Fight with Marines how they were again

Maybe a feel script updates but I don’t want the marines to just be a cannon fodder where they stand around with a basic weapon and provide AI support. We all know we want a well scripted AI to stay put when they should, fire when they should, and connect as they should. Everyone also mainly wants to trade weapons with them again. Oh how comforted did I feel on my Heroic-Legendary plays giving my marines a Spartan laser or Rocket launcher or sniper so they could be reliable…

We all know we want the marines back.

I have made a thread talking about UNSC NPCs in a bit more detail. Right now ally NPCs are more of a bit of background. Granted in Halo they were not just decoration either missing just to make visual effects as someone trying to fight or stay in one spot shooting at any enemy as a thoughtless automotron, but still mostly in the background not to fight the level for you nor to make for a compelling challenge to fight against. In the post I have talked about the different types but not in any formations or groups. But there are for non-spartans and non characters.

  • UNSC Navy/Civilian personnel: Mostly to symbolize how bad the UNSC is losing with these being combat ineffective. It would be nice if they could repair vehicles or activate auto turrets. - UNSC Marines: The default combatant, but just because they are basic doesn’t mean they are useless. After all Marines in SC2 are pretty important even in the late game. In the first Halo they came in two forms, standard and armored. Armored could be more of a line formation with automatic weapons while standard more like a combination between line and skirmishers. - UEG Army/Militia: Compensates for the lack of accuracy and aggressiveness with more numbers and heavier weaponry. Basically each Soldier has the health of an Armored Marine. - UNSC ODST: Right now they are just Marines on Steroids with armor, and more aggression (more likely to move instead of stay static). However I think it would be better to treat these guys as specialist in how many special forces are divided into groups that focus on a single type of combat. Right now the two cannon companies we have are the Helljumpers which is the bread and butter drop pod troops, and the Bullfrogs which are jetpack mobile infantry. I could see there being more companies that specialize in a different aspect such as the Chameleons which are ODST that uses Active Camouflage and the RacoonApes ODST which tend to scrounge enemy weapons often using covenant/Promethean weapons and a few would even come across a jackal’s shield and use that in combat. So while I did add in some things to expand the bestiary and recommendation to additions to the AI to give them more of a battle field function instead of being a battlefield background I do think a lot can be done to improve AI combat just by adjusting the formations, that is the grouping and equipment of each group of Ally AI NPCs. A recon/sniper unit would be only 2 marines one with a DMR (the spotter) and one with the sniper rifle. Also the default Army unit would be a (8 person) squad where the Marines would only start as a (4 man) Fire team.

Love it thanks
