Everybody is talking about the battle pass but I think this problem is really important and 343 should be aware of it
When infinite came out I played 10 ranked matches in the open/crossplay playlist and I got ranked diamond 1, the matches were enjoyable and balanced, I won some, lost others, I don’t remember exactly but it was 50/50 more or less.
In the last 2 days I played more matches, I’m still diamond 1 but I won 8 more matches and lost 24. Yes 24
!
And my rank went up, I’m almost diamond 2
Another thing that worries me is that I’ve been matched with a 1900+ and 1800+ onyx players several times, this a very large rank gap, of course I’m not as experienced as them. The game just came out, there should be enough people to fill an all-diamond lobby
Why isn’t my rank going down like in every other FPS on the planet with a ranking system?
And the funny thing is that I won 1 of those matches because one guy on the enemy team crashed, another match I won ended 50-49 so it could have gone either way ( we got a lucky kill)
In my entire life playing games I have never seen a unbalanced amount of losses like this , I thought ranked would be more balanced than social but it is exactly the opposite from my experience, I have more fun in social
I thought that in skill based matchmaking people are supposed to have a KD near 1 and a win rate near 50%… so my kd is definitely near 1 but my win% is extremely low at 25%
I don’t think I’m gonna play ranked any longer until the system is changed, maybe I’ll try the solo/ duo playlist but I’m not sure, it’s a shame because I love Br starts
The ranked system certainly needs work I’ll give them that. As it is right now, I think it’s extremely generous and forgiving when it comes to assigning ranks. I don’t think the balance is there right now because since I finished placements I haven’t been able to win a game since, with or without a team. It should not be designed like this and it NEEDS to be fair, but it can’t too forgiving, nor too punishing. I don’t feel very motivated to play ranked at all in its current state, which is a shame because at its best, I really like the gameplay it brings.

Apparently ranking down is not yet implemented in the beta lol. However ranking up is very inconsistent as well. Apparently win or lose doesn’t matter but even on objective games K/D is the most important factor for ranking up.
For example I had a game of oddball on plat 6 with a high diamond lobby. We won with me having 3 minutes of ball time (and a 4-9 KD) and the rest mostly holding off attackers. My team gained about half a rank up and mine didn’t even move.
I could understand if the game made a judgement call on me not belonging in a high diamond game and some anti boosting mechanism is active, but I was solo queuing so I have no influence being placed in that game.
I guess ranked at the moment is just a testing ground and they will reset everything after release anyway but it’s still odd that we can all grind to onyx if you just put in the time (I’ve faced some horrible onyx players who really don’t belong there).

That’s a big problem, the game should have rewarded you for holding the ball, instead you get penalized… it worries me that 343 isn’t talking about the ranking system at all. Let’s hope they fix it when the full game releases

If the game’s ranking system is truly working like you said, then it’s worse than I imagined. Plus, if players know that they’ll just opt for kills most of the time instead of obj. Infinite is fun but it’s a bigger hot mess than I imagined.
