What is your favorite Halo and why?
Mine’s Halo 3 because of the magical charm it has, also because the weapons are balanced, and there’s no unfairness in the campaign.
Usually when this topic comes up I say Halo 3 because it introduced me to it all but lately I have been saying Halo 3 ODST because of the atmosphere the music creates.
There is a good chance my answer will change when Halo: Infinite is released, but so far my overall favourite is Halo 4. It has so many great moments in it that are often dismissed due to negativity.
I will say Halo Reach. I like that the game shows the early conflict between the Humans and the Covenant. And, I also like how the story in Halo Reach leads directly to Halo Combat Evolved especially the final level where Noble Six meets Captain Keyes.
I think I have 4 different favorites depending on the different aspects of the games I focus on.
- I would have to say that Halo 2A is my favorite for its graphics. I love the look of the elites and their more sleek noble appearance, the marines because they still have the rugged less heavily advanced human look (not so much the ODST, as the Halo 3 and reach designs will always be my favorite, but I still think they look cool in H2A just not quite as much) and the overall crispness of the visuals. - As far as the story goes, I think my favorite would be Halo reach, because it got me attached to the characters, it felt like the fall of reach carried a lot of weight and depth, and because I wasn’t expecting the ending for noble team and the tie to CE. Noble team getting killed off (minus jun) made me and all my friends who played it sad that they didn’t make it, but the story pulled off the ending very well in my opinion and I’m happy with how they did it. - My favorite halo for “gameplay atmosphere” (for lack of a better term) would have to be Halo 3: ODST. I think this is because the player is, for the first time in the series, put into the shoes of a character other than a spartan or the arbiter, making the player feel more vulnerable throughout each mission, like the danger is amplified and I have to be more careful and like the character doesn’t have “plot armor”. This means the outcome of each battle isn’t assured victory, allowing for each mission to feel more intense. This choice would have to be in part because in my opinion most video games and movies don’t allow for the main character to fail, or have anything other than a happy ending, resulting in a lot of predictability. So even though the main character survives and the ending for these characters is a pretty happy one, the main character of the game being an odst allows for much less plot predictability than you get when you play as a spartan. - Finally, I think my favorite Halo, with every aspect of the game in mind, would be Halo: Reach. The graphics are very clean and pretty much all of the designs are very cool, the story is In my opinion awesome, the gameplay atmosphere is great as it carries a lot of weight as to whats going on and the scale of the events taking place. Forge mode was very well done, I remember sinking entire days into playing forge with friends and building huge bases then using them to fight each other. Multiplayer had a lot of fun modes and a great variety of maps to play on. Firefight was really fun, and I loved the customizability of the enemies you would face, the loadouts you could use, and the ability to fight on the side of the covenant against other players. And last but not least the player armory choices were awesome although it was a little hard to progress and get each armor piece if you didn’t play tons of multiplayer matches (at least in my experience).
my favorite Halo game is the Halo series
H2/H2A for me. It had so many memorable moments, like giving the Covenant back their bomb, destroying your first scarab, killing a prophet, the way Chief gets sent to High Charity. It also introduced us to Arbiter and the beginning of that alliance.
I really really like the Halo 4 campaign. It starts faster than Halo 3, is tighter wound and more streamlined than Halo 2, and fleshes out a new world better than Halo: CE did (especially with the inclusion of the Halo 4 terminals).
Halo 3 is my favorite game overall - I think the just OK multiplayer and just not good Spartan Ops of Halo 4 bring it down, whereas Halo 3’s multiplayer shines.
Tough. There are things from each one that I like a lot. If I had to choose one, it would be Halo 3. The story was good and it’s multi was awesome. Lots of good memories with that game also.
I can easily tell you my what my favourite campaign and multiplayer is (ODST and Halo 2 respectively), but overall game? That’s hard.
Honestly I’d have to say either Reach or Halo 3, because they are the most average across the board. There is nothing in either game which I particularly hate, but they imo aren’t really stand out games either. Therefore overall they are the best?
It’s some flawed logic but that’s my answer.
Halo 3 and Reach are very, very close for me. I think they both benefitted from a good variety of game modes and the strongest communities in the history of the franchise.
I think I’d go with the Halo 3 campaign over Reach’s (not an easy call, but I think I can stand by it), but call Halo: Reach the better overall game in terms of MP and replayability. I know that’ll be a bit of a contraversial call, since Reach marked the beginning of the end of the classic gameplay formula for Halo, but I feel that most of the additions in Reach weren’t too bad by themselves (Armor Lock nonwithstanding). Reach’s Firefight really clinches this for me- I spent a lot of time in that mode, and there’s no analogue for it in Halo 3.
Best memories, Halo 2.
