Fight in 0-G environments?

343 have clearly shown chief’s booster pack which suggests that it will be usable in the game. This is an interesting idea but how exactly would it work?

And could it work in the multiplayer?

Title of the thread is quite misleading. No to Zero Gravity/Low Gravity environments in multiplayer. A booster/thruster/jet pack could be fine as long as it is a map pick-up and not available off spawn.

0-G is boring. It has NO skill… and basically, who ever jumps is dead. Because you cant strafe or anything. It just slows gameplay even more

Plus it ruins perfectly good maps. Zealot and Anchor 9 would be the two best non-forged/non-Anniversary maps in Reach if it wasn’t for the Space areas.

I think it actually sounds fun. I wish I could forge a map in the low G area of Zealot.

Maybe. I always wanted some more “spacey” moments.

and notice how they took half the mmap out on zealot… And the half they took out was Zealot. Because IT SUCKED. lol

You’re forgetting Condemned, also known as the everyone hide on opposite sides of the low-grav room and wait for rockets to spawn base.

Worst map I’ve ever seen in Halo. Its TOO big for slayer. And Too small for BTB because EVERYONE gets gathered in the grav room. Theres no skill in the grav room. Once ur in and you jump… u cant do anything except take bullets.

Well, at least it looks pretty.

Although I dislike the idea of spawning with an armor ability, spawning with a thruster pack would not be a bad idea, because if there are zero gravity areas to play in, you will need a way to get from point A to point B.

If you were to enter zero gravity, you would not be able to stop, turn, or run because there would be nothing for you to use to propel your self once you take a step. But, one thing I noticed in the Halo 4 teaser was when the Master Chief blasts a hole in the ship and goes outside, it seams as if he has magnetic boots that keep his feet from coming off the ground. So that might be a part of the game-play.

But if you could not navigate zero gravity without a thruster pack, and you had to go find a thruster pack in order to have access to areas of the map, it would slow down game-play, and cause frustration and anyone that enters zero gravity without a thruster pack could quite possibly get stuck and have nowhere to go.

I believe a “thruster pack” could only work in zero gravity, so spawning with one at the beginning or during a game would only allow you to navigate zero gravity, and would not give you an advantage in any other area of the game.

0-G is NO gravity. Those maps just have a severely reduced gravity in the space areas, as the “structures you are on create their own gravity”. Thus when you are outside of the structure, you are less-impacted by the gravity created inside. 0-G would actually work great if you had thrusters from spawn. Thrusters would only work in changing direction or moving forward/backwards. There’s no sound in space, so you really wouldn’t hear the thrusters either.

Movement wouldn’t be hard to work with either. Say both bases are completely in space. Only cover you would have would say be asteroids/rock/debris in space that cross through the battlefield between the bases. Jumping wouldn’t work, and holding forward on the default left-stick would make your spartan “thrust” in the direction you’re looking. If you look up and hold forward, you’d thrust up. Holding down and looking up would let you thrust “down” potentially. Or screw thrusting down, you could end up upside down fighting people in space. It’d be somewhat similar of the Sabre mission on Reach.

I believe that is the whole purpose of the thruster pack, to allow you to go up, down, left right etc. I think you would simply control it with the left thumb stick, much the same way you would walk. You could move up an down simply by looking up or down and pushing forward or pulling back on the left thumb stick.

This way you could “strafe”, and have complete control of your Spartan’s movements, and you could have floating cover that could be moved by pushing it with your Spartan or shooting it (I’m just making ideas up). This type of combat would take more skill if you ask me, because not only do you have to worry about where the enemy is, but maybe they could use there cover as a weapon, (gravity hammer anyone?) or a way to get close to you without exiting their cover. Very strategic! Just think of the custom games!

I am really excited just thinking about all of the possibilities of Zero Gravity Combat!

It would be the best addition to Halo in my opinion! Oh man!

I don’t understand how people actually like the idea of zero/low gravity. It is completely gamebreaking. What’s the point of it? It just ruins maps.

Heh, you haven’t played against my crew then. We often don’t go for Rockets. Hell there’s only two of them. Instead we roll as a group and usually hold a room down while sniping from afar, swording up close and team shooting in between.

Rockets do NOT need to be the only strategy of that map to succeed.

think about it. Strafing on a flat surface with 2 spartans is the EXACT same thing. 0-g wouldnt add anything. It would take away, special jumps, out maneuvering ur opponent and getting behind cover. Youre just thrusting around. Its not… “HALO” I guess it would be a good idea if you were 5, and never played Halo 2 online.

perhaps a combination of a low gravity environment, a booster pack and magnetic boots would be good. The booster pack would control similar to a jetpack but allow players to move quickly in any direction in low to 0g environments. It could be like an evade in space? For players without a thruster pack it would just be a low gravity environment like the one on condemned.

It should definitely be in the campaign though seeing as 343 have already shown it.

If it was in the multiplayer I would like a more finely tuned first person version of DeadSpace 2’s 0-G gameplay.

No zero gravity in multiplayer, that is all I ask. It would be fine in campaign, as it may tie into the story and you really don’t have to worry about “thinking” enemies, but I am strictly protesting the inclusion of zero/low gravity environments to Halo 4’s multiplayer.
