As much backlash as the forums have provided against a DMR nerf (the same one they vociferously called for), especially in light of this week’s bulletin’s statements about the DMR, I think this is no need to fear and these comments are being taken as carrying far too much weight.
Per 343’s statement that the Light Rifle will “punish” the DMR at range, this needs to be taken to mean one thing specifically: in a static exchange at range. If the Light Rifle is able to scope and engage a single DMR target, yes, its faster kill time will defeat the DMR. But the DMR has a far larger and more forgiving bullet hitbox than the Light Rifle, so is likely to have more precision while mobile, a field where many can agree the Light Rifle does not excel.
Meanwhile, while the damage boost to the midrange BR and Carbine seem to threaten the DMR’s other relevant field, remember that the spread of the BR’s bullets and the high number of rounds that require a kill from the Carbine both decrease their chances of success, especially as range increases to favor the DMR.
The DMR will still see supremacy as a superior weapon for asymmetrical engagements, as it is now, and simply takes on two different niches among the precision weapons. If a DMR user can outdistance the shorter-range weapons, it will succeed, and it sees more general and faster use than the LR.
