What are your favorite villains in the Halo games so far?
I wish there was more of the Didact to be honest.
I agree that there should have been more with the Didact.
Right now however I hope that Atriox gets more involved with the main Halo story, as so far his character development, backstory and freshness is just a breath of fresh air!
Didact was cool and all but I liked the prophets, especially Truth. Dude was just such a snake hell-bent on his ridiculous goals.
How Reach portrayed the Covenant was amazing. A brutal theocratic militant conquest culture hell bent on exterminating all of humanity, with the technological edge they need to accomplish that goal? That’s probably tops for me.
The Flood is literally more threatening, and I appreciate that. But H1-3, despite their undeniable status as legendary games, never made me hate the Flood the same way H:Reach made me hate the Covenant.
As far as Promethians/Didact/Warden Eternal? None of that’s really played for me. The way they tried to make the Didact into a super villain nemesis for Chief didn’t work for me, since I don’t see Chief as a superhero character (just a super soldier- and Soldiers need Wars like Heroes need Villains, but they aren’t indistinguishable). Warden Eternal is, in H5, underdeveloped and obnoxiously repetitive. Promethians are… fine? Some people hate them as an enemy class a lot more than I do. But the fact is, I’d rather be fighting any other faction in the history of the series than more Promethians.
I liked the Prophets as a main antagonist. Especially Truth considering how deceitful and scheming he was. He really snaked out his fellow hierarchs due to how power hungry he was, while ultimately lead to his down fall, but it was a good show of evil he was.
Another contender is the Didact. I wish 343 didn’t cut his time short as an antagonist. I really liked what they had started with him in Halo 4, but then “The Next 72 Hours” storyline happened, which I was more than displeased with. One positive thing can be taken from this though, that being he isn’t necessarily killed, just contained.
Lastly there is Atriox. So far, so good. I loved his introduction, showing that he can handle 3 Spartan-IIs at once albeit, Spartans who’ve probably been out of Cryo for only about an hour or so, but still shows he isn’t a pushover. I liked his character development too, and the way he went against the Covenant to form his own faction, that is also accepting Elites who were going at war with each other. Can’t wait to see more of him and really hope he appears as a mainline game villain.

I came here to say this. I liked how he was this mysterious all powerful being that you(or at least I did) wanted to find out more about.
I have a sore spot for zombies, and flood basically being space zombies I love them too.
Prothet of truth and the Didact and maybe the Banished
The Didact. He was a great character.
atriox without question. he’s extremely intelligent, savagely intimidating, he was given a violent back story with the covenant, and how he runs his forces is the most fascinating of the halo factions; convincing others to join his ranks by offering them a purpose as warriors and fighting along side them unlike how the covenant would abandon theirs and leave them to die, then allowing his troops to alter and experiment with whatever resources they have available to create powerful weapons is awesome. The banished function like a tribe of blood thirsty glory seeking warriors rather than an organized military. heck this guy just strolls into a flood infestation to tell voridus and pavium that they’re idiots, that’s not the kind of guy you wanna mess with, which just makes cutter standing up to him so much cooler.
Gravemind
Personally, I found the Brutes for ODST completely and utterly petrifying. Once, I was running away from a Jet Pack squad, found a building and shut the door behind me. But one of them got IN. I didn’t last much longer after that. It may sound like a really bad choice, but the rain, the roars, the jazz…
I like Atriox and Truth.
The Ur-Didact could have been handled better.
The Gravemind is great but expendable because as long as there are flood pod infectors there will always be a way to create a new one.
Jul’Mdama could have been handled better in H4/Spartans-Ops and his appearance in H5: Guardians is just a bad joke just like his army made of retarted obviously.
Atriox and the didact
I rather liked Tarter Sauce, Truth, Gravemind, and Guilty Spark.
Truth, Gravemind, and Tartarus come to mind. Truth was the indirect enemy, Tartarus was the direct enemy, and the Gravemind was the true enemy. Love that dynamic. I kinda wish Tartarus stuck around for H3 to maintain that balance, but I still love how the OG trilogy played out.
I liked killing brutes in ODST. As ODST. So I’ll say brutes. XD
Prophet of Truth
As far as just the games go, I never felt like Halo had really good villains. Yeah, Guilty Spark and Truth and Tartarus are all there and good but only Truth was ever really fleshed out in any way and his character arc from 2 to 3 went through some weird changes and he nowhere near as good as he was in Halo 2. Tartarus was just “grr I follow the Prophets and do what they say and have no character development”. Guilty Spark was just “it’s been three games and you never should’ve trusted me!”. The Didact was a missed opportunity and Warden Eternal was just bad, in my opinion. If I had to pick one, I’d probably go with Truth in Halo 2.
