The Armor Customization in the Halo 5 Beta has been pretty disappointing which is a shame because I really loved it in Halo 3 and Halo Reach.
The problem with the current armor designs in Halo 5 is that they are too cluttered and don’t look unique in beautiful way but more in an ugly way. Why does a single armor piece need to have so many shapes? It makes them look cluttered and ugly.
If you look at the Halo 3 armor pieces you will see each piece and armor set has similar shapes making it look stream lined and beautiful. It doesn’t look cluttered at all and this is because it’s more simplistic by maintaining similar shapes to each armor piece of the same armor set.
The Recruit Armor in Halo 4 and Halo 5 is probably the best looking armor set in the entire game. Why? Because the armor pieces are do not look like cluttered shapes and the pieces fit each other.
The other reason why the armor customization in the Halo 5 beta was disappointing is the fact that there were barely any options to customze your spartan. I hope this was only the case because it was a very early beta because it would definitely be a disappointment if they would reduce the armor customization even more after Halo 4.
I’m really looking forward to Halo 5: Guardians and I can’t wait to see more of the game but please 343, step up your game with the armor customization and armor designs!
I’m pretty sure the lack of customisation in the beta was due to the fact it was an early build. It was easy to see that at least some of the armour models were placeholders. I do really hope that 343 learn from Reach’s customisation. The armour back then looked functional, and each set worked together well. There was plenty of variety too, as some armour parts had knives or shotgun shells on them.
I really think Halo 5 needs to take the saying “less is more” to heart. Halo 4 had a lot of amour options but the vast majority (IMO) were subpar at best. I hope they foucs on 10-15 sets and give each a solid design that makes sense in the Halo Universe, as some of the Halo 4 armour did not seem to fit in, for example the BioShock big daddy helmet. I’d prefer them to stick to cannon Spartan armour.

The Athlon set is promising. But they better not restict it to helmet, body, visor as suggested by Josh on Twitter. I’ll be really pissed off if customization takes such a monumental step backwards.

Not to mention they’re recycling so many old armor designs & not making many new ones. I hope they have some amazing new, original armor pieces in Halo 5
I would like if the customization went back to the Halo Reach times. Or the Halo 4 times. Or even the Halo 3 times. In all those games there was more customization options than in Halo 5.

You do realise thats not the full customisation right? you should also note that it had more customisation options then the reach beta (1920 combos vs 900 combos).
