FFA Player Count

Hi, my opinion on this matter comes from a fairly high rating in FFA. I placed 2309 CSR in FFA in the pre-season and am currently ~1950 CSR in this season.

I strongly believe that the FFA playlist needs to go back up to 8 players. 6 players is just too few. More than half of games, a player leaves who is doing poorly within the first few minutes. This leaves 5 players; so most games, we are playing on maps with 5 people. Now that there are only 5 players most of the time, and each map has about 3 power weapons, two of them being quite dominant. This allows for the select few to gain a significant lead. When there were 8 players, there is enough combat to prevent someone from controlling a power weapon for more than 4 or 5 kills. It just seems more balanced to me to have 8 players.

Thanks

Negative!!! FFA is perfect as is. Sorry you can’t get your easy spawn kills and easy mop ups with over crowded eight player maps any more. But with six players FFA is now about player skill and not player luck.

I agree that it needs to go back up to 8 player. Just about every game runs the clock out, people quit and it becomes a super small match, etc. Even though 8 player was chaotic when the game came out, the maps have been changed a lot so it should play better than before.

Negative. 6 player count is perfect. We have had different experiences it sounds like. At 8 player, it was nothing but spawn camping by the few who managed to get the power weapons and advantageous ground. I’m not lying when I tell you I recall a game where I was spawn killed SIX times in a row. And every time you start a fight, you or the guy you’re fighting get picked off by vultures because the maps are too small for 8 players. I realize you have to expect to encounter multiple enemies, but not like that. At 6 players, it’s played like a dream for me because all those problems went away.

6 players is definitely the right way to go. There is no spawn camping and it’s a better fight for the power weapons. Kinda wish I could play FFA with a friend though… Oh well back to custom games then.

8 man needs to come back, with improved spawns. 6 man makes the game slow.

I agree with LethalQ, sorry OP.

Also just as many people quit FFA when it was 8 player as they did 6, so that won’t help. The ranking system just needs to do a better job pairing people up. That would prevent less quitting but there is always going to be some no matter what.

6 is good and 8 is too many. You can’t up the player count to account for quitters.

To be honest guys I think reducing it to 6 was just plain lazy.

Their reasoning was to stop spawn killing but it still happens in FFA with 5 people let alone 6. (Or I’ve just had a really bad time)

Perhaps if 343 actually attempted to fix the spawn issue…

FYI I’m an onyx in FFA and was preseason.
Also a 44 on halo 3 on lone wolves so it’s not like I haven’t played my fair share of ffa

It must be just your bad luck then because I absolutely love FFA now and hardly ever get spawn killed. Sure it does happen sometimes but it has ALWAYS happened in Halo. Getting spawn killed happens in very game mode from time to time. I even have been spawn killed in war zone. Which as big as those maps are shouldn’t happen but it does. Also if you played as much Lone Wolves as you claim you should love six player count as well because that is what the lone wolves player count was.

With 8 players, it’s not possible to spawn safely… Not a matter of weak spawn locations.

I’m well aware what the player count was…

8 was nice. It was different. And bungie knew how to make good maps

No nope… nope… 8 player FFA caused extreme problems due to a severe breakdown of the spawn system! People were spawning and dying, only to spawn next and die by the exact same person, without even being able to move or defend themselves.
