Ffa placements need radical overhauls

I placed diamond 2 in ffa having beaten mostly last seasons onyx 2000s in placement games. They also placed ridiculoudly low-diamond 2 etc. What on earth is the point? I was onyx 1912 last season. All of us should be placing onyx when we always end the season very high onyx in ffa. Its also not fair when some players like kampy get onyx 1700 with their games so they get champ easily. I am livid with how stupidly peoole are ranked these days. Doesnt happen in team playlists so why in ffa?

Seems pointless to me and a good way of making sure only a few ppl get to champ and that everyone else gets discouraged from playing cos their placements are shockingly inaccurate-loads of players i know boycott ffa for this reason. Plus why place players so low when the system ranks you up so quickly straight after placement, even in 5th place matches? I place diamond 2 ish and then gain epic amounts of csr for any placing anything other than 6th. Its like they rank u low on purpose but then give away csr like confetti the next 10 or 15 games til you get near your true division and csr that your mmr requires. Why not just put us close to begin with? Going up 10 or so csr for 4th and 5th in any match straight after placement until you get to your correct csr seems foolish. It only levels off gains when you get to your true rank (for me it levels off at onyx 1800-1900). It seems like a deliberate attempt to ensure players have to play 50 odd games to get their true ranks.

The whole ranking system is borked, as we all know. I guess they don’t want to admit it and drive away the competitive crowd.

I agree dude, ots rubbish. Whats even more stupid is im matching whole games of champs multiple times cos i have my mmr of onyx 1912 from last season but only having diamond 5 this season and trying to rank up from playing pros and champs! Its crazy. My mmr makes ranking up harder not easier! Unless in reality i have a champion mmr? In which case why not place me onyx 1700? This makes no sense!

I also placed diamond 2 in FFA this season, and last season i was onyx 1820. I have only seen a couple of people place onyx in FFA after their placement matches. Even Vetoed last season or two seasons ago placed diamond 6 and won 9/10 games. And he’s insanely good. I feel as if the ranking system places you 300 csr of where you’re supposed to be. That’s just my guess.

Good to know im not the only one, though it sucks you also ranked low. I agree they probably do rank you 300 csr or so too low on placement but its annoying that you then rank up for basically finishing a match the next 15 games til you get to the right division. Seems a bit pointless to me as it ranks you more on play time in that scenario and penalises those who cant play very often :frowning: just doesnt help when i now match champs and have to beat them to rank up. Like jimbo, unscdf guy and the top top ffa players. Even unscdf guy who is now champ 2 already placed diamond 4 for no reason crushing onyx 2000s. Kinda like vetoed. He was not impressed…

I agree with everything in here absolutely everything

The cool thing is that the higher you rank in CSR each month, the higher your placement “should be”. For example, Admiral, if you and I were to place onyx 2000 this month, next month’s placement should put us around Diamond 4-5. I have nothing to prove this reasoning, but it seems pretty practical to me on how it works. In 343’s mind, they rather you grind back up to your previous CSR rank so that:
1.) you will play the game more often
2.) the competitive streak is still there
3.) it shows that you’re at your true skill rank/level
However, I do wish that we still had more playlist such as snipers and doubles along with that 1-50 ranking system. Even when you reach level 50, you could still have a CSR ranking based off that, and still obtain a top 200 champion rank if you please. You would never rank down from a 50 to a 49, but your CSR would go down if you lose games or to people with lower Ranked (50) CSRs…if that makes sense.

I agree that we are placed lower on purpose-generally i lose 600 csr or so from season end to my next placement. But i always think that you get to around 200 csr ish of the csr you are owed in placements through just being in games and finishing them. It just makes a mockery of the system if you are denied csr in placement to then have it given back to you over time. Its like your skill doesnt matter in doing well in games after placing which actually reduces the competition not enhancing it. Seems very pointless to me.

It also means the onyx 1700 placers have an enormous advantage as they can get to champ very quickly, when often they have worse placement games than diamond placers with the same opponents. When onyx 2000 players place diamond they have to catch up to the champion onyx 1700 placers who can play games at the same rate. In other words the champs are overly protected by players being placed lower as they cannot be caught unless they play all day. Rather than being skill based the system has become too time biased-which the placement system was designed to prevent.

It is because you didnt do that well on your placing matches.

I thought that too but then i checked my opponents and i beat loads of last seasons onyx 2000s and only lost to them rarely (i constantly matched them due to my onyx 1900 last season). Its not a straightforward solution to win more as your opponents matter more. With a similar record against such opponents rippinheads has qualified in the past at onyx 1700. I have trawled lots of stats on halo5arena.com and found that all the onyx 2000s i played also qualified diamond level. The system isnt consistent. Well it is, at underranking people by similar amounts - 600 csr or more less than people ended their last season at (or roughly two thirds equivalent.)

You might as well just play the best you can and hope the ranking system doesn’t yoink you over again. That’s what I do.

Having done more research i am convinced that there is a cap where at placement you can only place at a csr of 2/3 or 2 thirds of your previous seasons csr. This seems to be very consistent when i have trawled the data of players i have faced in ffa by using halo5arena.com. so an onyx 1800 player places 1200 csr (diamond1), an onyx 1500 finisher at 1000 csr (plat 3ish) and onyx 2250 at onyx 1500. These are rough approximations but match what i have seen. This theory suggests players would need a previous season csr of around 2550 to get onyx 1700. Anything over 2600 would obviously be over onyx 1700 in theory but the cap limits it to only 1700.

I may be wrong and of course assumes mmr and csr to be the same-i would guess a player with a high mmr that would be equivalent to 2500 csr but just hasnt played for a season (or only played 10 qualifying games last season) will get a placement equivalent to 2/3rds their mmr score. So if a player got onyx 2600 one season, only played qualifying games next time to get onyx 1700 would still get onyx 1700 the next as their mmr from the onyx 2600 csr season would carry over.

Let me know guys if this fits what you see.

For free for all they should make winning give vastly more csr and losing to take away vast amounts. I’d say 3x more
