Feedback: Don't let Graphics come before Gameplay

I wish I could elaborate on this a little more, but I only caught a few minutes of the Halo 5 gameplay and this is becoming my biggest concern with every new release of Halo.

Graphics (details, lighting) getting in the way of gameplay. As freaking cool it is to see all the lighting effects & detail in everything, it distracts from a smooth easy gameplay experience. This is most evident with the Sword - the lighting obstructs your view! (EDIT: I’ve since become aware that it’s a different weapon and the decreased visibility is intentional, but general idea still stands.) It’s awesome that the Xbox One can take advantage of these new graphic capabilities but don’t that doesn’t mean you have to push the standards just because you can.

More details means more hunting your eyes have to do for your target. Glares, glows, crazy-dark shadows, motion blur, etc make it difficult to see your target as well. I love those effects for a cinematic experience, but not for gameplay - at least for multiplayer. It might be more welcome in campaign where you want to achieve that I’m-in-a-movie effect.

This was one of the many reasons why the early Halos were so great. Unnecessary fluff doesn’t make a great gaming experience. Turn. that. mess. down.

Most evident is ADS considering its all for visuals.

The sword bloom is intentional, its supposed to be a handicap since you gain extra mobility when you grab the sword.

Maybe, but Halo 2 had great gameplay with the sword and didn’t need a ridiculous bloom. That was just one example, but there are many like it.

I’m assuming you saw an IGN video and came here? Watch the entire thing. Then play the beta. I’m sure your mind will change, if anything.

The sword there is a special one. Halo 5 has regular blue energy swords, and this one, “Prophet’s Bane”, which doubles as a power up.

the sword you saw was the current arbiters special sword “prophets bane” its even more powerful and gives you more mobility advanteges.
there will probaly be a normal blue small energy sword too in the game

Disagree. I had no problem whatsoever spotting people.

I don’t think you understand. The sword we’ve seen isn’t the Energy Sword, it’s called The Prophet’s Bane. It increases your movement speed and lunge range when you press the scope button.

Better mobility for lower visibility.

Had the same problem in H2A, when I tried to find my target I couldnt b/c the lighting made him blend in with the shadows, making it almost impossible to see, especially if you your looking all over the place quickly.

I acknowledge that. I wasn’t aware that was the intention behind that weapon. Aside from that, the visibility in general is just not as clear with motion blur, unnecessary details, glares, and glows, crazy high contrast for shadows, etc. I wouldn’t be surprised if the classic lockout on MCC gets more gameplay for this reason against the Anniversary version (although we’ll never know because the newer lockout also uses different less-desirable game engine).
