FFA gametype proves that Radar and Melee are broken

Never wanted to go into FFA and because of challenges and that challenges are one of the main ways to level up in this game I had to experience playing this gametype and it proves that these two mechanics in Halo infinite need to be fixed and improved.

It quite clear that we need the Radar back to the way it was in the first flights. Doesn’t have to be too overpowered but it needs a wider range. Too many times an enemy would be on top of you and you wouldn’t see them on your radar. In ranked this can be forgiving because there is no radar to begin with. So you have to be aware of your surroundings. Having no radar makes games frustrating with everyone’s mind set that if they get shot once they run away. Every game of ranked is to get the drop on your enemy 1st and if you get spotted or shot you must run and hide, making ranked as it always was a sweaty hide and seek game. Sometimes it can be fun for me but it’s usually annoying. Slayer on small maps with a radar that is pointless makes the games just like ranked. There’s no fun of running and gunning like we’re supposed to have in social. I think most people agree that the radar needs a little buff with its range.

Melee
This is straight up broken in infinite. With people zipping at you from across the map to smacking someone over and over again and they won’t die. 343 have always struggled with Melee with previous halos so this isn’t new to me but halo infinite is being made unplayable at close range because of this broken mechanic and people abusing it.
I have a idea of how melee should work out to stop these one hit kills with the bleedthrough mechanic with melee.

With no shots fired.

One smack puts shields from 100% to 50%

Second smack knocks your shields off

Third smack puts your health down to half

Fourth smack with half health and no shields will kill you.

All the above is with no shots fired and is a new way that I think would stop people abusing this melee bleedthrough mechanic that 343 has now at the moment.

Now melee is so bonkers I don’t know how 343 still have it like this in the game.

If you have 40% of shields left and take one smack it kills you!!!

Having no shields it takes 2 smacks to kill you!!!

This had been like this since the MP came out. You could see someone shoot them first knock their shields off and they would just rush you and melee you once and kill you. You popped their shields and you still had shields but you died instead. This has happend so many times it’s very broken.

I know I’m not the only one that experiences this because I’ve seen posts about it. One thing also that makes melee terrible is servers lag or dysnc. You would be spamming the melee button 5 times and only swing once but your enemy can swing at your twice in 1 second?

These two mechanics need to be fixed and tuned properly for fair gameplay and I hope 343 will address these mechanics soon.

I can pick out players who desperately melee and you can counter them in a few ways. One funny way is I’ll keep backing up and firing on them while they’re smacking at the air. Amusing.

I actually agree with this and hate the way players who are ‘losing’ a fight can just trade out (yes I’ll learn to counter it / get gud blah blah blah).

That said, it won’t change. Melee has been powerful in many many iterations of Halo so just gotta play to its strengths

I feel like a lot of issues stem from the bad map design. I wonder how fights would end up if we had some of the tried and true Halo maps.

I agree, melee is too overpowered, this is a first person SHOOTER after all. People need to shoot, not punch all the time

Melee isn’t the problem.
If we are looking at this in a pure Halo sandbox, Melee fits perfectly. What’s actually happening is the existence of Thrusters and Grappleshot. These allow the player to close the distance way too quickly and safely with no counter play unless you grapple into someone with a Sword.

Having the ability to initiate the first melee strike puts you in a power position where you are now facing someone with 90% Health and no shields. The opponent can attempt to break your shields or hurt you before you reach them but usually you close in so quickly that they can at most, chip off 30% of your Shields before you connect with them and drain their shields. At this point, you pretty much won the fight because they can either try to beat you down, but you will be left with 40%~ hp while your next melee will kill them.

This is why we need things like SMGs and maybe even the Shell Loaded Shotgun to counter these gap closers.

Or, we can just remove equipment from FFA.
Call it FFA Classic. No Equips. No Powerups. Just you and the weapons you scavenge.

I understand what you mean by the sandbox and equipment. There is a problem with melee though and I’m not saying this to annoy you or to prove you wrong. Your not wrong in any way.
Melee is broken in a way that having your shields knocked to 40% you are then a 1 melee hit kill. This has happened to me none stop.
When you have no shields and full HP your 2 melee hit kill. This doesn’t make sense and its not balanced.

I even tried this where I would get the drop on an enemy shoot at them first get there shields down to 40% then smack them once for a easy kill then I’m left with 20% shields or no shields and 90% HP.

People are abusing this mechanic to a point where they play in a way to get your shileds down to 40% and then rush and 1 hit melee kill you. People would have 25 kills in a game and 18 kills would be melee kills…there’s even a melee spree medal!!

Having shields and full HP you shouldn’t be 1 hit melee killed once!! Being meleed while having shields no matter what percentage shouldn’t bleed through to health. So if you have 40% shields and get meleed it should knock your shields and not kill you.

This works well on the big maps only but with smaller maps it’s how most people get kills by rushing in at you with a wall at your back.

Would love to see some halo ce maps remade for Infinite

The melee is a big issue.

The equipment is just bad all around.

We should have permanent thrusters so we can dash away from someone trying to melee

Or remove Sprint so no one can Sprint slide towards you.

The melee has always stayed the same over the course of the lifespan of the entire halo exsistance, no idea why you are coming out with these assumptions, it’s a core feature of halo you twit, it’s 2 punch a kill or a shoot then melee equals a kill I have no idea why you want melee to not be melee, I’m astounded by your logic

Halo has been like what you said through every halo game prior yes your right. Everyone knows how melee works or should.
Maybe you haven’t experienced it enough. Before going around making quick judgements try thinking first and consider what im saying.

This is what the melee is now so your telling me that this makes sense to you.
So if your in a battle against an enemy and your shoot them knocking there shields off and they rush you so you melee them once and it doesn’t kill them but you die. During this battle the enemy has no shields and they get your shields down to 40% they rush you and melee hit you and you die…
You can’t tell me this is right after what you said.

It’s always been two hits to kill a fully shielded Spartan and that shouldn’t change.

Or we can have no Thrusters, no Slide, no Sprint, Melee does only 50% of the current damage so it’s like Halo CE.
We can call the mode Classic.

It feels like there is a mechanic in social modes with the AR where the game allows opponents to trade with you no matter how much damage is dealt by both players. I will get more shots in with an AR than an enemy and we both melee and we both die almost 100% of the time. It seems to not matter how much you shoot someone with the AR in social. If you melee after putting any amount of AR bullets, you will get the trade. It made FFA boring, to trade 99% of the time. I hope there is a br starts ranked FFA playlist added soon.

Agreed. I only put out an example to make melee not so OP.

I wish it was like this in the game but I would smack someone and it would knock their shields then smack them again and put their HP to half then smack them for the 3rd time to get a kill.

I could just spray bullets with the AR knock their shields down to 40% and kill them with a one hit melee kill!!
I swear I’m not lying ive done this and it has happend to me. It’s so broken that people are now using this melee bleedthrough to get easy kills. So much that I already pointed out. Someone would have 23 kills and 18 of them would be melee kills…
This is not like any other Halo previously?
