Favorite Halo Book?

Hey, all. I’m looking to read some of the Halo novels while I wait for MCC PC. What are some of your favorite entries in the series? Where do you think I should start?

If you have played CE, starting with “The Flood” is a good option. It’s basically a novel adaptation of the game. “The Fall of Reach” is like a prequel to CE and is arguably the best book to start with.

It’s hard for me to pick a favorite, but if you are a fan of more than one story for a set of characters, I recommend the Kilo Five Trilogy. Many people like the trilogy and many don’t, both for their own reasons. I personally am a big fan.

The fall of reach. I loved that book, only one I’ve read. Not the only one I have. Going to get the audio books and listen to them at work in the slow season(winter). Worth it to know the lore, makes the games more entertaining and enjoyable.

(edit) I just finished Cryptum, and that was pretty good, I’ve learned a lot and connected a lot of dots in the halo universe in my mind. I’m going to listen to the rest of the forerunner saga before I move on (back) to the other books, like Onyx.

Halo Fall Of Reach I mean its just the best and most of the community agrees and Contact Harvest

Fall of Reach

I haven’t read the newer books but I remember enjoying first strike a lot.

In my opinion, halo the fall of reach, is my favorite book by far. It is a good story of the battles leading up to halo combat evolved.

Depends on how familiar you are with the lore:

If you are, I’d start with the Kilo-5 trilogy or the forerunner saga. These are a good way to learn about the more obscure parts of the Halo lore (though be warned, I personally found the Forerunner Saga to be a bit of a meh read).

If you are not familiar, Fall of Reach gives a lot of details about the origins of the Spartan IIs (that’s Chief if you don’t know) and is a great way of learning about Chief prior to playing through the MCC. After that I’d read First Strike, The Flood and possibly Silent Storm after that.

Once you’re done with that, feel free to PM me if you wan’t some more suggestions.

I would definately read “The Flood”

You can also consider reading them as they were released. Here is a list of all the books. It appears that they are listed in order of release.

Why not check out the comics as well?

First Strike, definitely.

Of all the ones I have read, the ones below are my favorite:

  • Halo: First Strike (excellent story that explains the events directly after the first game) - Halo: Ghosts of Onyx (great introduction to Spartan-III’s and Spartan Kurt’s pure epicness) - Halo: Hunters in the Dark (excellent story that takes place on the Ark after Halo 3 and explores the two elites from Halo 3’s coop mode, N’tho 'Straom and Usze 'Taham) - Halo: Broken Circle (details the war between the Prophets and Elites before the Covenant. Amazing story) - Halo: The Cole Protocol (Spartan Gray team. Enough said. Also the Arbiter, Thel 'Vadam, is given a backstory) - Halo: Envoy (MORE SPARTAN GRAY TEAM. Gray team might be my favorite Spartan-II group of them all) - Halo: Silent Storm (explores Spartan Blue Team’s earlier days of the beginning of the Covenant War as well as Insurrectionist fights)

The correct answer is Fall of Reach, OP. It’s a rite of passage for getting into the extended universe. You’ll be hooked.

Mine was “The Flood”

Fall of Reach

Contact Harvest and Evolutions were my first and they still remain my favorites.

Halo New Blood

Cole Protocol was amazing. It follows covert Spartan II’s that have “unique” assignments. Truly well written and does not require much expanded halo knowledge.