Best atmosphere: ODST
Most online time spent: Halo Reach
Best immersive story: Halo 2
For campaign it’s CE, just because I like to walk for hours, get lost and do nothing, admiring both the classic and remastered landscapes. Not to mention, the first time I played it I was always wandering what was the ring, why is it abandoned, what were the covenant, etc. And then you get to the introduction of the flood… Oh boy…
Each time I play the art and the design immerse me in this dark alien world like no other game has. Also even today it blows my mind how well the gameplay has aged. IDK. My second place would be 3 because of being able to playing with 4 friends, taking down scarabs, having a scorpion or wraith full of marines, odsts and elites for each, collecting skulls and all the variety of stuff you could do that none game has matched.
For multiplayer, H2. I always played in a friend’s house when I was younger, and even when I understood how it worked it appealed to me the most. It depends more on strategy and raw logic instead of reflexes and skill like CE with 3 being more in the middle. Speaking of, the new forge allows for sooo much different stuff that you can create and play, yet it’s the easiest. My favorite forge to this day. I still liked reach and 4 for how massive, crazy and fun they were though
I got to say I like multiple aspects of each game, I can’t say just one is the absolute best. The concept of each game is great. The graphics of halo 4 are the best to me, but I have only played up to 4 so far. Halo 1 was the only one that took me more than 3 days to beat in normal difficulty, so I put that one higher on my list. I really love how over powered it was to dual-wield some needlers in halo 2, and playing as the covenant was amazing. The introduction of the spiker in halo 3 was glorious, the spiker is my favorite gun outside the assault rifle and the gravity hammer. The idea that ODST was kinda like a crime drama made it appealing to my mystery side. I was also so drawn in to the story of reach, despite knowing that reach was going to fall. I was so upset when Noble team started to die and I legit try to do the lone wolf mission over and over in hopes that I can last long enough for reinforcements to arrive or to take out the entirety of the covenant that seems single mindedly interested in the death of ONE Spartan(even though I know it won’t happen)
it’s a great series and if/when I decide to get Xbox Live Gold then I will experience the other side of it. I’m glad that both Bungie and 343 Industies didn’t just devote the majority of their time on just the online aspect or just the campaign aspect.
For me it’s a tie between Halo: Combat Evolved and Halo 3. CE was one of the first games I played when I was around 5 and would literally play it over and over and would love watching my older brother play slayer in blood gulch with his friends. Halo 3 was the first Halo I got into the multiplayer with and would spend many hours in forge making maps with my friends in middle school, plus it was an excellent ending to a wonderful trilogy.

I’m on PC so i’ve only played Halo CE, 2, reach, and halo wars, so far i like halo reach and 2 the most
I have always loved Halo Reach, I enjoyed Halo 5 Multiplayer but it wasn’t the same as Reach.
Dude, I’ve answered the question so many times, but I’l do my best to answer it again:
Halo 3 is my favorite Halo game of all time. The story was incredible. It finished the fight in the most satisfying way. During the campaign you fought the Covenant and the Flood, but more than that, you got to fight WITH the Flood, even for a few minutes.
Humanity was utterly and completely on the back foot, buy without a strong friendship forged within the crucible of combat, humanity and the Sangheili would likely never have considered themselves allies. I recognize that much of this hangs in the balance thanks to Cortana, but it can’t be ignored that humanity and the Sangheili have more in common than they have that drives them apart.

Halo belongs only on the Xbox and you can’t tell me otherwise, anyway, just wait, Halo 3 is a hidden treasure these days.
Halo 2.
I mean, I love(d) CE. It has a lot of nostalgia and memories that no other game gave me, or that can ever be recreated by another game. But H2 took that to another level. I absolutely LOVE how it takes a huge gamble by showing us the Covenant side of the story. Arbiter is a great character and seeing him go through Chief’s experience of CE and leading to the downfall of the Covenant was such a great story. H3 is my biggest let down in the series because it mostly ignored that part of the story by cutting out Arby’s perspective. I even like H2’s cliffhanger because it promised more to come. It is the Halo that got me into the Bungie community (rewarded with a ticket to the H3 Beta).
And then there is the multiplayer. Which is utterly spectacular. Again: something that can never be recreated. It was THE game to play at the time and online gaming was still a big community thing back then. People using their mics, strategizing BTB games, meeting new people from all over the planet. F—ing epic. Map selection? The best in the series.
The other games?
CE: Love it!
H3: Like it. Still nice memories, but a let down storywise and its multi was a bit too much MLG for me.
ODST: Love it, campaign actually shows the invasion of Earth that should’ve been in H3.
Reach: Number 3 in my books!
H4: Forgettable.
H5: Actually a bit better than I first thought.
Wars: Love it!
Wars 2: Like it.
