FEEDBACK on Halo Infinite MP Beta

Hi guys! It’s CATpt93TAC here, first time on this new Halo Waypoint.

I’m really vocal on Twitter about Halo, but decided this was probably the best way to gather my feedback so far and hopefully get 343 to read it.

SEASONS AND BATTLE PASS
I think the team is quite aware, by now, of the complains about progression of the BattlePass, the type of challenges we need to pursue, and a few other things. I have my own thoughts, and it might be the same as some, you never know if it could be useful!


1. PROGRESSION
Yeah, we all know, progression is super slow. I, personally, am a big fan of the Halo MCC method with Challenges. Definitely, each game should award a certain XP, but I also think each win should award another amount. The more you win games, the more you earn. The more you play objective and kill, the more you earn.

:thinking: Some XP ideas:

  • per game
  • extra per win
  • per kills
  • per objective medals
  • extra per mythic medals

2. CHALLENGES
Definitely need to be less specific or so centered on luck, or at least have Challenges similar to the ones on MCC.

:thinking: The likes of:

  • Complete X number of PvP games
  • Complete X number of campaigns on Y difficulty
  • Earn X number of kills in Matchmaking
  • Complete X number of Custom Games (sometimes people like to play a lot of FFA or Slayer to practice in Private Matches. They should earn a bit too, even if less in quantity comparing to a regular Matchmaking Game)
  • Earn X number of kills on PvE modes
  • Complete X number of Weekly Challenges
  • Win X number of Y type of games
    . . .

In MCC, I also like that some rewards from the Seasons can be given to people that complete a certain number of specific challenges. This could be a good alternative to those fans that absolutely love Halo and deserve to show off what they earned with hard work, and can’t just spend with MTX.


3. MICROTRANSACTIONS
This is something I don’t see being approached a lot, especially the part I believe it’s the most important: 343 Industries made us believe from day one that Halo Infinite would let players earn or pay for their cosmetics.

We were led to believe any fan with no possibilities to spend money could earn the same things. Their wording was not right, and they should have done a better job at clarifying what they meant, or they should deliver what was first intended.

It’s the first time Halo has a Free-To-Play multiplayer, and that brings other challenges, yes, but this was only announced in July 2020, at the time, only a few months until release. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I believe that by then, we all were aware that the game would have customization options on Multiplayer. Considering we were expecting a paid experience, I’m sure most hoped for something like Halo Reach and Halo MCC, where you EARN your cosmetics.

Most stuff are earned through playing + paying or just really paying, with the Battle Pass Premium.

We know Free-to-Play experiences require money from other sources. I think it would be quite possible to make everyone happy if 343 kept that promise and let players EARN it. Let them earn credits to unlock the things in Battle Passes. Players willing to spend money will always be able to earn these faster, and that’s ok. Give the fans OPTIONS.

:thinking: Two options I can think of, though to me the first one is the most obvious and easier.

  • Award CR to fans via Challenges and other feats
    (so they can get the same rewards from every Battle Pass without paying via MTX).
  • Allow Campaign purchasers to have automatic access to every reward unlocked via Battle Passes, or at least a nice big discount. It is what we would have, mostly, if we bought the game at 70$ with campaign and multiplayer…
    (so you can still bring Halo to new players with Free-to-Play Multiplayer, without disrespecting the long run fans that were literally tricked, as probably MANY won’t even buy the Campaign, or even play it if it wasn’t for Game Pass).

Seems obvious to me that certain partnerships, collabs and HCS teams customization options would continue to be paid and extra, that’s why I only mentioned the Battle Pass rewards in these options.


4. EVENTS
I absolutely LOVE that the Events seem to reward players with no need to resource to MTX.

:thinking: But:

  • Challenges need to be better, like what I pointed in topic 2.
  • Having to wait to complete Weekly Challenges before another Event Challenge shows, it’s just stupid. Maybe Event Challenges should never interfere with the normal ones and be in a separate place.
  • I definitely don’t agree with levels being locked before the next weeks. People have their own paces. Let players unlock all they can each time the Event comes back for another week. Don’t hold people!

CUSTOMIZATION
Overall, the team did a GREAT job with the things we can do. I just LOVE it. There are a few things, though that I think need changing, like the limitation of armor cores, and others I just leave as suggestions, I don’t know, I wonder around, pardon me!

