IMO halo Waypoint should permit thread locking by the OP to avoid necroposts and prolonged topic fights. But that’s just my opinion.
Eh, it depends on the situation. I’m pretty sure you can ask moderators to lock them for you. Also, it can cause one-sided arguments where you vent out all your hate and lock the thread before someone talks some sense into you.
Necroposts can be locked by moderator on request, and I’m pretty sure they’ll shut down a lengthy flame war too. I don’t think that same power should be in the hands of everyone.
I don’t particularly agree because sometimes the topic can evolve into something the OP didn’t want, but it is still a productive conversation.
Hmmm interesting. I think. Like Sig’s, Spartans(plus other special ranks) could be trusted with the ability.
I mean people who been here long enough know the score here. And in theory can be trusted.
That said its not hard to ask a moderator to lock a thread. And unlock it upon request if required. The moderators dont bite and actually are quite friendly on the matter.
I’ve built and been part of forums that used this functionality, but it was really only ever useful in certain sections - like forums where people were creating their own topics for the development of something and they could close it if they stopped development, or if fully released what they were working on. Here, I don’t really see the benefit. As above, the probability of one-sided arguments becomes quite high and you can’t report posts on a locked topic. I think for the time being just reporting topics to a mod is the best way to do it, you can report your own posts too - just select “other” at the bottom if you want to add a message. Good suggestion though, nice to see posts like this looking for ways to improve Waypoint
