Feedback: Sidekick/Bulldog lack UNSC design cues

If there’s one major criticism I have about the weapons in Infinite, it’s that the Sidekick and Bulldog lack the design language/cues established in the franchise for UNSC weapons. They look hella generic, like something out of a current-day military shooter, and their designs also look out of place and inconsistent within the overall artstyle of Halo Infinite itself, and that’s a very bad thing. It lacks the Halo identity (defies both Bungie and 343 Halo design principles). They’re also too flatly textured and too round in shape.

They don’t have the kind of shape, color, or sense of bulk like in previous games. UNSC weapons have always had this somewhat sharp-edged, angular, and industrial/utilitarian look to them. They use lots of metallic silvers (or black/blued gunmetal in the case of the BR), with yellows, with blue/green sights or tac-coms, and so on.

Following a similar design to the ODST pistol, and working from there might work better for the Sidekick.

As for the shotgun, I think something with a similar shape to the Halo 2 Anniversary SP shotgun, that’s drum-fed instead of a tube, has a sleeker pump with vertical grip, and has a nicely visible ejection port at the top that’s slightly offset to one side to give a kind of callback to classic shotguns would be nice. Pic of the H2A shotgun. You can use your imagination to picture the feed tube shortened or removed/replaced, and a drum at the back of the pump/in front of the trigger guard.

Lastly, for the VK78, the general idea is alright, but I’d go for something a little more metallic, with different colored band on the side.

Anyway, hope someone can forward these suggestions to the art team.

As we look beyond launch, we have robust plans to continue evolving the game which will include further additions to Halo Infinite’s sandbox. We understand some players won’t be thrilled over the prospects of different pistols and shotguns but we encourage you to keep an open mind and we look forward to everyone getting hands-on perspective with these new weapons when the time comes.

we probably won’t have classic shotty/pistol starting out, but it sounds like 343 hasn’t thrown them in the garbage bin yet

I’m not talking about adding weapons. I’m talking about the designs/art direction of the current ones. They look completely out of place, even within the artstyle of everything else of the game.

Apologies. I do this weird thing were I skip over a bunch of stuff while I’m reading and only get the basic gist of the idea. Helps on tests, though. I actually meant that 343 might be bringing back the old design at some point without making entirely new weapons

It’s fine. Sorry if I came across as harsh. But yeah, I really hope they consider adjusting or re-doing those designs, because they’re really inconsistent with everything else. Looks like they don’t even belong in the same game as the BR and Assault Rifle models that are already in.
