File Compression.

I have a 500 gigabyte hard drive.
I’m not the only one.
I still have MCC installed. That’s 70gb.
Ok, that makes sense.
Y’know…it’s 4 games.
2 of which have 2 graphics systems
There’s also…what? At least 50 maps (I have an awful memory I just know it’s between 50 and 100).
So…explain this to me.
Why is Halo 5 the size it is?
It is a single campaign…with…what? 10 arena maps and 15 warzone + warzone assault maps.
So why is it over 87 gigabytes, soon to be increasing with the next update.
It doesn’t make sense to me.
Are the files un-compressed?
That’s all that seems logical.
Even with all the useful and useless stuff in the REQ system…
Nearly 90 gigabytes?

Last-gen games are a fraction of current-gen game games in terms of file size. A lot of it is to do with higher quality/resolution textures and models.

That’s for sure.
Let’s compare Halo 5 to another game…
Just Cause 2.
The entire game…4.8 gigabytes.
For a game with a fun campaign, huge open world…
Along with lots of fun and not-so-fun vehicles and weapons.
Yet somehow.
A single update for Halo 5…is twice the size…or more…of that.
For…normally:
A single arena map.
A single Warzone map.
Maybe a new armor set…more likely an old armor set with different patterns on it…
Along with a few weapons, which are most likely re-skins of old ones which fire differently.
You’re telling me…that’s more than twice the size of 4.8 gigabytes?
Halo 5 isn’t in 4k resolution.
The game only goes to 1080p…(even if the Xbox One can’t handle that).
So…what gives?
Why are updates 8-12 gb.
It just doesn’t make sense to me… 90gb…

For those who want to say “You compared a new game to an old game though!”
Ok.
Let’s compare it again to Halo MCC.

Halo 5 (In its current form with all updates):
A single campaign.
17 Arena maps (5 of which are canvases)
6 Warzone maps.
6 Warzone assault maps. (29 maps in total…)
Warzone firefight? (Not there at launch)
A collectible system with 13 (if I remember) skulls…and 117 audio logs…there were too many which are…pointless…they’re boring to find and boring to listen to.
Overall…roughly 90 gb

Halo MCC (with ODST DLC)
5 separate campaigns, (with 6 graphical systems! (Halo CE, Halo CEA, Halo 2, Halo 2A, Halo 3 (and ODST), Halo 4.))
5 Graphics systems for multiplayer (Halo CE, 2, 2A, 3, 4)
106 maps (I believe…it’s hard to count them all)
Spartan Ops (on launch too!)
A collectible system in Halo CE, Halo2, Halo 3 and Halo 3 ODST! Terminals and skulls…there weren’t too many of them, but they were all fun to find and cool to watch
Overall, roughly 70 gb
Halo MCC has so much more content than Halo 5…and yet…it’s 20gb smaller?
What?
And some of us thought MCC’s file size was bad…at least it’s explainable!

There’s a special irony when a poster whines about file compression yet insists on writing every sentence on a single line.

Maybe it’s the billions of req’s in the game.

I don’t see why they didn’t compress it, from what i’ve been told the difference in performance is really really small

Not sure if you actyally read what the person to answered to said but there are ALOT more polygons, lighting, and so much more, such things don’t come in a small package. Also, could you compress your posts.

So many people are going to have to Uninstalls h5 this fall when they buy new games.

Just Cause 2 (and most other Xbox 360 games) are very little going on behind the scenes compared to Xbox One games.

Look at Assassin’s Creed (any XB1 one), GTAV, Battlefield, etc. Each one of them can easily surpass 25 GB.

The Xbox 360 used to release with NO harddrive and 256 MB of memory storage. I ended up with a 20 GB Harddrive. I wasn’t able to play any game alongside GTA V because it was pushing too close to 20 GB

Lighting and polygons included.
You’re telling me Halo 5 is still 20gb larger than MCC?
Soon to be more likely between 25 and 35gb larger?

Going to be me soon if 343 don’t sort themselves out.

Yes battlefield, GTA and MCC…but they’re all still smaller than Halo 5.
Hence why I added MCC as a comparison…
