feeling like a super soldier

So i picked up Crysis 2 on boxing day, I start playing the campaign, and i can tell they reall tried to get you to feel like a walking tank. It worked when it came to animations like the one for along fall etc, but when it came little things not so much, like having absolutely no weight behind the melee which i think 343 nailed.

Now i know this is HALO 4 forum so whats my point? right lol, my point is playing crysis made me wanna go play halo 4’s campaign for that feel alone. Couple questions i have for you guys, do you think 343 succeeded in making you feel like you were a super soldier? What do you think they did well and what they could do better to more capture the " walking tank " feeling. I know i might get flamed for this because lord forbid we take ideas from other games and put in halo. Do you guys have a game in mind that game you that super soldier feeling and why?

And for a lil fun if you were going to battle and had to pick between your spartan IV armor or the Nanosuit 2.0 which would you choose and why?

hope you guys are having a good holiday season what ever the holiday ay be.

I don’t want to feel like an invincible super soldier. That ruins the purpose of playing. Halo 1 nailed it, you felt strong but still vulnerable. I never liked the connection I had as the Master Chief in Halo 4. It’s the reason why Superman is a terrible superhero, he’s pretty much invincible and has basically unlimited capabilities, so what’s the point in watching it? You already know exactly what is going to happen. Him just bashing his way through a bunch of hopeless bad guys. To hell with that, I wish 343i would stop treating us all like babies.

Cortana used to be Chiefs weakness [not to be confused with the chief on his period in H4 overly emotional]

Now, Since theyve taken her and taken off his armor, hes fair game to kill off in Halo 6

also… Spartan IVs are in absolutely not super-soldiers.

I felt like a super soldier in H4.

I felt it the most when I was the only person to go and confront the Didact with a fully armed pelican.

Not to mention the fact you blow up a Storm Covenant cruiser in the beginning of the game.

I also felt it when I got on a broadsword to go and fight the Didact.

I think for the future, they could do things like show how strong the enemy actually is.

For instance, I think that when they introduced the Forerunners, they should have liked showed a cut scene with an elite fighting a Forerunner knight and getting owned.

Alternatively, they could have shown a cutscene with an elite and Spartan IV going hand to hand combat and showing the true power of a Spartan IV.

I don’t know if it makes sense to someone, but by showing how strong something/someone is, it gives the player a feeling of a tank when you kill it.

Happy holidays and sorry for the long read!

When I first played Crysis 2 I did feel like a super soldier. I loved the heads up display of the suit. And the fact that it spoke as when using AA. “Maximum Armor”! So then I started to wonder…Um, who would win in a fight between Chief and this guy?

i understand what you mean and you nailed it with the superman reference( let see if i can enjoy man of steel)i dont mean it in the sense that no one can touch me but more of the way it feels when i do what ever i am doing. I think as long as they show how powerful the enemy you are facing truly is, you can feel like a super soldier without walking around like you God lol.

@Zodiac thank youu for the long post love reading feed back and ppl’s views n opinions

hahaha same heree, imma go with chief!!

Except Superman is not invincible.

He’s my favorite superhero because he’s the original superhero.

Can’t wait for Man of Steel

I felt like a bad -Yoink- mother when noble six stood behind to save… EVERYONE! alone… in a planet whit the whole covenant armada there and yet he saved everyone he took his helm off and killed like 3 elites and did dual wield whit a magnun and a assault rifle…

I cried when they killed him.
I would love to know his name but never his face

The previous Halo games made me feel like I was a super-soldier a bit more than in Halo 4.

In Halo 4, I was more focused on exploring all the beautiful locales and pressing the green buttons (*poke LOL) rather than DESTROYING everything. I don’t think 343 intended for the player to feel very powerful, as Master Chief is facing against a mysterious enemy that not many people know much about, and Prometheans are much more complex and powerful than previous foes.

To be honest I can’t call it. But I’ll be pulling for Chief all the way! I actully can’t wait for Crysis 3 to hit 1Q 2013. It’s going to be the only game that is going to pull me away from Halo 4.

All the halo games are good including halo 4 but my favorite is reach

HERESY!

lol

Everyone is entitled to his/her own opinion.

CE was mine.

CE and 3 for me

At times. I mean, Chief looks amazing and his new Armor seems a lil’ more bulky IMO. But to be honest, the gameplay is fun and challenging but did I feel like a real super soldier or like Chief himself? Not so much.
IMO Crysis does that way better. While Crysis 2 (on consoles, don’t know about PC) played a bit clunky at times and Halo’s controls seem to be much smother, I feel way more powerful using the Nanosuit.

Oh and I think I prefer the Nanosuit over the Spartan IV armor because it gives you that many options to approach a battle. Garbing ledges, cloaking and so on.

I didn’t feel like a super soldier…just a guy in pro armor.

Maybe, if we got more QTE’s other than that single “Climb a wall”. Or slow-mo events that you can play in, to emphasize John’s heightened reaction.

Chief would win definatly. Master chief basically has everything the crysis suit has but its better plus master chiefs luck and just pure skill just beats the heck out of crysis.

I agree i said something like this before i liked the introduction of QTE’s but they were kind of lackluster in how they were executed.

i haven’t made it that far into the campaign but do you think you feel more powerful because your enemy feels weaker? Ive shot a couple aliens but the soldiers are easily man handled, like picking them up and throwing them across a room, cant do that with an elite but to be honest i dont think id want too lol

bump because there has been good replies
