Feedback on the Technical Preview so far

Some of my personal feedback on the Technical Preview so far (this is by no mean a comprehensive list, and I’ve been fairly busy with my personal life).

  • Sprinting. Specifically the weird lines around the sprinting spartan. Please get rid of them, or enable it so that they disappear when your spartan turns. Lord knows how many times I thought I was being shot at because I had these lines going around my HUD at random angles. We are not titans from Destiny, we don’t need those lines to indicate that we’re sprinting. Also it feels a touch clunky, but possibly on par with the reach sprint. I think that’s because I’ve been playing games like Apex and Destiny, where sprinting feels like you’re moving quickly. - Bots. I love the increase in difficulty of the bots! I’ve seen many a twitter thread about people saying they’re “too hard” but I am an average game at best and I was still stomping them. Challenging, not impossible. I can only imagine you’ve got one more level of bots coming up (spartan level bots?!) that will challenge us further. - The battle pass. While I can understand the reasoning behind instituting a battle pass, I personally am getting really tired of seeing these in my games, but that’s personal opinion. Master Chief Collection did this really well, but prior to the purchase of it in the Tech Preview, I could see that this aspect needs refining before Infinite comes out. It’s just frustrating that I know I’m going to be spending $90+ on this game, only to have to pay for a battle pass on top of that. Maybe this could be mitigated by the first one being free? Maybe a preorder bonus? There’s no easy answer to this, and I know that microtransactions keep free to play projects going.Overall final views: I’m enjoying the game thoroughly so far. Please no BR mode, but absolutely please bring back the PvPvE from Halo 5’s game modes. It added an extra layer of complexity and was hands down my favourite mode to play back in the day, and I feel it would play really well to people earning rewards for the battle pass.

I think they said you can remove this in settings, or it will be a feature down the road.

  • Sprinting Lines: These can be turned off in settings, it’s a visual note and optional. - Battle Pass: Optional, never expire, cosmetic only.

My thoughts on the battle pass: I despise when devs lock their own cosmetic content behind expiration dates. Someone worked really hard to make that are you’re going to lock it away forever because you’ll make extra cash in the short term? I don’t have the time or energy to play every game year round. I’ve completely dropped games that do this because I return only to see all these things I am not allowed to acquire because I didn’t play the game last weekend. It’s infuriating, frankly, and needs to stop.

Infinite’s battle passes never expiring essentially makes it not a battle pass anymore. Just dlc cosmetics that you can buy and unlock by playing whenever you feel like, not just during some manipulative time window. It’s a step in the right direction 100%. That, combined with the ability to swap challenges, makes it the only battle pass I will actually bother completing. Hopefully Infinite will start a new trend for battle passes going forward. Vote with your wallets everyone!

Ah yknow I completely fubar’d because I didn’t check to see if I could turn them off in settings. That’s a big my bad on me!

The fact that the battle passes never expire doesn’t stop them from making me tired of seeing them. They’re always optional, yes, but man I miss the days of Halo Reach when it felt like an achievement to earn some of those cosmetics - because it was literally that, achievement grinds. I don’t know if 343 plan on implementing some of those, but I hope so. It’d be nice for our achievement hunters out there.

While I agree its absolutely a trend in the right direction, you do have to consider we’re currently in a state of economic downturn, where people will be less likely to spend the money. It’s hard, because 343 is one of the few companies I will literally scrounge the coins together to pay for come game release. 343’s PC release of the MCC alone showed that they are catering to a much broader socioeconomic range than other high end companies cough cough craptivision.

I guess time will only tell with the actual costs, which we don’t know yet xD
