What are your favorite Marine quotes in Halo Combat Evolved Anniversary? And, what is the best Sergeant Johnson’s speech in both Halo Combat Evolved Anniversary and Halo 2 Anniversary?
Way too many golden quotes to pick a favorite from CE… by my favorite Johnson speech out of the two games? Easy:
“Usually the good Lord works in mysterious ways. But not today! This here is sixty-six tons of straight up, H-E-spewing dee-vine intervention! If God is love, then you can call me Cupid!”
From CE there a lot of funny quotes, but one I enjoy is from idle Marine chatter asking the Chief sarcastically “Do I owe you money?”.
As for a Johnson speech, mine probably has to be the starting speech Johnson gives for Outskirts’ opening cutscene. As a fresh reminder, I quote “Dear humanity, we regret being alien b*stards, we regret coming to Earth, and we most definitely regret that the Corps just blow up our raggedy-*ss-fleet!”
If one Marine knows how to boost soldier morale, it’s Johnson. If H3 was included my favorite Johnson line would be in Sierra 117 when the Arbiter says “We must go the Brutes have our scent.” To which Johnson replies “Then they must love the smell of Bvlgari. Yeah I’m doing a little product placement. I gotta get paid too!” Hands down best line imo as it’s just really funny.
Dear humanity speech from Johnson kicks -Yoink-. I also love the “thanks for the tank, he never gets me anything” “oh i know what the ladies like”.
lets face it Johnson wins for quotes. Every time.
But for CE the win goes to whichever marine says “how do we get up there, the core issued me a rifle not wings” sick line from one of me favourite missions t&r.

I honestly had no idea there were variants to the Legendary speech! I only knew of “they must love the smell of bad-yoink-”. So glad Bungie threw in a couple more goofy ones. I hope 343 brings back a little goofiness in Infinite. H4 and H5 feel so serious sometimes and there’s only a moment or two of fun. Buck’s line of “what, we’re counting now?” is maybe the only genuinely fun line I can think of, and it’s one of my favorites from all of Guardians.
I think the MCU has proven that you can still tell a very serious story while including some fun along the way.
