Here’s an interesting review that tears Infinite down piece by piece and is a more holistic view of what is wrong with Infinite, this reminds me a lot of the thread where I said that Halo Infinite will never reach the critical acclaim that Halo 3 did because it released with basically zero content and that roughly thousands (millions?) of people didn’t get to experience a great Halo game on release.
Its a bit girthy compared to the really surface level reviews where they just talk about the story (which is subjective anyway) and briefly talk about the MP. I recommend it if you are on the fence so to speak about Infinite and have trouble gathering your own thoughts and opinions about the game. Favyn breaks down a lot of the core issues well.
Also, Favyn did say something about being a part of a dedicated feedback group called “the forerunners” So interesting stuff there.
As a longtime fan of his, this video is the ultimate distillation of Favyn’s work. I’m sure plenty of people simply don’t expect changes from 343, but I wish this community could focus on sandbox critique a lot more than it does, or well, ever has, really. Every Halo fan should watch this video if only to understand the opinions they’re disagreeing with, instead of using cheap buzzwords/cop-outs like telling people to play ranked if they don’t like the AR as a starting weapon.
I’m surprised there’s not a bigger stink about the return of bloom, that’s but one issue with the sandbox, but the return of a universally disliked Reach mechanic, in order to try to force weapons into specific roles, is really the perfect illustration of this game’s issues.
On one hand, I absolutely despised it in Reach. I just think there are so many better ways to balance guns that RNG mechanics, but all the lore-heads have to scream at the top of their lungs because “super soldiers shouldn’t have recoil”, so we get stuck with bloom.
On the other hand, bloom is a very effective mechanic at keeping mnk from dominating controllers, which is a much bigger problem than we’ve ever had because Halo is on PC at launch for the first time. And the bloom seems a lot less intense than in Reach.
That’s why I’ve been personally biting my tongue in regards to bloom, even though I’ve been exceptionally outspoken against it in the past. I do expect to land exactly where I’ve always been, but I’m keeping my mind open.
I thought Favyn review was pretty solid. I think the best point he made in regard to his whole video was
“It does not benefit you to fight people who fight for more”
Other than that, it was nice to put to words things that bothered me like Map design, and why I was getting bored of fights and find the maps so unmemorable. Long but for the passionate, well worth the watch.
His issues with the weapon sandbox are spot on. Though I would add that this game’s entire sandbox feels entirely lethality oriented with almost no utility weapons.
Absolutely a phenomenal review. At the minimum, I think he should receive credit for the sheer time put into it. However, much of his analysis was spot on imo. His discussion on the maps really captured my viewpoint as someone going straight from MCC. I also thought his weapon balancing discussion was great. I always felt that way about the AR, but his BR discussion was a bit of a revelation for me as well. Didn’t realize some of that. I think his proposed solutions made a lot of sense.
