Feeling burned out already by weekly challenges because of FOMO

I’m sorry (not really) but FOMO is a personal problem. Does anyone actually play video games to have fun and maybe win?? Why do you need to show how special you are and how long you played with a pink visor and purple left arm?? What is you’re fearing missing out on?
If you don’t have enough willpower to not blow $10-$20 on an armor set that does absolutely nothing for you, that’s on you. Having said that, using only challenges is really dumb. And also keep in mind, that this is still a beta.

That’s something you should probably deal with before playing any game made today. Destiny would have you bouncing off the walls.

I don’t mind grind in a game, but after playing destiny 2, for little next to nothing at all to show for it. I’m done with that nonsense, and there is no way if this is how Halo is going to be will I put myself through that nonsense again.

Kind of a different grind, though. There’s not really any “loot” to speak of in Halo.
This is still beta, 343 is gonna change things up.

If it’s only a visor, why the massive challenge hoops to unlock it?

It’s manipulation.
Free item locked behind frustrating challenges.
No, it just is a visor, in five years few will remember, fever will care.

As if the reward was the issue, and not the entire system in place people aren’t happy with.

If it doesn’t bother you, there’s no need for you to post in threads like this. That’s hardly of any contribution.

I’m just looking at the time invested that is not worth it to me.

Will see what happens when things get going :+1:

And developers exploiting those “personal problems” isn’t problematic?

It’s a behaviour publishers have fostered over the years, and quite a normal personal trait, social trait too if I’m not mistaken.

I do see your point but I don’t really think that’s a particularly valid argument.

The fact that they might mean nothing to you personally doesn’t change the fact that they generate billions of revenue for game publishers so clearly they mean something to a lot of players and 343 has built the whole multiplayer game loop around driving you to make purchases.

What a joke.

They ‘fixed’ it, by resetting the challenges.

  1. Screwing ppl that had already tried to finish it and got close…
  2. screwing those who had already did some work to obtain the visor.
  3. -not actually fixing it because they still are BROKEN.
    (I didnt progress bulldog/wasp kill which i DID get in a BTB match}
  4. and the daily has become LESS rewarding since it is always 50 now instead of some higher rewards later on that i saw.

what a joke. I refuse to accept that this is just a beta issue. This is the actual mp release in my opinion. This stuff shouldn’t be broken. Not to mention that the fix should have worked. Deinstal maybe?

Yup. You get into a game with a challenge like “get a kill with x gun” - I find myself just camping the weapon spawn. This is NOT fun.
Or, even worse, you have a challenge for a specific game mode like “kill with the Oddball” and you go into a different game mode, I feel like I’m wasting time.

Might sound to drastic, but the fix for this is to just allow us to make progress towards all weekly challenges all at once. Don’t lock us to only 4. I wouldn’t mind having to “clean up” challenges at the end of the week. But I don’t want to hunt and stress about challenges during every play.

SO MUCH THIS!

MCC had better challenges AND a Match Composer that let us pick exactly what we want to play, allowing us to make progress on those challenges with every single game we play.

This just hurts.

If it takes more than 10+ hours a week to complete the 20 weeklies, I don’t see myself doing it ever, really.

FOMO burnout is why I just bought a couple armor sets from the store. The pass seems like a deal long term but along with it is all sorts of hellish grinding fixations and the game right now doesn’t really support that kind of play. Ie. the strategies in place to try to force players into the season pass are why you shouldn’t buy one in the first place (do not engage at all, if you want to spend cash do so through standard microtransactions).

3 playlists and “bot training” (ie. intentionally bad PVE, there should be an ODST level bot playlist too) doesn’t give the breadth necessary to grind every single day even with a standard xp driven system (challenges: -Yoink!- no). On top of progression fixes we need variety to break that up, either in new playlists (ex. Swat, FFA) and game modes that break from the usual gameplay format (ex. Fiesta, Covies, slayer with grapple shots as standard)

The core game is good but that can only take you so far on a limited rotation milked by an inane challenge format ripped off from Fortnite.

I mean I wanted to finish it before the reset but half of my challenges didn’t work so I couldn’t. They are giving it away to everyone anyway.

And actually, Dailies are better now. Sure, it’s only 50xp, but in the long run you’ll get more. Eventually you have to complete 5 matches just to get 100xp originally. Now those 5 games will award you a total of 250xp. So it’s better for players that get in a lot of matches per day.

no, i reached something like #13 of the challenges and it would reward 200 for 2 games…
But, as you may guess…
even that one was glitched and I didn’t get it even if i should have.

Edit: i guess you might be right overall though. This was just the last one i encountered and that stuck in my mind. Thank you for the valuable reply. I think i was wrong. But it does feel like that.

FOMO?
-Yoink!- On My Opiac?

Edit: Oh nevermind it’s “Fear Of Missing Out”

Well, no, they had to reset challenges in order to implement their temporary fix.

Nobody is screwed. They’re giving everyone who logs in next week the visor. In fact, everyone benefits from additional XP opportunity this week.

Those challenges aren’t broken, in my experience. You just have to do ALL the damage to someone with that weapon.

Agreed.

“Well, no, they had to reset challenges in order to implement their temporary fix.”

That is the same thing. lets not fight over semantics. I agree on this: a fix was to be expected ofcourse. I can understand the need. I is just that I was angry over the ‘accompanying negatives’, however you see that as such or no, when my challenge STILL didn’t seem to complete.

“Nobody is screwed. They’re giving everyone who logs in next week the visor. In fact, everyone benefits from additional XP opportunity this week.”

The last sentence is correct. Otherwise, I beg to differ. I you put out effort and perhaps even money to swap the broken challenges, in order to genuinely achieve the reward, you could feel screwed over because everyone gets it anyway. I say ‘Could’. not: ‘Have to’ because i don’t particularly care even if i got to complete it. But that is where the problem lies, that was virtually impossible. and it seemed like it still was(read my last remark).

“Those challenges aren’t broken, in my experience. You just have to do ALL the damage to someone with that weapon.”

In that case, i stand corrected. Thank you for sharing, but how are we supposed to know this, and what sense does it even make?

Cheers, and have a nice day. I am cooled down lol;).

It isn’t, though. It’s a code thing. They were incapable of implementing the “band aid” without doing the reset. They NEEDED to do something, but anything they did would have reset the challenges. They were between a rock and a hard place. Ultimately, the squeaky wheel got the grease, and they opted to grant people the XP they desired rather than doing nothing for a week. At least we get bonus XP out of it.

Fair enough, they should definitely refund challenge swaps or something. However, I don’t like this line:

I think everyone should have the opportunity to get all the unlocks at all times. The fact that they force us to do all challenges every week is part of the problem. Everyone who does the final CHALLENGE should get it, which is why I believe the solution should be: if you complete all challenges in a week, you unlock the capstone challenge. Otherwise, the challenge unlocks for everyone to complete after that week is up. You aren’t trying to get something no one else has, you’re trying to get it while no one else has it. Then your challenge swaps and whatnot are still well-spent, if that’s what you care about.

It might not be ALL damage, but I have never had a problem with weapon damage unlocks as long as I did that. I guess “finishing them off” doesn’t really count as killing them.

For the record, I used a challenge swap that I earned through the BP in order to get a better challenge last night, and got halfway through the capstone before the reset. So I am no stranger to being “screwed over” in this case. I just don’t think it was such a bad thing, and as this is a temporary fix, a better one will come soon enough at this rate. This is just their scrambling fix, which came impressively fast and hopefully is a sign of things to come.
