FEEDBACK: Scorpion Tank controls

I know I’m not the only one who finds the controls for the Scorpion tank to be really weird, and the reason for that based on what I’ve found is turning the tank with your camera (only tried playing with mouse, might be different with controller) also turns the body.
I find it odd that turning the cannon also turn the entire body. Why??

It would also seem that the controls for the movement (such as WASD on PC) is based on the camera view, not the body of the tank, which means that when you turn to shoot an enemy while driving, the entire thing turns. This should not be the case in my opinion.

Turning the cannon should only be for aiming and not the entire vehicle, the most vulnerable part of your tank is the back, so being able to fully control where that is positioned is key, even if that means not turning your back sometimes because you’re shooting while moving forward to cover.

Just my two cents on it.

At least you get to see a scorpion! Ive seen maybe 2 since launch.

I had one scorpion turn like it had tank controlls. But most of the time in BTB or fiesta it just did not rotate seperate from the cannon at all.

It is, hopefully, a bug and will, again I hope, soon consistently behave like it should…

For whatever reason, in Infinite, they changed the controls to steer where your camera aims. Go to your settings and click that setting for assisted steering, so you can drive with both the move stick and aim stick like past Halo games. It should also work on Kbm. Couldn’t tolerate driving the ghost and all the other vehicles either without double stick steering. It didn’t feel right. They actually seem to have made the spawn timer for vehicles a few minutes sooner than the first week, because I kept posting about literally never seeing Scorpions, and now I see both tanks pretty often, and Wasps spawn a lot more too in BTB on that one map with the landing pads.

I can only tell ghost stories and fairy tales about the scorpion.

It’s out there somewhere. I’ve seen the creature with my very own eyes, twice.

I got in a tank for the fist time last night (the lack of availability of these heavy vehicles is another issue that 343 is being unreasonably stubborn on), it felt like I was fighting the controls the whole time. Movement controls and turret controls need to be completely separated.

I am on the Xbox and I had no problem operating the tank, the cannon and body didn’t turn together. I could have the cannon point to the left while the body was still going forward. So if I were you I would submit a ticket at halo support site.

At all times that I’ve secured the tank and have turned the turret ever so slightly, the W and S keys lose all bearing on reality. In one BTB game on Fracture I was unable to go forward (turret was at 2 oclock) and then on Behemoth during the Fiesta event, with similar positioning, I lose the ability to reverse. No idea why and I only got full control when I turned the gun forward, or moved the gun with the body while trying to steer.

The tank part of the tank is terrible and forces you to either drive or shoot, not allowing both. A full on throttle would be ideal, but if it needs to be kept simple please unhook it from whatever variable it’s referencing. W should be full speed ahead, S should be reverse, and A and D to rotate the vehicle, with mouse movements being unrelated; the tank body should only refer to itself. This should be the standard and not have to be achieved through special settings + trial & error.

I have had some hiccups in MCC with 3 and Reach, but they were rare exceptions compared to what we see in Infinite. I also expect that out of old titles built for the X360, not something with a dedicated PC client.

Yeah the tank controls are quite something…
You had way more control over the tanks on previous Halo games than here.

I got the Scorpion in Launch Site and tried to drive it through the small tunnel (section with the really low roof that you can barely drive under). Somehow I managed to wedge the tank sideways on the narrow path and I had no idea how to turn it around. And of course, trying to shoot my opponents simultaneously didn’t help the cause at all, just made the matter worse.

I agree with you that this should be improved upon. A and D should be to move the tanks body and look direction should not affect the tanks rotation at all.

Not sure how the controls work on controllers but I assume the same problem exists there that the tanks rotates where you look.

Scorpion drives like a school bus.
