bug occur.
The third time you open a file’s details, you will send three requests every time you apply one tag, making this bug occur.
The problem continues and gets worse every time you open the “fancybox” on a file.
BUG: The “Unable to Add Tag” dialog does not display properly
If you enter an invalid tag and attempt to apply it, an error dialog will appear, but it will be covered up by the Details View (“fancybox”) dialog. You’ll only see the error after you exit the file’s details.BUG: File Browser “predictively” shows actions that might fail as if they were successful.
Here’s how to reproduce:
- Tag a file with something, such that your new tag is one of the top tags.
- Close the details box.
- Re-open the file’s details.
- Verify that your tag has been applied only once.
- Upvote it.
You’ll see that the vote count on the tag raises to “2”. You might find yourself thinking, “Wait, what? You can’t upvote your own tag. Why did that upvote count?”
It didn’t. Close and re-open the file’s details, and the vote count is back at 1.
The File Browser assumes that actions you take will be successful, and acts accordingly. If you upvote your own tags (not in the same session that you applied them) or if you try to apply a tag with an obscenity in it, these actions will initially show as successful.
BUG: Unable to search by File Author
