Feeling burned out already by weekly challenges because of FOMO

MCC had it about right in my opinion. With some focus I could achieve them in a few hours playtime spread across a few evenings.

The experience I’ve had these past few days in Infinite has not been enjoyable.

I’m currently trying to:

  • Destroy 5 warthogs (enemy never seems to be in one when I have rockets)
  • Get 5 kills with Brute Chopper guns (they seem incredibly weak and it’s also easy to flip the thing)
  • Stop a Spartan mid-sword lunge. Its very rare to encounter one and I keep getting sliced up.

I can only imagine they made them difficult like this to prey on people’s FOMO on the weekly reward (currently a gold visor).

I have a couple of swaps from the battle pass but there’s no guarantee I’ll get a better challenge. Are they hoping I’ll pay money for more swaps in the store?

If this carries on I don’t see me playing very much as I’m feeling burnt out already…

This has required several hours of play in BTB and I still haven’t done them.

Its seriously ruining my enjoyment

Yep, the challenges seem to be made intentionally impossible so they can sell challenge swaps. There are 40 of them on the battle pass free track and they’re for sale which should tell you everything you need to know. The weeklys were designed to be impossible and the free pass designed to contain next to no rewards to force you to grind the ultimate challenge, and pay to allow you to do that.

Other challenges I’ve encountered include kill a wraith that only spawns once every dozen games in a 12v12 gamemode, or to splatter 5 spartans with the repulsor (how do you expect me to even do this once?)

I agree, they need to do something about this.

They really need to have like a free challenge swap a day. They could make it something separate from the actual consumable so you can’t bank them. I swapped out 2 of my challenges, but I only had challenge swaps because of the Rockstar Promo. I don’t think it’ll be as bad once people have earned the challenge swaps that are part of the Battle Pass, but starting out you gotta do what they throw at you.

That’s a great idea.

That’s the irony of the whole thing. FOMO is the very thing they wanted to destroy.

I fear now that they’ve deliberately designed it to make me spend money on challenge swaps so I don’t miss out on the weekly ultimate challenge reward (currently a gold visor).

I didn’t think they were doing the whole FOMO thing but it looks like they are. This ultimate challenge reward unlock will not be obtainable any other way…

Agreed, this pacing sucks. The only place I should be feeling burned out is at work, not playing games.

You should just try and let them happen passively. It’s not a race to the end! They’ll update all the things soon!

I got the sword lunge one earlier ha

I’m stuck on Rocket Hog kills. I only have 2.

The other is the combo toss headshot immediately after grenade blows up. I’ve done it 30 times over but I guess I’m not quick enough. Some have felt instantaneous too. I’m not sure why it isn’t counting, but I remember only getting that medal once in the flight. I may have to swap that one. It doesn’t seem doable the amount of times I’ve hit what I think it should be.

I’ve been playing pretty solid since the beta came out and I’ve only in the last half an hour unlocked the final weekly challenge.

I’ve had to skip:

  • all the weapon challenges (as they don’t track correctly),
  • all the vehicle challenges (as I don’t use vehicles much and when I want to the objective isn’t near spawn)
  • several of the game mode specific ones (because after playing all this time I still haven’t had some of the modes even appear in rotation yet).

If this is what the weeklies are going to be like going forward I think I’m just not going to bother. 20 challenges, especially when a significant number just aren’t likely to be achievable by me, is going to feel like a 2nd job and realistically I don’t have this sort of time every week to just play Halo, nor will I want to fund it with all the needed challenge swaps.

Challenges seldom lineup with organic gameplay, it’s pretty bad as it stands and it’s something that if they don’t address it prior to full launch they’re likely going to have a huge dip in player base

Maybe not, but having limited time, a big load of challenges to do and a prize at the end to incentivise doing them does not, not motivate.

Furthermore, you can’t work on all at the same time, you get three, four if you upgrades to the premium version.

So, you could “passively” achieve a Challenge you have, but that’s not active.

It’s not built to be passively achieved, not in the slightest.

My son said he had one to get 5 grenade kills as a passenger I think!

Some of these really are tough.

Yep, feeling like this already with some of them. The time I’ve spent these past few days should have been more than enough to complete weekly challenges for a game. This isn’t healthy.

Yup! I have stopped playing altogether now. I have a challenge to get turret kills which happens to be broken AND I have a challenge to get 5 “Flapjack” medals. It’s just not worth the time and effort. Than we have $20 armor sets, coatings tied to armor, and literally EVERYTHING requires money…

What’s a Flapjack medal? Where you hijack a vehicle back?

No game should ever pressure you to spend money, that’s EXACTLY what Halo Infinite is designed to do at the moment.

I personally agree but I also believe that the whole battle pass thing in general I have never agreed with but if I am to have one instead of an organic system like Halo Reach I would rather it just be a normal experience system than do this challenge to get XP. Because then that way at least when I’m putting in time into the game I’m getting rewards not only when I do the challenge of, “Kill 5 dudes with your vision alone” type crap.

BF2042, as broken as it is right now, is more enjoyable than Infinite.
