Favorite UNSC Designs

If you read my previous post about my favorite Covenant designs, you’ll know that my favorite designs were mostly from H2A, the Halo Wars games, and little bit of both H3/ODST and Reach. However, in regards to the UNSC, there are designs throughout the entire series that I really like.

I hope you will take time to read both of my posts and tell me which designs you like or dislike.

NOTE: “343” represents both H4 and H5G.

UNSC Infantry

Marines - H3/HW/H2A

ODST’s - H3/ODST (Why were their fingers exposed in ODST?)

Navy - H3/343 (Kind of like this.)

Spartan’s and Master Chief - H3/Reach/343

(I love both the Bungie and 343 Chief designs, but I’d like to see a 50/50 blend with Reach detailing to appease all fans.)

UNSC Vehicles

Warthog - 343 (I like the more industrial design, but I do miss the gun’s hexagonal blast-shield.)

Mongoose - Reach

Scorpion - H3/Reach (I love the Reach model, but the H3 model has gear and bags stored on it which was cool.)

Pelican - Reach/CEA/H2A

UNSC Ships

Overall, my favorite ship models include the Paris-class heavy frigate, Halberd-class destroyer, Halcyon-class light cruiser, Marathon-class heavy cruiser, Autumn-class heavy cruiser, Valiant-class super-heavy cruiser, Orion-class assault carrier, Phoenix-class colony ship, Epoch-class heavy carrier, and the Infinity-class supercarrier. As for the interior of the ships, my favorite designs are from ‘The Fall of Reach’ animated series.

Everything Reach or Halo Wars (cutscenes).

Bungie era Pelicans

Reach Mjolnir and Army and Marine BDU’s

Sparrowhawks

Halo Wars Mjolnir

Spirit of Fire

SPI

Marathon class cruisers

Strident class Frigates

I really like the armor seen in H3, HW, and Reach. But I really want a see a blend of the H3 and Reach armors.

Not a big fan of the Strident frigates to be honest. Especially because they changed the Forward Unto Dawn’s model to it.

Reachhad great designs. I think they worked more because they really looked like they belonged in a future military. Especially the Pelican, and now they use that design for all D77-TCS.

Not really. Before Halo 2 Anniversary, sure, but that was because it was the most visually advanced version of the D77 airframe that was available. Once H2A and the MCC were made a reality, the standard visual basis for the D77 was changed to that particular model.

Actually you’re r both right and wrong. Yes, they use a new model for the Pelican in H2A, but only for the cutscenes and it’s just an extremely well detailed version of the Reach model. However, in-game, they use the Reach model with a new gun and a different paint job. You’ll see the same is true for the Phantom. New fancy models for the cutscenes, but the Reach models in-game. The Scorpion is another great example too!

Again, sorry about that. Hahaha! xD

I’ll just say for unsc infantry, reach takes the cake by far imo. You just can’t beat it. Honestly reach or 3 for pretty much everything lol.

I actually completely agree with you, however. The entire original trilogy, ODST, and Reach all take place in 2552. I love the Reach UNSC infantry designs, but they seem a little dated compared to the super-futuristic designs of prior titles. So even though I like the realistic look, they feel somewhat out of place. Especially in comparison to H3 or H2A.

I like the ODST armor from H3 / H3 ODST, especially the helmet and Visor mechanics I think looked awesome.

Those are my favorite designs too, but I wish the fingers weren’t exposed in ODST. I never understood that considering that the suit are supposed to vacuum sealed.

I also like the ODST’s from Reach. I thought that they were extremely well detailed.

I love the ODST design in H2A, H3, and H3 ODST. The Spartan design in H5 and Reach, Marines in H4 and Reach

I am particularly fond of Halo CE, Halo 2, some things in 3, Halo Wars 2 and like, a couple halo 4 and 5 things.

Halo 2 Anniversary/Wars 2 and Halo 3 marines.
Halo 2 Anniversary Pelican
Basically everything in Halo CE (original not anniversary), that isn’t a marine.
The Halo Wars 2 Red Spartan on the menu screen’s assault rifle is also nice
The Stalwart, and Strident frigates are also nice.
The ORIGNIAL Pillar of Autumn that doesn’t have a stupid hole in it’s precious shieldless armor with poor naval gun and sentry gun placements.
Original Halo 2 Battle Rifle.
Original beautiful Halo CE Shotgun that isn’t overly designed like nearly every model after it, save maybe the Halo 2 model.
Venator armor (should be blatantly obvious with my choice of picture)
And one of the only things from reach i like is the Operator helmet, everything else is garbage, over designed, and about as bad as some of the stuff in halo 4 and 5.
The halo 3 spartan laser is also nice and sleek. It’s elegant.
the mantis is also nice, so is the condor, the wasp and halo 5 DMR too.
the Infinity-Class is also neat, so is the halo 4/5 warthog that is also everywhere now.

the anlace, if modeled correctly could hit the list too.

