Feeling Defeated (SR152 grind)

For the past two months I have been on a solid and consistently been grinding FF everyday and using legendary boosts. I just made it to 146 and although it feels like im getting close visually, I know that I still have like 39 mil xp to go and it is just crushing. I feel like giving up now would make me feel extra defeated given that I put all this time already to getting where I am now. So its almost like im falling into the sunken cost fallacy; going forward because I’ve already put in so much. Before you post “just use boosters and grind mythic every weekend” I would but I have a wife and child and that time of the week is set aside for them

Overall I enjoy the grind even though it gets pretty damn repetitive sometimes. I just wish that 343 could add Mythic as a mainstay and maybe give some last minute double xp boosts for free. Maybe when the marketing for Infinite goes into full swing we will get special packs or playlists to mitigate the grind, but for now its a bit demoralizing. Sorry to bum everyone out lol.

The problem is you’ve been grinding FF, the most boring and repetitive game mode there is. I hated it, and I was usually only playing it once a day (only playing it more than once because I didn’t win the first time or forgot to back out of the lobby before it put me in another game). You gotta change it up and do some other things in between FF games or you’ll burn out for sure.

Hey man, you’ve already put in a good start to the grind. As someone who went from a very low level to sr152 in just under ten months, I can’t express how important it is to understand that there is still ample time to reach max rank. However, it’s still going to be a rather large time requirement. Try not to stress yourself out for that “incentive” which to my knowledge has yet to even be identified.

There are a plethora of posts that I’m sure you can search and read through for tips about efficiently spending your time in-game to reach max rank. But again, even with those helpful tips you still have to simply play the game and put in the time. I’ll give a few general XP tips below.

Sorry to disagree with the person above me but Fire Fight (FF) is one of the best ways to get XP in this game. You really wanna shoot for around 1k XP/min in-game. So if you play a game that last 8mins you’re gonna wanna be getting more than 8k XP. This can sometimes be difficult, but with a blue booster in FF you should always be at close to or above a net positive for the XP/time ratio.

Mythic FF for days or just FF in general. This is gonna be the best bang for your buck. Try to get a team together for consistent wins.
The featured playlists are those with a star next to them and will pay out a great amount of XP (but rarely that of FF).
I always found that infection gives out a good chunk of XP as well.

As far as playing FF nonstop, yes at times it can start to become very mind-numbing. I would always listen to a youtube video such as Hot Ones for the comedic interviews to help past the time. I have seen others say things such as podcasts or audiobooks. It is really up to you.

Stay strong my dude and remember you’re doing this for you.

I totally understand how you feel. I had similar thoughts a while ago. My solution was to set up a spread sheet and figure out a rough release date of infinate, and work backwards to give me a daily quota of points. I also placed it into weekly blocks, so if I crapped out 1 day I wasn’t too upset as long as I made the weekly total. It certainly helped me stay focused and can identify the progress. You feel happy with each time you exceed the daily or weekly total.

Warzone FF is boring, and difficult with low boosts, the current platinum packs are worth buying if you have already unlocked everything, as you get 3 X Legendary XP for arena, which I find gives me around 10,000 XP for arena games. So can mix up the game type a bit

Well i stopped grinding and im level 150. To me its not worth it. If you play for fun some day you’ll get there, maybe try out some other games so you wont get too sick of h5.

I quit at 150, but that was my goal once I found out that 150 was basically halfway. Just didn’t see a benefit for me to grind all that time for 2 SR levels, and at the time I had all reqs and commendations done. I had fun and am glad I quit before I started hating the game. Maybe give yourself some goals like commendations to keep you busy, but if you are burnt out then it’s ok to do something else.

Keep it going! I support the grind as I am on my way to 152, too! I primarily grind Warzone FF and playing with friends/ a team helps a ton! When I’m playing with a team who is communicating, I end up having fun! Even on auto pilot we were still winning. My problem is that I can’t find consistent people to form those teams.

*There was a lot more I typed out, but it seemed like I was rambling. lol

If you’re looking for people to grind with, hit me up! I’m on everyday around 7pm CST.

A lot of good feedback has already been given, but I think Afro Thunda X makes a point that was very true for me - grinding one game type like WZFF is exhausting. WZFF is a good XP payout, but the trade off is the never ending repetition.

i probably “quit” this game 4 or 5 times, but the 152 grind brought me back along with the featured playlists. Basically I’d grind the new featured game that was released each week. I enjoyed this because of the variety, and it was more competitive and engaging for me…and double XP.

I’m not going to lie though, it would take a Herculean effort for someone to hit 152 by the release of Infinite when sitting at 146 right now.

It is tough to grind when the weather is warm and there is lots of sun. To stave off burnout, I would Suggest you do one wzff heroic per day to get the win and the 3 boost packs and then one other social playlist that you enjoy to the get the other win for the day. On weekends just grind a little bit more but on wzff mythic. When the weather gets cooler and less sunlight, then you can grind more (unless you are in Hawaii or SoCal, then forget it…). Agree with the other poster, it will be tough to get to 152 if you are at 146. Going from 151 to 152 was brutal and I had the benefit of being stuck at home and the 343 Covid legendary gift packs. It ain’t the end of the world if you don’t make it, it is only a game…

As someone who is currently on the grind it doesn’t sounds like your schedule is very conducive with the amount of time required to sink in. Firefight can get boring pretty quickly, especially if you don’t have any good boosts. Playing arena only helps to break up the monotony, but likewise if you don’t have good boosts, the XP payout is drastically worse. Mythic FF will eventually be made a permanent playlist, but who knows when. I don’t want to discourage you, but I think you would have more fun playing other games or no longer trying to grind it out. It hasn’t been confirmed but you may be able to grind after infinite releases if you really want whatever reward it is, but forcing yourself to play H5 will just make you disappointed. I’ve been grinding ever since they announced there was gonna be a reward (I think over a year now playing intermittently), and I can’t imagine trying to go from 146 to 152 right now.

You still have room for more players in your party? I live on the east coast.

Hey, just wanna say thanks to everyone for their feedback! I’m gonna keep grindin’, but I’ll get max when I get max. Slow and steady we all in this together.
