Feedback for Halo Infinite Flight test

(Based on Series X Ver.)

  • All weapons excluding sniper, plasma carbine, commando feel great. (Will go into details for excluded weapons later)

  • Movement feels good (a combination of halo 4&5 without the boosters)

  • Audio bugs and screen flashing on all performance modes.

-Cant tell difference between performance & quality mode.

  • FOV increase effects size of reticle (should have option to increase or decrease reticle size regardless of FOV if possible.)

  • As for excluded weapons. New sniper zoom feels too zoomed in and reticle is too big, should revert back to previous halo sniper reticles imo. Pulse Carbine needs a buff, it is completely outclassed by BR. Commando needs a slight recoil reduction and it would be perfect.

-Ai is pretty bad

This is all I have for now, despite flaws I’m really enjoying game. Hope we get pvp, more maps, and equipment to try out later.

Thanks for the feedback. I did not get in on this flight, but I’m watching streams and reading to see what I can expect. Thanks again!

[Steam - PC Version]

I agree with you on the weapons the spiker is a bit weird to fire though but unsure if it was game lag or not used to the weapon.

Another point I agree with you on the movement feels good but could be a lot better.

Audio has been perfectly fine on pc might just be a xbox thing have you tried using a headset through the controller?

Don’t have these options but the ones that are there are decent and fast besides 1 that pisses me off to no end open mic instead of push to talk being the default like seriously have you not learned from any other shooter out there on pc?

The zoom system as a whole feels more like it was just duct taped onto stuff and super loose.

Honestly just tried a few rounds of it on PC and the AI it just feels like seal clubbing its just so bad I know its a preview but come on really?

I have been a halo fan for a long time and just wanted to share my views on this game but I can’t reccomend playing this flight I might give it another go tomorrow but to me it just feels kind of boring there is no challenge and all the weapons just feel like we want to be older halo but edgy, plus I can always -Yoink!- see the microtransactions its a preview and we are already seeing the stuff like are you -Yoink!- serious!

  • Weapon sound effects are weak. Kinda hard to explain but when you pick up a weapon and rack the bolt, reload a magazine, and so on its either too quiet or too soft. Firing sounds however are okay…still more a fan of the classic sounds like the H2/3 BR, the H1 AR, and so on. Just beef up the sounds and it’ll be fine - Might be just me but I’m really having a hell of a time finding my “sweet spot” in aiming sensitivities, deadzones, and such. It either feels too loose, or too sluggish. On the flip side I can jump into other Halos like Reach, 3, and even 5 with little issue. Perhaps some selectable presets to make it closer to the older games? - Lots of flickering and flashing with the screen when going through menus. - Recoil seems a bit high for some weapons, especially when you pulse the trigger.

*Disclaimer: I am not a 343 employee but a 20 year Halo vet.*It has been communicated that the difficulty of the bots will be increased daily and we are currently fighting ‘Marine’ difficulty (e.g. Easy). In no way can you critique the AI and it’s scaling right now, especially when this difficulty of AI is meant to be used for newer people to Halo. Yes, they’re dumb but they are more than capable of killing someone who underestimates them using the same tactics a player would. HELPFUL feedback would be something like:

‘AI has been observed to have trouble with pathing in certain areas of the map or clustering together without discernable reason.’

It was also communicated that the feature set you are currently testing is specifically designed to provide data to teams in charge of AI, storefront functionality (e.g. Microtransactions), UI/UX and the like. This was planned. It was communicated. I’m really at a loss as to why you’re so appalled by this revelation.

It’s fine if you don’t have the mindset to participate in Technical Previews, but this has been explicitly sold as a way of providing feedback and testing systems. It seems that you are unwilling or unable to be helpful in that regard. I invite you to keep playing and hope that you do. But please provide actual concrete feedback so we can actually help this game improve and have a stable launch.

Thanks.

I have loved a lot of the gameplay so far of Halo Infinite so far with the bot matches.
I think so far my biggest issue is how points are distributed for the battle pass. ESPECIALLY when the points didn’t scale with the tasks. like 100 points for 1 match to 100 points for 2 matches to 100 points for 3 matches to how many points for 4 matches? 100 points. Please at least at some more points for more work. It really frustrated me that there was nothing gained for having more points at the end of the game. No XP, or battle points, or challenges to go for once I finished my challenges in a few games. I’m sure we’ll see more in the finished game but this current system made me very cautious of the philosophy of how much I’m expect to play if I don’t want to spend a lot of money or worse, what I won’t have access to at all if I choose not to spend a lot of money.

