In the recent Halo 5: Guardians Beta footage, trailers, interviews, and leaks, a huge amount of controversy has risen.
One of the main topics being “its not new, its a copy of COD.” All the areas discussed on this topic in mass amounts of
polls and forums discuss the similarities between the two games. Now I’m not here to repeat what other forums are going
crazy over, and are arguing about. I’m here to suggest what the feel, and movement of a spartan should be.
In most if not all cinematics, cut-scenes, lore, and other areas show or talk about, how a spartan (mostly Mr. 117 over here)
moves in battle, fights, and makes their way around the environment. Now I’m not going to make you bored with some list,
becasue I’m pretty sure any Halo fan, new or old, can picture or remember how (using Master Chief as an example)
moves, fights, etc. Now think how limited, you are in the campaign, and multilayer to do those things. Of course 343
could give you the option to run up to a Brute Chieftain, run up him, and knock him to the ground. Or run along a platform,
and do a somersault over the enemies with duel pistols and take out everything in a matter of seconds. But that would
require mass amounts of time, money, and resources. Not to mention, if we could do those things and more, the would be
ridiculously over powered. But, in Halo 5: Guardians multilayer, look at what they have done. Keeping in mind trying not
to be too OP. You can climb over ledges that you miss by that much, you can slam into the ground like a meteor,
you can slide into cover in the last second. Now I know some of you might be thinking that all this is too OP, too
much like Advanced Warfare, or other things. But all those things is what the beta is for. To test out these things and see
what works and what doesn’t. And possibly even add new things. 343 is oviously trying to stick to that ‘old school’
formula with new ways to fight and maneuver the environment. So give 343 a chance, becasue wouldn’t you like
to actually fight and move like a spartan from the cut scenes, and cinematics?
We need more ppl like you! I agree I made a thread way back on the halo 4 forums. Mentioned games like crisis who make you feel like a supersoldier (mind you you’re fighting human soldiers most of the time (I played #2)). But for halo it felt like gameplay wise the only time your felt like a supersoldier was flipping an elephant or ripping a turret of his pod.
Wha? Bu? Eh? … Tropical what’re you doing here!?
Well… I can’t play favorites and I need to stand my ground here…
Game play =/= canon. It doesn’t matter how Spartans are depicted in the lore, Halo may be beloved for it’s universe but it’s beloved for it’s game play too and those things are separate and shouldn’t effect each other. The way Spartans are depicted in the lore shouldn’t even be a consideration in regards to game play. It’s not about feeling like the character you’re playing as is a proper representation of how awesome Spartans are depicted in the canon, it’s about what’s going to be best for game play.
And honestly I don’t even understand a lot of this talk about Halo 5’s Spartans being more in tune with what true Spartans should play like. These abilities require the Thruster pack which is something that was introduced in Halo 4. The depiction of the Spartans and their capabilities in past media certainly didn’t depict them as hovering in the air ground pounding people and there’s absolutely no reason why a Spartan should have to lower their weapon in order to move faster, a super soldier should be able to move fast non-stop and fire while doing so, something that the past games represent much more accurately. But either way it’s irrelevant because it’s not about what makes sense in the canon it’s about what’s best for game play.
That’s not to say that these additions wont be bad for game play, you’re right when you say that we should give the beta a go first but these additions should be added to enhance the game play, not to better represent a canonical Spartan and we shouldn’t be justifying these additions because they supposedly better represent how a Spartan should play, the one and only way that they will ever be justified is that if they prove to enhance the game play and hopefully that will be the case but I don’t blame others for being skeptical.
Change game play for the sake of better game play. Changing it for any other reason shouldn’t even be a consideration.
P.S -Yoink!- man, I wish you would’ve come to me first about this.

I completely agree.
yes it IS sad that they require something that was introduced and not originally there

I disagree. Gameplay that conflicts with the story too much ruins immersion and the impact that the story can have. ODST was one such game, you felt too much like a Spartan in that game.
As for spartan speed, the spartans can certainly run and shoot. But the sprinting represented in game represents a “dead mans sprint” of which all effort is put into running. Even super soldiers would have to lower there weapon when trying to run at such speeds.
Gameplay is indeed important, but keeping gameplay and the story as close together without breaking anything is better than barring the two apart.
I feel fat supersoldier with this low jump.
