First of all, the new update seems awesome, it’s pretty much all I’ve been waiting for. Forge, social playlists and a file browser should have been in the game on day one though. I hope too many players haven’t already abandoned the game because of this.
Anyways, as I said, this update will be epic. But I don’t really understand why they decided to include only a “basic file browser”? We will apparently only be able to download and play maps created by people on our friend list. Why?? You can’t drag out on these community features any longer 343, the clock is ticking, people are already starting to give up on Halo 5.
I hope they can fix this before they release the update but I’m guessing that won’t happen…
I really love the game though, don’t get me wrong. I just don’t want it to stumble on these simple but very important features.
‘‘Basic file browser’’ as in, they will obviously be working on it as time will tell. I have the feeling that 99% of this community has no idea how coding works, and they think that you snap your fingers and something is done and ready to be added to the game. Rather have them add something than nothing or a half broken option.

I completely agree. Coding is extremely hard and even the tutorials I’ve followed on Unity lose me sometime. I would rather wait longer for something that works great than have a broken file browser.

Of course I realize that it’s not a walk in the park to add all of these things. 343 have probably been working their -Yoinks!- off. But I would rather have seen them delaying the release of the whole game than releasing a game missing features that have been there since Halo 3.
There seems to be a lot of stuff in this update. They probably didn’t have time to do a full file browser, so they are giving us a basic one until they finish.

There is one small correction I want to make here. You don’t need to be friends with who ever made the map, you just need to follow them. Besides, the language they are using implies that at some later point we’ll be getting a better one, so no need to worry to much.

You act as though it’s a dichotomy. There’s a third option: release a working and detailed on time. Yeah, I’d rather have something basic that at least works, but above those I’d rather have what 3/Reach launched with.

So basically you can follow a known community forger and take maps and game modes off of their file share if you are following them.

You’re right, but 343i isn’t some indie developer. I know a lot of the complaints going around on Waypoint seem petty, but these big game studios need to be held to a higher standard or the trends we’ve been seeing lately will become the norm. And ya I’m also glad we’re getting some form of file browser, but still…