1. ARMOR CORES
What the hell. We were promised we could basically mix and match anything. Let us! Maybe keep the possibility to have 3 sets to choose from with mixes we made.


2. EMBLEMS
It would be cool to be able to adjust the position of these symbols in weapons to create cool stuff. I dunno.


3. PALETTES
Kinda prefer the Halo MCC ones :stuck_out_tongue:


4. AIs
Suggestions for the future:

  • YapYap
  • Sgt. Johnson
  • 343 Guilty Spark
  • Dr. Halsey (being her cynical self like “If you spent more time training your aim, perhaps you could give use to my Mjölnir armor…” or a reference to Jorge in Reach “What have you done to my armor…?”)
  • Spartan Buck
  • Chef Gordon Ramsay (I’m sorry, I think it would be funny “What was that shot, you pathetic walking brick?” “Oh… bloody hell…”)

5. OTHER REWARDS
It would be nice to provide other, exclusive, free rewards to players who complete Achievements (remember the Vidmaster Challenges that gave you 0G but usually had other in-game rewards?), or those that spend a X amount of time playing, or played previous games! Sort of like Forza, when it gives cars to players that played previous games. The possibilities are enormous.


MODES AND OTHERS
I know this is yet a Beta, so this concerns the future, near or looong term.

1. HEAVY VEHICLES
I get the thing with the Pelicans, but please, I can’t play BTB maps with NO heavy vehicles. Where are they? They spawn so late in a game and only when they happen to. Most of the times there’s no Scorpion or Wraith.


2. SEPERATE SLAYER FROM OBJECTIVES
Sometimes we like to play Slayer, sometimes we’re after objectives. Simple.
Also, why not a custom search like in Halo MCC?


3. GAME MODES AND MATCHMAKING
Yeah, this seems obvious to me, but hope that at launch a few more modes are added like:

  • SWAT
  • BTB Heavies (this could solve the lack of heavies on BTB…)
  • Team Slayer
  • Team Objective (plus, where’s Assault or Stockpile?)

And later, of course:

  • Grifball
  • Infection
  • Team Snipers
  • KOTH (I mean… Strongholds is just not the same, and a Halo classic should be there)
  • Ricochet (SERIOUSLY, playing Oddball in Halo Infinite reminded me of Ricochet and how much that would be cool to play again!)
  • Firefight (:eyes:)

When Forge is added, and I imagine a Custom Games Browser after the community has made a few maps, we can create a session with more than 3 matches to rotate. Or just create a list and play it. Give us 50 spots if we need. GAMENIGHTS ARE FUN :love_you_gesture:


4. OTHERS

  • Flag and Ball holders need to be able to kill with one hit. They are vulnerable already, they should be able to defend without dropping it.
  • Plasma Pistol seems. . . weak. Since it lost the ability to freeze vehicles, it seems pointless now. Even for a “noob combo” seems to take a while to charge, or is it me?
  • Bring back Shotgun :pray:
  • Fiesta is cool, but some weapons are just pointless there. And why does it seems sometimes that an entire team spawns with Rockets and the other with Plasma Pistols and Pistol?
  • I’m sorry, at this point it would change it completely, and I’m getting used to it, but that Sprint kills me. To Sprint or not to Sprint it’s basically the same. :unamused:

This is all I recall now. The game evolved a lot since the Flights. It has a wonderful sandbox, great weapon balance overall, beautiful graphics. I just think there are a few key things to solve before people lose interest, a few other things to perhaps re-think, and this will be the best MP in a decade. I mean… It’s such an incredible work!
(By the way, that addition to Theater Mode with the parts with kills and deaths is SO helpfull. THANK YOU! :green_heart:)

All I can think of now is the campaign. I dream I play it since last year. Like… literally dream. :sweat_smile: It’s the most important part to me. So far I’m loving 343’s work and passion. I’m so grateful for everything.

You guys are amazing, you inspire my art, and I hope your launch surpasses all expectations!

I didnt know I wanted a gordon ramsey AI… but I sure as hell knew I wanted either a grunt or an elite voiced AI. those old voicelines from 2 and 3 were sooo good.
