Female antagonists.

Other than Dr. Halsey, who are your favorite(s) in the series?

Sarah Palmer.

Why do you two think Halsey and Palmer are antagonists? I can’t help but think of them as protagonists. Halsey created the program that saved humanity, and all of the galaxy’s sentient life. Palmer is a Spartan IV loyal to the UNSC and her superior officers.

I would have to say Isla Zane is my favorite female antagonist. She almost wrecked the UNSC’s plans for the Infinity.

Halsey is definitely not an antagonist. I hesitate to even call her an anti-hero.

My turn: Cortana.

Am I doing it right?

Because they don’t know what the word “antagonist” means.

Gravemind, technically. There’s probably some lady parts mixed up in there.

Only thing Doctor Halsey is Antagonistic to is Sarah Palmers ego.

Chur’R Yar from contact harvest.

Apparently the Domain if halo 5 stuff is anything to go by.

We actually have a real lack of female antagonists in halo, there’s some Kig’Yar that pop up, but beyond brief novel appearances, they never seem to get to be villains on the level of their male counterparts.

Margaret Parangosky and Serin Osman are two of my favorites in Halo. Nobody personifies what is wrong with Humanity in the 26th century more than these two.

I think you are confusing antagonist and villain. If one were to say Halsey is no villain, I would agree. I would also say Palmer is an antagonist, since she follows orders from Osman, an obvious villain, on several occasions.

This. I’m surprised nobody already mentioned them? They’re hypocritical, xenophobic and imperialistic. Although they have humanity’s interests at heart, they’re still quite unethical and self-centered. They remind me a lot of Master Builder Faber and his corruption of the Builder rate and Encumene council. They want control of the humanity’s destiny and to ensure humanity’s dominance, even if it means silencing and imprisoning opposition and problem people, such as Catherine Halsey.

If the Reclaimer Saga does result in a massive civil war between an ONI-led UNSC and the Insurrection at its peak, I’d love it if Osman and Parangosky could be the main antagonists. Hunt the Truth and Halo 5 possibly seems to be alluding to this.

An anagonist is someone who actively opposes the protagonist. Palmer never impedes any of the protagonists.

Osman nor Maggy are antagonists. They are on the side of the protagonist.

Technically so was Del Rio. And he worked in opposition to Chief or impeded his efforts throughout Halo 4. Besides, circumstances could always change. Chief has already gone AWOL from the UNSC. And it was mentioned that Locke has his doubts in ONI and that Halo 5’s plot will offer many surprises and will change radically in direction around the halfway mark.

And don’t forget Palmer shot Halsey’s arm off. Considering how protective Blue Team is of Halsey, I don’t see them getting along very well with Palmer in 5. In all fairness, Halsey probably won’t be an antagonist.

Who is an antagonist is all relevant to who the protagonist is. I would say that John is the protag in Fall of Reach, where Halsey is both an antagonist (to an extent) and a protagonist. And in Halo 4 / Escalation, Palmer or Halsey could be considered the antagonist, all depending on who you see as the protagonist. I guess Halsey is the more likely “antagonist” in Escalation, though Palmer sure was in my eyes.

My favourite female antagonists of the series are FERO (I count her because she could be an antagonist to Ben in a small way), but my favourite overall female antagonist is the original Spartan IV, Ilsa Zane. She was an awesome character and I hope to see more of her.

Ms leader of ONI

In terms of female antagonists, it solely depends on the perspective of the protagonist… Miranda Keyes for instance is considerably a antagonist to the Arbiter, Thel 'Vadamee, prior to the Great Schism of 2552.

Female Antagonists

  • Margaret Olenda Parangosky - Serin Osman - Ilsa Zane - Chol Von - Prophet of Obligation - Raia 'Mdama

I would say Serin Osman is the ultimate female antagonist. A true -Yoink-.