Couldn’t agree with you more in regards to the ODST and Spartan designs in both H3ODST and Reach, respectively. But I also like the detailing of the ODST’s in Reach. As for the the H4 Marines… They are quite literally my least favorite 343 design so far.

I rather like the H3, HW, and H2A Marines, but I’m also very fond of the designs in Reach. I just wish that they had helmets similar to the H3 model. I only play CE on classic mode with the modern soundtrack because I don’t like how bright CEA is and I prefer the classic Covenant. The Stalwart frigate is okay, but I prefer both the Charon and Paris class frigates and I don’t like the Strident class at all. The original Autumn is fine, but I genuinely prefer the model seen in Reach and H2A. The “holes” are actually Archer missile silos and the reason that it has so many sentry’s is because it was modified for “Operation Red Flag.” I also love the original BR! Especially in both the H2A campaign and especially multiplayer. I like the CE shotty, but I prefer the models from both Reach and H2A multiplayer. Really…? The Reach Spartans are honestly my personal favorites. Especially Noble Team. They managed to be both realistic and futuristic. I prefer both the Reach Spartan Laser and the H4 DMR. The Mantis is pretty epic too! As for the Infinity, I’m not fond at all. I prefer the Spirit of Fire. I like both the Reach and H4/H5 Warthogs.

yea, I don’t really like reach troopers at all. the helmets should the actual good helmets of halo 2 and 3.

> I only play CE on classic mode with the modern soundtrack because I don’t like how bright CEA is and I prefer the classic Covenant.

Much agreeded. OG CE covenant where always the best.

> The Stalwart frigate is okay, but I prefer both the Charon and Paris class frigates and I don’t like the Strident class at all.

I perfer the stalwart over the charon and paris, the Strident is an acquired taste, I love it.

When I mean holes, I mean the giant hole where 2 m66 sentry guns are sandwiched, not archer pods. it’s more a nitpick since armor is important to UNSC ships and bungie redesigned it to have a several hundred meter large hole into the sides of the ship with 2 poorly placed guns that will have horrible fields of fire because it looks cool. it’s design clashing with established lore of armor being important to UNSC ships, then again halo having messy lore isn’t new at all.

> I also love the original BR! Especially in both the H2A campaign and especially multiplayer. I like the CE shotty, but I prefer the models from both Reach and H2A multiplayer.

I think the CE shotgun is the best

> Really…? The Reach Spartans are honestly my personal favorites.

Yeah, I’ve made it clear i hate reach alot, its on my low on my list of halos. Reach Spartans are too over designed for my taste, they should have looked more like Halo CE Mk5 Armor.

> Especially Noble Team. They managed to be both realistic and futuristic. I prefer both the Reach Spartan Laser and the H4 DMR.

I was never a fan of Noble team, only Jorge and Jun where cool, I couldn’t care less for the rest. halo 4 DMR is too green for me, can’t say I agree with the spartan laser, I like nice, clean designs. (says me, the guy who’s favorite armor is Venator LOL)

> Mantis is pretty epic too! As for the Infinity, I’m not fond at all. I prefer the Spirit of Fire. I like both the Reach and H4/H5 Warthogs.

Outside of the crew the infinity is cool, I agree with the reach warthog, that one was always nice, however I prefer the halo 2 gauss cannon design. If we bring variations into it.

I rather liked the Reach/CEA Marines myself. The only complaint that I had in regard to them is that they look a little too heavy. They’re Marines. They’re meant move fast and hit hard, which means that they shouldn’t be carrying so much. And yes, I know that technically the UNSC Army is seen throughout the majority of the Reach campaign, but that is not true in CEA. I would’ve liked them to wear the normal Reach armor but with orange lenses, occasionally rolled up sleeves with gloves or fingerless gloves, both knee and elbow pads, the CEA collar, and the GUNGNIR shoulders without the bar-like piece at the bottom. Save the full body protection for the ODST’s. The Marines need to be light on their feet.

Ah! Now I know exactly what “holes” you are referring to. Those are actually reverse-thrusters. As to why the guns are placed there, once again, that has to deal with “Operation RED FLAG.” The ship was retrofitted to with multiple extra sentry’s and a modified MAC cannon that fires a three-round burst. They were planning to send the ship into direct conflict with a Covenant cruiser and have all the Spartan-II’s available board the vessel and kidnap a Prophet just to force a truce. So they definitely needed the modifications and firepower. Normal Halcyon cruisers don’t have that many sentry’s.

I really loved all of Noble team myself and I personally loved the Reach armor sets too. I find their realistic/futuristic designs quite appealing. I don’t think they are over-designed at all, whereas I think that all the armor sets in H4 and H5G are just ugly… Reach was honestly perfect in my opinion and some good 343 designs are actually based on Reach concept art.

Really? I never really liked the classic Gauss canon because it reminds me of the canons in front of the National Guard building in my town. I honestly prefer the Reach-era and H5G Gauss cannons over the original.
