Hey everyone this is my first post, and I am looking for some feedback on my current situation:
I mostly play free for all, and both this season and last I’ve made my way to an Onyx rank. I usually hang out somewhere in the 1500-1700 range, pretty modest. I have my ups and downs.
Now ever very since I can remember, regardless of the playlist, I was almost always matched with players who were more or less ranked the same as me or at least close to it. Unlike team based playlists, in FFA you will usually move up in rank even if you don’t win first place. I understand that 343 has a ranking algorithm that will move you up or down based off of not only what place you come in, but also based off of the csr ranking of the players you played against.
So so this means that 90% of the time, if I was 1st, 2nd or 3rd, I would move up in rank. Now obviously that’s not always the case, I’ve been in games where I got 5th place but still moved up, and been in games where I got 3rd and lost rank. However the majority of games is pretty consistent, if I get top 3 I move up. It’s been like that from gold all the way into Onyx.
So here’s the issue: of the last 15 or so games I’ve played, the players I’ve played against have all been a mixture of either diamond rank, or still qualifying in the playlist. Every single game I have played, if I don’t get first place, I lose csr rank. It’s insane, like even if I get 2nd place I don’t move up. And if I get 1st place I move up like 2 csr points. I’ve been playing in onyx for quite a while and this has never been an issue until now. Anyone who plays FFA in Onyx, have you noticed this? That would mean to move up from 1500 to 1550 (which I could normally do in 4-6 games if I average a top 3 spot every finish) would take 20+ games in a row of getting first place??!. Anyone who plays FFA would know that’s pretty ridiculous. Anyways any feedback would be greatly appreciated thanks guys
I don’t really have a great answer for you. One theory is you’re kind of on the low end of the onyx spectrum and you can’t actually drop out of onyx until the next season, so your csr is lower than 1500. Which would explain why you’re getting matched with lower than onyx players, and why you’re having trouble getting your csr up. I’m really not an expert on the algorithm yet, and i dont play a ton of ffa, so i can’t be a lot of help. Hopefully you have a few good finishes in a row a<nd you start getting matched with onyxes again and get more rewarded for top 3 finishes. Sorry i can’t be more help.
Thanks for the answer. That would make sense if it started happening when I was at 1500 but it started when my csr was in the 1580’s. Maybe there just wasn’t a lot of onyx players in the playlist last night. That’s the only other reason I can think of. Still running into the same issues today however
Or. The fact that the csr system for ffa is actually broken. You cant go up but you can go down at the mo. If you do go ip it is in first with modest 2 increse. 344 meed to sort it out. But is major problen today
I played a lot of ffa in the preseason and was in onyx, but I didn’t play much in that rank. I was diamond 6 this season pushing for onyx, but this system is so broken… So many times I’ve been 10% away from ranking up and a 2nd or 3rd place will drop me back down to half way… Meanwhile the games I do win are against platinum and unranked players, so I hardly move up… It needs to be a consistent value. 1st 2nd and 3rd need to get boosts and get a W on their record regardless of who they beat. That is out of my control if you decide to rank me with players who are lower than me. We all know too well that these ranks aren’t based on individual performance, so to assume that because I lost to a platinum, means I lost to someone who is worse than me is absurd.
There is currently a glitch that 343 have yet to acknowledge where you lose csr for finishing anything other than first regardless of who you play. And stays the same if you win. Has been happening 2 days now. Until 343 sort it it ffa for onyx csr is broken im afraid. You can only lose rank really. So my advice is not to play because you should be going up. The number of people dropping csr like this in the last 2 days is alarming