Starting with the more technical side, I really appreciate all the work to make the game more inclusive with controller possibilities and UI changes have been a welcome change to my friend who is color blind. allowing fireteam/lobby disabling helps with unnecessary muting from some past games. The only addition I would love to see added would be more options for HUD visibility as currently, it takes away everything where I would either an itemized list to turn on/off as needed or with hud elements appearing as used (ammo count when shooting, heath when damaged, or aim reticle when shooting).

Also starting the match with 4 Spartans doing a pose is a bold move with how much the community hated the similar aesthetic of Halo 5’s mode that did that. But whatever you do, don’t fix (the glitch?) the Spartan being dead in that opening shot if the left before the game started. It’s the funniest thing every time and does not require fixing. The end of a lot of games stated I was disconnected from the game, but I received my points so I’m not sure why that happened. Also, most of the bots go the exact same way every time which makes the beginning of bot matches pretty same-y, I’d recommend adjusting AI to have more variety in starting paths so they wouldn’t get hit by a couple of easy grenades at the beginning of every match. Otherwise, I felt they were fairly balanced. A fair challenge but doesn’t feel like fighting aimbots.

I wish there was more emphasis on futurology, alien planets/cultures, and Halo iconography in the map design. So far the 3 main maps shown off have felt more like modern FPS’ than the world of Halo, and for a franchise that has so many interesting worlds and locations to explore. I am hoping for more unique locations in the base game, because most of the maps could have been levels for any other game and if I didn’t see the Spartans or weapons that still shouldn’t be the case.

Most of the weapons feel great. Love the changes to grenade throwing/Rocket Launcher/Shotgun, the Battle Rifle is just pure Halo 2 fun, the AR/Pistol both feel perfect for their roles as starting guns. Needlers is fun, Gravity Hammer feels slower but more powerful, and the new guns feel like they’ll take some time to perfect and add a lot to the sandbox. Movement is fun, and the map layout feels built for the mechanics of clambering and grappling hooks, which are also a lot of fun. Please please please if grappling hooks have a limit in multiplayer matches, that’s fine, but let us turn that off for custom games because I just want to add them to every custom game. I think since Halo 3 the franchise has been trying to perfect that item slot and this game does it well, just add a jetpack and I think this would beat out every other Halo in that department.

  • Really enjoying all of the maps. All are the right size with oppertunities for verticallity - Weapons are really nice to use. I feel the pc could use a litte bit of a auto aim. I was spraying all over the place. - Audio most of the time was good excepet I had frequent bugs where all all audio channels would go down by about 10db except for all the grunting which was at full volume. - I don’t understand the color sceme during the kill screen. Why is there pink and red on the enemy players name. These colors are not anywhere else on that screen

Over all from my experience the gameplay feels really good and gun play feels really good. I would say the sniper feels a tad bit more difficult to use but that’s not a bad thing. also the assault riffle and sidekick feel really good to use. the covenant weapons in general feel really good but one nit pick is that the needler doesn’t have a big explosion like needlers in older games. Also its kind of weird that when you kill someone with melee in the game they just fly off but killing with the gravity hammer sends them back like two feet.

The bots felt really fun to fight against and definitely provided a good challenge. I honestly wouldn’t mind playing bot slayer more often I will say though that sometimes they will just stand in place and do nothing and other times they will be strafing like crazy and headshot you from across the map. overall though the bots are fun to play against

Customization for your character looks good but I feel like the armor coatings should be worked on to be that instead of it just being stuck with the colors for that coating, you can change the coolers for it. that way if you want to use the karaba sirocco I could keep it how it looks or change the the different colors in it to make it my own version of it. also I feel like for the prosthetics that you can attach there should be different arm and leg prosthetics like maybe an arm prosthetic that looks covenant made or forerunner made. just to get creative with the look of it. Also I feel like it would be better if the chest attachments could change colors to fit the armor coating you are using because with some coatings it just looks weird and looks like it doesn’t fit well. I also hope that flaming head and back attachments can be added like in mcc and also adding an option to change the skin suit under the armor. Also I hope that elites will be playable at some point in the future and I just have a little hope for that especially since in mcc they are starting to get a little bit more of a spot light.

the battle pass and the store are fine from what I saw but for matches I feel like you should earn xp towards the battle pass for just completing matches rather it 50 or 25xp per match just so that way I know if like even though I completed all of the weekly challenges I can still earn something from playing matches. also it would be great if I could stack xp boosters instead of having to renew it ever 30 minutes.

