So, I just watched the Halo 4 Panel and this thought popped into my head. With Halo: Reach we were able to have our Character be either male or Female, in multiplayer and Campaign. It was nice hearing characters say “She’s here” and “I’ve heard about her” and there’s something Special about when carter says “Emile go with her…That AI chose you, it made the right choice”. Granted John-117 is Iconic to Halo, but I’d love to see a game where you can choose Gender, or have another strong female character outside of Cortana to run along side MC or to be badass on her own, like some of the female Spartan II’s and III’s or ODST. Just a thought.

Since 343 seems content to use the Chief for their games, probably not going to happen. Also considering the fact a Halo 2 Anniversary is equally likely, I doubt we’ll get one outside the main trilogy of games either. That’s why I treat the default, canon Noble Six as a female.
What if gender is optional for certain games that are not with chief? Since it was just done with Reach they could easily do it again.

Look at it from 343’s business perspective, make an ODST game with a female lead or a remake of Halo 2 with Chief? I know which one will bring in the money…sadly.
They can’t just change John’s gender, that would be completely ridiculous and stupid.

The main trilogy is all planned out and a female protagonist ain’t happening there. They also said if CEA sells well, a Halo 2 version is also locked in place, so much for one there. Considering they are also owned by Microsoft, big creative projects are doubtful, thus thinning the pool for female leads. I’d love to be proven wrong, a new Halo Wars set during the Forerunner-Flood War would make me cry with joy, I can already see the Librarian’s Leader Abilities.

We have a long future ahead of us
I am no expert on the complete timeline of the Halo wars, nor have I read “The Fall Of Reach” however, I do know enough about the timeline from those that have read the book and from the timeline off of Halo Wars to say that there can always be a female spartan included in the future trilogy. According to the Halo Wars timeline, twenty-five of the remaining twenty-eight spartans were sent to Reach, and only Spartan 117 was the known survivor of its downfall. John-117 was the only survivor of Reach, but not necessarily the last spartan. From what I have been told of the book, later groups of spartans could have also been trained on Reach before 2552, so future male and female spartans could be main roles or fight along side John in any future Halo games.

Doubtful that they’ll be changing Chief at all, but he might have a wingman (or wingwoman in this case) who is a female.

That’s what I’m talking about. Someone doing badass things, possbily bailing chief out of certain situations that not Cortana in his head. Maybe someone like Kat in Reach.
If anyone female were to do it, chances are it would be a female Forerunner. Chances are slim though.

That’s tricky. Trying to fit another Spartan into this story would be tricky, and making one that is non-canon purely for co-op yet have a customizable gender would seem like a lot of effort for something not even influencing the story.
Cobra, you have to realize that 343i will not always go with the more, “calculated” course and they will often go other ways.
