Halo 4 multiplayer could be one of the greatest, but in its current state, there are a couple of things that hold it back. But that is just my point of view, based on my personal experience.
- Level design
- Instant respawn
- X mark when you hit people
- The infamous radar
- Lack of emphasis on headshots and too much on being 2 vs 1
- Too generic melee attack that doesn’t require much skills
- Draw kills
- Extremely annoying auto-aim that sticks to the wrong target all the time and that just ends up killing you
- BR and flinching (crosshair goes up)
Level design
The maps in Halo 4 are too chaotic and opened. When in some maps, players can just camp at the center to respawn kill everyone else, in others there might just be a corridor with 5 entrances that makes it impossible to survive, no matter how good you are. Crysis 2 had the exact same problem.
In Big Team Battle, the maps suffer from the same problem and that just reminds me of the Halo 3 maps. What happened with maps such as Headlong, Terminal or Turf that offered isolated areas and interesting layouts for squad-based firefights?
Since Halo 3, the BTB map just lost their touch.
Instant respawn and kill cam
The instant respawn totally breaks the gameflow of the game, period. Kill cam destroys the purpose of a competitive multiplayer and to take position in the map. Use your skill to spot people, no other valuable options. Kill cam is casual, shouldn’t be there.
X mark when you hit people
Players should be able to tell by the blood being spilled out or the energy shield that explodes or the death of his opponent that he actually hit his target. In no case there should be a X mark on the screen and especially not with grenades that allow the player to detect enemies where normally they can’t see them.
It’ chaotic, casual, spoon fed, non-sense and doesn’t reward good players.
The infamous radar
The existence of the radar in Halo prevents players from using their brain, taking advantage of the map, the shortcuts and also from performing as many backstabs as they should in a match. Not only it makes flanking useless, but it also push people to spam grenades while they normally wouldn’t.
The radar prevents Halo 4 from reaching its full potential as a shooter game and I feel sad for whoever level design the map…
Lack of emphasis on headshots and too much on being 2 vs 1
In Halo 4, to perform headshots doesn’t make a difference, unless the energy shield is down. That doesn’t reward precision, it prevents players being able to deal with multiple opponents at once and it over-encourages teamplay, because in the end… the only thing that actually matters in Halo since Halo 2 is to be 2 vs 1 all the time.
That’s just prehistoric and Halo 4 should finally allow pistols, DMR, BR, etc. to inflict more damage on headshots. Not only the game would be more interesting to play, but it would also be more fair… more challenging, more fun.
I don’t get why sniper rifles are like the only weapons to behave properly in H4, a game released in 2012.
Too generic melee attack that doesn’t require much skills
Again, 1vs1 is very chaotic when it comes to melee attacks. Again, headshots (with melee) should inflict more damage and that would help the CQC situations to feel more rewarding rather than just random or chaotic.
Draw kills
Those are damn too frequent when two people are facing each others with DMR. Somehwere, there is something terribly wrong in the network code…
Extremely annoying auto-aim that sticks to the wrong target all the time and that just ends up killing you
Self-explanatory. An option to turn it OFF entirely, for whoever wants to play without it should be added at least.
It’s Halo 4… I hardly understand why there still isn’t an option to turn it off yet or why you guys are forcing it on whoever doesn’t feel the need to play with it ON. It’s a lack of respect.
The auto-aim is notably annoying when players use DMR or play Team SWAT.
BR and flinching (crosshair goes up)
It really isn’t necessary, it is overpowered and annoying. It really should not be there and just pushes people to camp. It’s just like in Call of Duty and that really isn’t a good thing.