Keyboard for weapons swapping still janky. Needs to be a switch weapons bind like currently and then 2 additional options for weapon 1 and weapon 2 to assign separately for scroll up and scroll down. So that way it only registers the input once.

I thought the game was pretty solid, but here are some things I noticed.

  • Team interaction: Teammates have no collision with each other and there is no friendly fire. This is a big deal to me because of all of the cool boosts you could do in the older games. The new advanced movement stuff would make boosting less useful, but why not include it anyway. It’s just another fun part of halo. Also I like team killing my friends we always have fun with that. Especially since it was really hard back in the day with no aim assist on teammates.

  • Outlines - I very much dislike the friend or foe system. It’s inconsistent and sometimes outlines don’t show up at all. The outline is so bright I can’t tell what armor anyone is wearing or what coating they’re using, rendering the system pointless. I think they should allow for a toggle for classic red vs blue and replace the harsh outlines with boosted player contrast like in CS.

  • Physics: Physics objects on the maps behave weirdly and just kind of phase through you. It would be nice to be able to splatter people with them still. On top of that the gravity hammer is very boring and doesn’t affect physics much at all. It seems like there are only a few specific instances where it actually sends people flying, which is very disappointing. If the gravity hammer can’t flip vehicles I will be devastated :,(

  • Equipment: The equipment is pretty hit or miss so far. We have the awesome grappleshot and drop wall, but then we have the very boring threat sensor. I’m sure later there will be more team based/neutral equipment, but for now there really isn’t much.

  • Progression: I really dislike the battle pass. Even more than that I dislike how you progress it. If it’s going to be a battle pass it should be a copy paste of MCC’s. Battle passes are linear and boring, but the one in MCC at least has a little bit of choice. I’m interested to see what they do with the store though.

  • Customization: I don’t care a whole lot about cosmetics in other games, but in halo customization has always been special. I think armor coatings take away from that a little bit. It’s not the end of the world and I know they can’t change that now. The armor looks awesome though.

  • Guns: The sniper feels bad to use and the gravity hammer is boring. Clunky does not equal hard. The plasma pistol has terrible hit registration. Sometimes my charged shots will just pass through enemies. Needler supercombines are underwhelming. Pretty much just a pink flash. No big crunchy explosion. I think the assault rifle and the needler are a little too strong, but I won’t care that much if they stay like this. Everything else feels fantastic. I love the sidekick so much.

  • Graphics: BLOOD BLOOD BLOOD. I need blood in my halo games. Ever since I smacked dead bodies in CE until the game locked up I’ve wanted more and more blood. I already think that there will most likely be flood in the game (speculation. I haven’t been spoiled), so why not just go the extra mile and add human blood too? Please stop worrying about the rating and #MakeHaloGruesomeAgain. Aside from the blood, things look pretty good. A little cartoony, but I don’t mind that much and I think blood would solve that problem. The explosions are the main issue with that though. They look straight out of cartoons. I guess it’s better to mask it like this than to just make them look like the underwhelming farts in halo 4. It makes grenades much less satisfying and impactful.

Hi, finally I can make my comments about the flight tech

  • I think the BR is a little weak, it could be more powerful
  • Some color glitches during battles
  • Unpopular opinion: Did not like the Bulldog… as a shotgun it lacks power
  • Really enjoyed the shield´s color
  • Love the simplicity of the battle dynamics… It is Halo, we don´t need to look like another FPS, just please add assassinations…
  • Amazing bot´s behavior… it is Cortana´s level (in ODST mode…)
  • Didn´t spend time in the customization section… sorry about that

Please invite me for the next test!

