Feedback: Changing strafe direction is too fast

There are a lot of complaints about the game not feeling like hits are registering, one input method is stronger than the other, etc. I think the biggest reason people are having issues connecting their shots is because of the strafe speed, specifically how quickly players can change direction.

After playing this past weekend’s flight, I jumped back into MCC on PC to practice my aiming a bit more. During that play session I realized how insanely fast players in Infinite can move left/right back and forth to dodge shots. In all of the MCC games, if you’re moving directly left and then immediately move directly right, there’s a short slow down, stop, and acceleration when the direction changes. It’s not instant. In Infinite however, changing strafe direction feels immediate. Because of this, tracking shots is unnecessarily difficult.

I think that Infinite needs to slow down directional changes while strafing to be more in line with previous Halo titles. It’s extremely frustrating to miss most, if not all, of my shots because the enemy is just spamming left-right-left-right-left-right while locked onto me. I’m not the best player, so I know part of the problem is my own skill, but I think this is a major balancing issue. I know I’m not the only person with this issue as I’ve seen clips of other players getting angry at the same problem.

Frosty and a couple other pros were actually talking about this too and I’m surprised I’m not seeing more discussion on it. The strafe acceleration in particular is too high which makes tracking targets hard because like you said, people can change direction without anything to telegraph that they are. This leads to people just spamming the sidekick and makes gunfights more random and just in general less fun.

Yup exactly. I really think it’s critical they fix it.
Here’s an example. The Infinite clip is of a bot, but I’ve definitely seen players with similar movement. Halo 3 is much slower and controlled.

I completely agree. Tracking players has now become a whole lot harder. I’ve been managing but it’s bonkers. I really wish there was theater mode so I could go back and see how people have nailed me with the sidekick because I can only follow this movement well with the AR and BR.

I’m using a mouse btw. I’ve been using the metaphor of shooting smaller bullets because that’s how it feels. That’s not a bad thing, but it does demand more skill to get consistent hits. Being able to change direction really fast compounds the issue. There might still be something funky with aiming in general though.

With aim assist as it is on controller definitely. Don’t know how anyone can get the pistol going with the current strafe speeds if versing the AR.
If they buff the aim assist back to normal then I would say it’s fine as is.

Remember when the halo community cried in halo 4+ 5 when strafe speed was too slow…. Pepperidge farm remembers. Seriously people make up your minds the game finally has a strafe speed to keep up with other arena games and you want to listen to the pros that ruined Halo 5 with their input?

I don’t want to weigh in too much, other than to say I don’t think Halo has to be like other arena shooters. It’s Halo. It has its own identity.

If the strafe speed remains the same I will be forced to use a controller for this game. Playing with a mouse hurts my hand trying to track the strafe. I don’t have an issue with any other game I play that requires tracking (apex/overwatch/halo MCC).
