I’ve made it pretty clear that I want a canon toggle. There is no truth to this, and generally fans of Halo enjoy customising their Spartan.
My suggestion takes away nothing from anyone. Yours, is a terrible idea both in concept and in the frame of a FTP game that uses microtransactions.
Completely wrong.
Fractures are completely non-canon with the exception of coatings and visors which are planned to be cross-core entirely. You’re not making anyone happy, most of every person who is for the toggle is saying the same thing as myself and the others who would be comfortable with a canon toggle.
It wouldn’t be the best anything. The filter won’t be perfect, but the real issues like cat ears and VFX are obviously non-canon.
Which is the majority of what people don’t want to see.
A toggle that disables all cosmetics is not anything that anybody is advocating for beyond as a petty solution to avoiding a toggle at all. Barely anybody would use such a toggle. Including myself, one of the people most often involved in these topics.
My man, people came on here to complain that 343 tightened up Ranked matchmaking. They’ll come for anything.
Fractures are canon, but not our canon. They are a separate canon, which can be expanded upon. Similar to the TV show being canon, but not the same canon as the game.
You keep bringing up cat ears as non-canon examples. I must ask, what about them makes them non-canon? Armor effects I can understand, and Fractures I get the idea, but cat ears? Not sure why they couldn’t be. They attach to Mk VII, they are actually on the helmet, and work like all the other attachments.
I like canon stuff too, I don’t want crosscore for that reason. However, there are things which I can make exceptions for. For example, Haunted from Reach. It isn’t canon, but I don’t see anyone advocating for Reach to have a filter to remove Haunted. Same for Halo 3, Hayabusa shouldn’t be canon since it isn’t like the other helmets and completely breaks the otherwise “cohesive” art style. Not to mention the katana. Where are the topics advocating for a filter of those?
I’ve seen people pretty much just wanting cosmetics gone. I’m sure people would be fine with a all in/out toggle if it meant classic RvB came back.
More of going any further is nothing short of a waste of my time actually. More so since you seemingly only care about what you want, you don’t seem to care about anyone else’s opinions lol.
There are people who do genuinely think the a lot of the canon helmets are goofy as well, and would rather not see them. But then again, you don’t seem to care since it doesn’t align to your thoughts on the matter.
When I say non-canon, I mean to the Halo we’re actively discussing. I’m aware they are their own thing.
It’s common sense. Ask yourself, would 343 ever put it on a Spartan they’re introducing as a character? Beyond playing the most strained devils advocate the answer will be an easy yes or no.
The things I’ll make exceptions for are visors and coatings. Aside from that thankfully keeping fractures to themselves is the plan. Thankfully.
I don’t necessarily disagree but equally those are old games and I’m sure there were arguments about it back on the bungie forums.
Look at the poll I posted regarding this topic. Or any of the 3 current active threads…It’s 90% for a canon toggle or a ‘silly’ toggle.
On my poll, 30 people voted yes for a toggle. Only one person advocated for this kind of toggle and their reasoning was WILD.
The only thing I could honestly see them considering though is the particle effect stuff. Armor effects, Spawn/Slide/Specific tool effects, kill effects, ect and nothing else for a toggle option.
Canon is canon, noncanon is noncanon. Ultimately 343 would decide, but I heavily doubt they’d commit to stuff like cat ears being official canon. We know fractures aren’t canon
Well yeah, but we’re talking hypotheticals right now anyway.
Hypothetically if you were asked by 343i right now to determine what was considered “canon” and “noncanon” in order to implement a toggle, what would your criteria be for a “black and white” simple toggle system?
Agreed, but extrapolate further. Again I’m curious what your exact criteria would be and why in order to make a toggle simple and pleasing to most players.
Oh no that’s a side thing. I enjoy it because it’s really really cute and makes me feel better about my Spartan and more connected to them, since I am a 100% furry -Yoink!-. I’m very happy to have the option.
I just love the idea that someone gets mad about me being happy, but I’m trans so I’m VERY used to that.
As an artist, trust me. I care. The cat ears fit fine.
That’s one thing I’d like a toggle for, if only for others. I don’t want to overload anybody’s senses with bright lights and loud sounds out of nowhere, it’s hardly fair at all to do that to them.
I’m very happy for the art style being where it is now. I’m also fine with other explorations. I pogged out of my gourd when they added the DRENGR sets to Halo: MCC. I use that in conjunction with classic stuff for a REALLY cool look that I LOVE.
You clearly think very highly of yourself but I’ve never seen you make a good argument and, I don’t think I’m ever going to.
I gave my arguments and i think it was a good compromise because the stuff is still in Halo and most people would probably always see it. I haven’t seen an argument for forcing everybody to see it other than you like knowing it doesn’t fit and enjoy it when people recognize that simple fact. The only arguments for not having a toggle come from 343 and that is it might lower sales of certain items but from a player perspective there isn’t a convincing argument.
Oh boy, if your only argument is to say “No” then try to insult me for simply stating facts then you’re not going to win anyone over.
Can you give me one argument from a player perspective for not having a toggle other than you just like forcing people to see spartans that don’t match the art style?
And that’s the problem. A toggle would be nice, but where would 343 draw the lines? Would Clonely Bear stay in the canon filter? Would cat ears? What about Calling Card? The SUPERINTENDENT AI?