9/24 flight test only using 30% gpu 3060ti around 125fps please optimize, gun sounds 5ft away sounded like across the map.

MSI Afterburner issues while running 25fps less, than off.
TTK can be faster. PRO tip guns are meh.

I’ve played a couple hours, here’s my feedback so far:

  • Gravity Hammer feels great, but it takes too long to hit the ground from the moment you click mouse 1 - I’ve barely used the Battle Rifle. The fire rate is too low compared to previous games. Even the Sidekick feels more like a preferrable precision weapon - I don’t feel the Pulse Carbine belongs in the game. None of the Banished/Covenant weapons feel like the classics. I like most, but the Pulse Carbine is very underwhelming - The game needs an option to disable AIs, or offer one that has the announcer’s voice. I’m not a fan of them, and although I use BUTLR because he feels the least annoying, I’d still rather do without them - Multiplayer queues feel unclear. I don’t know when I’m in a lobby waiting for a match of just in the main menu - There should be an option to open customization while in a multiplayer queue, much like in MCC. If I want to swap a piece of armor while we’re looking fot a match I shouldn’t have to leave my friends hanging. Lobbies being so unclear don’t help in this regard

I cant get mouse and keyboard to work on xbox. There seems to be a limit to where I can look around using mouse. Have you guys encountered this bug? have you found any fix?

Halo Infinite Flight Notes: (9/24 - 9/26)
(Playing on Series X, 4K 60, Dolby Vision for Gaming enable)

Note: These notes are coming from a Halo - Halo 5 player (Including Reach & ODST)

Battle Pass:

  • Unlocking shoulder armor seems tedious when you have to unlock it per arm. Should unlock the set like leg armor unlocks.
    Weapons:

  • Needler seems to have a little less of a lock-on functionality. Makes it feel less effective than past games. - Needler does not have that satisfying “BOOM” effect it used to in regards to visuals and sound. Explosions and sound effects seem more muted than in past games, making it less fun and satisfying when getting kills. - Grappleshot + Gravity Hammer melee attack is slower and less effective when compared to using the Grappleshot in combination with other weapons. This attack plays the same animation as the Gravity hammer (RT) attack, but without using any ammunition (So no one-hit kill, which is fine, but…) It feels very awkward and unsatisfying and seems to put the player at a disadvantage. I suggest a different/quicker animation that hits with the hilt of the hammer, like when you melee with the Flag. - Skewer has no “knockback” effect when hitting enemy players. It feels unsatisfying and unrealistic, because we can see that it does knock and flip over vehicles that are several times heavier than any spartan. - Skewer does not hit multiple enemies when they happen to be lined up in a row. For a sniper weapon that shoots a giant nail, you would expect it to go through at least 2 enemies. Plus, it would be extremely satisfying and rewarding when a player can accomplish a feat like that.
    Bugs:

  • Bazaar map displays a flickering bug. This can mostly be seen during the map preview cinematic when starting a match and when scrolling up and down the Settings menu options. It can also be noticed during gameplay, but happens much less frequently.

Played on Xbox Series X, running at 1440p 120, VRR

Had a lot of fun play-testing the whole weekend. It feels pretty good. I’m liking the maps and customizations. The Fret AI made me laugh, especially when he gagged. My favorite thing to do in Bazaar is use the grapple gun and gravity hammer to destroy clusters of enemies.

  • I didn’t see an option to cancel matchmaking when on another screen (apologies if it was there and I didn’t catch it). For example, if I have my fire team queued up for a match and go to customize my gear, but one of my friends needs us to jump out of matchmaking, I should have an option to cancel from wherever I am. - I love that there is a ping system, but I want to be rewarded for pinging an enemy that gets killed. If I have a weaker teammate on my fireteam and they are better as a scout, they should get rewarded for helping the rest of the team by spotting enemies. - I experienced a bug where I was the leader of a team of friends and I could not change armor or anything in customization. There was a spinning wheel icon on the equip button for everything. I couldn’t reproduce the bug again. - There should be a different animation for melee with a gravity hammer. I think it should be a fast hit with the hilt of the hammer, similar to when you melee with a flag. I think this is especially needed when using the grapple gun with the gravity hammer because right now when you use these two together and you grapple a player, you take too long to do the hammer animation.
