Something that would be a cool feature to add to Infinite (and even MCC) for Team Slayer (or any game mode involving team battles) is the ability for players to use their own armor color (instead of being limited to only using Red and Blue). Perhaps adding a Blue or Red highlight around the player instead, indicating what team they are on (enemy or ally). This setting can be set by default but one can have the option to toggle back to the classic Red/Blue armor gameplay style if they wish without it affecting anyone else.
Like a glowing coloured outline? I dunno man I don’t really like when games do that, it just looks bad in my opinion. I think it’d be cool if they allowed you to pick different shades and accents at least instead of everyone being the exact same, but still easily recognizable of which team they’re on without an outline.

I think halo 3 did this well with the armor detail option.
I like the idea of custom color armors for team games, but not so much a glowing outline. I wouldn’t mind seeing a Rocket League type system for it.
For those who don’t know, when you make a car in Rocket League you have to choose the car’s colors for both red and blue teams. Each one has it’s own palette, Red also includes like yellow and orange, whereas the blue palette has purple and green.
But…why? it serves no purpose and could cause issues if the player blends in with the map palette.
Keeping it simple is the best option, this idea just seems to be a case “but it’s cool so yeah” which isn’t bad but it really need a purpose besides that.
I like the Rocket League system, I’ve thought having red options and blue options would be cool basically since the first season of Red Vs Blue.
This would never happen. I’m not sure if you remember player lighting in Halo 5, but because the lighting gave certain teams advantages, Pros requested that player lighting be disabled. Any variety in color would lead to some (admittedly mostly minute) advantages in certain maps.
Aside from player lighting, the custom color highlights in H5 I think were the best you’re gonna get. actual outlines would be rather obnoxious at times imo
Yeah. I don’t think players should be allowed to choose their own armour colours. Everyone will be wearing white on snow maps, green in jungle maps, purple on covie maps… and so on.
Have a coloured outline wouldn’t help that much. I imagine it would a jarring aesthetic (like when they outline players through walls in theatre modes).
But I do think we should be able to choose the colours of what we see on our own screen. It doesn’t matter if I want to see yellow vs purple while my team-mate is still using red vs blue. The only thing that would need to change is the naming convention of map areas / call outs etc.
It would be great for people who are colour blind.

I was going to post this approach as what I thought was an original idea. I guess I should have known it was in use somewhere… it does seem like a solid approach though!

The only issue I see with this, is there’s actually a lot more map balancing done around the team’s different colors than most people might think.
One example, Eden and iys remix map in H5 had their lighting changed after release, because 343 found that blue teams were winning significantly more often than red teams. After investigating kill/death heat maps, 343 found that there were two corners of the map that saw significant traffic during games, but blue blended in like crazy and had a huge advantage. The details are in a community update from sometime in 2015 if I remember right

Wouldn’t it make it easier for the artists though? They could colour and light the map to their original vision and leave it up to the player to choose their preference.
The game could offer a suggested combo of colours… which you can change at any time.
And of course, the game would remember your preference for the next time you play on that particular map.
I had an idea where in team games, while the primary armour colour would of course be that of the player’s team, the secondary and tertiary colours would be the ones belonging to the player. But with Halo Infinite eschewing the colour system in favour of their “Armour Coatings”, that idea is gone. And Halo 3 is the only game with an armour detail (essentially a tertiary colour) option, although I don’t know if that retains the player’s colour in team games. I wish it had a slightly more significant effect on the armour, though.
I like the idea of players being able to use different colors besides red and blue, but I think the teams should stick to a primary color each. Just like red vs blue, I think there needs to be yellow vs purple, green vs black, pink vs white, so on. Each team needs to be recognizable, otherwise you run into the issue where each member on a team have different colors and no one will be able to tell what they are shooting at. It would be a mess and you might just do FFA at that point.

It wouldn’t matter what combinations of colours other people had in the game. If I’m playing with enemies in purple - they will all be purple to me. I just keep killing purple. Death to purple!
My team mate may have their enemies as yellow. All the enemy is yellow to them. Their job is to just keep killing yellow.
The only confusion will come is if someone else starts yelling that purple has the sword. I won’t know if they have purple set for them as team-mates or the enemy (like I do). Colours can no longer call outs or used to name regions on the map.

How does anything you’re saying impact map balance? I’m saying that there is definitive proof and data behind team color effecting match outcomes. How does what your saying positively impact that?

Well I honestly do not like this idea that you see purple enemies while your teammate sees them yellow or whatever color other than purple. I did not take that into account on my post.

Why does it matter what colour people see on their screens. As long as you know which colour is the enemy. Way better for colour blind players (my son for example - struggles with red enemies).

Simply because you control what colours you see.
You set whatever colour works best for you against the palette of the map. There are no longer any clashes (such as being forced to play vs Blue when the map has blue regions).
Problem solved.
Highlighting players with their team color like in Gears of War would look nice, but might not be as perfect in Halo. A good idea would be to have a variety of color patterns, within a color set for each team.
Halo Infinite is going to be based on colored shaders that will give different patterns. These Shaders could be used to give different color patterns to each player, using colors for each team (Red: Red, Orange, Yellow; Blue: Blue, Aqua, Cyan).

What I’m saying is, balance wise, that’s super exploitable. Why wouldn’t a player just set it so the other team is going to stand out like crazy against the map aesthetic every time? Ie set yellow enemies on blue-hued map.
Letting players have control of that reduces the devs ability to perform some aspects of map balancing
