Fight for Flight

While playing Warzone, I realized just how fast and powerful the wasp and banshee are. The phaeton can certainly do a lot of damage, but being a gunship, I think it needs more health. The phaeton helios is a great vehicle, but more health would be a great step in it’s purpose of an expensive yet powerful vehicle. Wasps are cheap, fast, and can usually get a good deal of damage to enemies. Banshees are agile, strong and powerful, but the phaeton just doesn’t seem to have what I expected, for the most expensive air vehicle. With powerful battle rifles, magnums, and especially spartan lasers, the mighty phaeton falls quickly. What should we do to make Halo 5’s vehicles more competent?

We could start by increasing the diversity of vehicles on BTB maps. Instead of buffing the Phaeton directly, it could fulfill its role on a map that’s balanced to have a Phaeton on it. Halo 5’s BTB maps have a serious problem of lacking vehicle diversity and it’s sad that there isn’t even a single multiplayer map with a Phaeton on it.

That is still very surprising. I assumed at least one level would have had a phaeton because all of the weapons/vehicles are available to use somewhere in arena.

I don’t want a Phaeton anywhere near BTB. A Wasp can already do plenty of damage against teams and a Phaeton is just a buffed up version of it which will only make it worse. Maybe if some of the maps were setup better it might work, but they currently aren’t.

To be clear, I wasn’t suggesting they should be on any of the current maps. You said “maybe if some of the maps were set up better” which is exactly what I’m suggesting. Set up a map to have a Phaeton on it. Halo 5’s BTB is in dire need of more vehicular diversity and they could fix that with some new maps. It’s silly for there to not be any Phaetons on any maps.

A had a hearty chuckle with this.

So you are proposing the Helios Phaeton should get a health buff? Are you on shrooms?

I COMPLETELY agree I just use the regular phaeton on Firefight as it dies way too fast in Warzone. By the time you can pull it out everyone has vehicles that cost the same levels that are way better. I’m too afraid to pull out a Helios because how rare it is and flimsy the base version is.

Wheelman helps, especially with the Helios (I think you can take a couple of nasty hits and still stand) but I wish 343 would lower the REQ lvl required, buff their health/damage or boost the chance of finding it in packs. I think it is just outclassed in general, especially by some of the other top-tier vehicles.

I’ve been saying this for a long time! https://www.halowaypoint.com/en-us/forums/6e35355aecdf4fd0acdaee3cc4156fd4/topics/btb-where-are-the-phaetons/58bc17ed-3619-4eb0-abcc-44dca4198d9f/posts?page=1#post11

That thread is from 2016 and people are still asking for BTB Heavies…And I don’t buy the argument that Phaetons are “too OP for BTB”. They’re only too OP if you don’t add enough counters to them on the maps. Phaetons have a big glowing weak spot right on their underside, and they die from like one Splaser shot to it. It’s downright sad for 343 to create such a cool, badass vehicle and then put it on zero maps.

I’ve used Phaeton Helios in custom games and it’s godly against light vehicles and anyone on foot. But when underfire by five or more ARs you really feel it. Now imagine 5 heavy vehicles plus multiple rockets and spartan lasers all aimed at the weak spot…
At the very least the base Phaeton needs a significant damage and health buff as you said. It’s just way too flimsy for its req level. Or a req level reduction*
