Don’t worry about missing out. If you don’t pay for the Premium Pass then you don’t really get anything anyway. I’ve looked at the rewards and the free pass barely contains cosmetic items. Only Challenge Swaps and some nameplates. There are barely any visors, helmets or armor pieces. And if you do pay for the Premium Pass then you just as well buy the “bundle” which gets you 25 levels immediately and you already have a bunch of things. So even if you do complete challenges and level up, if you’re a free player you don’t get anything nice. It’s cunningly designed. It’s created for people to pay. No need to worry about missing out on anything because of challenges. You miss out only because you don’t spend money.
You should just try and let them happen passively. It’s not a race to the end! They’ll update all the things soon!
The problem is, it is a race, you have a finite time to complete the challenges and many of the people playing Halo will have jobs or be in full time education so they won’t be able to commit to playing dozens of hours a week, it just isn’t realistic…
When you combine that with the fact that you can only have 3 challenges active at once (or 4 if you spend money) and that many of the challenges will be difficult to achieve for people, especially since:
- many are game mode specific and you can’t pick the game modes you play
- weapon specific ones don’t track (I’m sure this will be fixed at some point)
Take for example Stronghold (think that was the name of the game mode) several times I’ve had win 3 Stronghold matches or complete 3 Stronghold matches, not a problem? I’ve been playing pretty solid for 2 days and am yet to have 1 Stronghold match, so at this rate if I had those 2 out of 4 active I could spend a week and still not complete either one an I still have another 18 to find a way to complete.
Out of curiosity, how many weekly challenges are there? I must have finished up to about 10, but every time I complete one, another takes its place.
Absolutely on point. The grind is set up in such a way that for many of us that can’t dedicate any sort of lengthy time to the game have only 2 options, don’t play or pay. You pay once for the privilege of be allowed to unlock the items, you pay again to accelerate the time it takes you to unlock the items.
You have to complete 20 to then unlock the special challenge, fortunately that is just play 15 games, then you unlock the cosmetic item.
Get a splatter with the repulser
62 games in and I’m done with Infinite.
When you get three double kills, a triple kill, and a killing frenzy and get nothing for it towards your level then the system is broken.
Oh…I have to get 5 kills with a chopper that I have only touched once in 62 games of play to level? F-that!
The fact I’ve played this many games and I haven’t even gotten my weekly challenges even close to being done says this is not hte game for me.
I’m done with Halo Infinite multiplayer. I never thought I would say that especially after 20 years of Halo. It’s really depressing to say that.
Sorry to hear that, I get how you feel though. Really hope they can salvage this.
That’s the whole point of f2p. To keep you as a hostage, coming back because of FOMO.
Xbox missed a huge opportunity here: they could make a complete package without any microtransaction BS, just like the Halos of old and use it to sell Game Pass subscriptions instead of nickel and diming the fans.
I’ve had destroy an enemy banshee and destroy an enemy ghost as 2 of my challenges since launch I haven’t even gotten close to completing them and to make matters worse my third challenge is to get 5 kills with the disruptor it was hard enough getting 1 kill with that damn thing yesterday not to mention that challenge glitched so I had to actually get 2 kills with it
The pass never expires. At least that element of FOMO is eliminated.
Does it really matter of you don’t earn the maximum amount of exp possible every week? All that will happen is that it will take you a little longer to unlock some armour and colours. I sometimes haven’t played MCC for weeks on end and still managed to unlock everything I wanted.
True these are different systems and I think the Infinite system does need a fair amount of work to refine. But the only factor is how long it takes you to unlock the content, not your eligibility to do so.
I do wish they gave you a big list of all the weekly challenges and let you unlock what you can, rather than limiting you to only a subset of five. It can be frustrating when it gets clogged with things you rarely do in game and encourages people to make suboptimal plays just to complete a challenge. I know they want to sell challenge swaps but they do sell levels already, so they already have a way to extract cash out of impatient players.
The absolutely worst part is that the gameplay they have here is absolutely amazing, has great potential to be a massive hit and bring halo back into the conversation when it comes to shooters and would have been a massive win for xbox which it has needed one for a long time now if they just fought the urge to be stupidly greedy. First time since 343 took over where they were this close to having an absolute gem and they flushed it down the toilet in the name of cash money.
They aren’t talking about the battle pass they are talking about the item you get for completing the ultimate challenge which you miss out on if you don’t complete it
This thread is about the weekly challenges not the battle pass.
so some of the challenges are broken…
the one thing that we can actually show off our effort with, that you cannot ‘buy’
and that is cool.
But then what? I had to cycle a broken challenge.
I got an even worse impossible challenge, the actual sort this -Yoink!- is meant for.
So what now? Do i get my challenge completion that i already would have had?
No, we just have to buy another cycler, RIGHT?
end of story. You still have to buy it. and they probably don’t care…
Game is pretty great otherwise. But this -Yoink!- has to be fixed.
The glitched problem is the biggest, but it still remains a bad system. (3) options to fix that:
(1)In my opinion by either making swapping the special challenges free for each single one of them a number of times, say 3-5.
(2)or having us choose between a couple of them after completing the normal ones.
It takes a lot of effort to get trough the first 20, and then to stumble upon a (pay)wall is really demotivating if you really want to go for it even if is difficult. If it is gonna be like this in the future then i will gladly leave halo forever. Because i know exactly why it is done. To make us want to spend money to complete those challenges, which they know we want to after that time investment. I will not play that psychological game.
The special challenges are way to specific and random. Why do I have to get ## bom kills with the banshee? why not just any kill with flying vehicles or any vehicle… that is fix 2,5 i guess.
(3)Make a challenge that is exactly the same for everyone, no swapping, no nothing, then even if it difficult, the rewards shows off you managed to do that. but that will probably not happen anyway since there is already this system and all…
And here i am not even talking about the xp rewards system but there has been enough talk about this here already…
Ah, I see.
Well it is up to the individual how much stock they put in that. Personally I don’t think it’s worth it, especially under the present system, but I understand the desire to change it.
Do we know if rewards cycle back like exchange items in MCC?
They have said that will be the case yes.
We saw stuff cycle in the flight also.
I wouldn’t even mind impossible to clear weeklies if there wasn’t an ultimate weekly challenge with a free unlock dangling over our heads taunting us like “Oh you didn’t clear the weekly? No unlock for you~”. Back in the MCC I did what I could and then proceeded to just go play matches to have fun now these weeklies feel like they are mocking me. Seasonal challenges in the MCC were fair cause seasonal challenges lasted forever but I feel the time pressure they’re putting on me to pay up for challenge swaps and I haaate it.
I think challenges can be fixed with a few changes.
- Split up gametypes. This is obvious.
- Allow us to work on all challenges simultaneously.
- “Capstone” challenges should be handcrafted for their unlock (rather than another random, difficult challenge) and should not have a time limit to complete.
These, combined with the requested XP changes, will make people less likely to grind challenges because of FOMO and lack of progression and ruin the game for others, except for the ones who only care about ranking up as fast as possible.
For those, some challenges may need to be changed to be conducive to gameplay: for example, all “kill this many” challenges should be exclusive to Slayer gametypes.
And the playlists need to be split up.
I think that would solve the weekly FOMO issue and the challenge issue.
I agree with all of that.
Can’t see 343 going for number 2 though as the increase from 3 to 4 challenges simultaneously is a selling point of the premium battle pass and I can’t see them wanting to remove a reason to buy the premium battle pass.
